Obras Sociales del Hermano Pedro
Written by: Alexander Wilson, Demmi Douma & Jenna Badger
During the 2012-2013 school year, the 9th grade class participated in year long community service, and our group made up of Jerry, Fernando, Demmi, Jenna and Alexander worked with the senior citizens at Hospital Hermano Pedro. Las Obras del Hno. Pedro is a non-governmental hospital, that maintains itself with donations and volunteering from Guatemala and other countries. We documented the seniors life stories and spent hundreds of hours with them.
Volunteering at Obras Sociales El Hermano Pedro in 9th grade was an incredible experience to be able to share with the elder and learn about their lives. Learning about the elders was shocking because they had some tragic stories but it is admirable that they still are happy even though they have gone through many challenges. Elders are always willing advice you  and tell  their experiences. I loved the experience of being able to get to know them and share with them.
We enjoyed to exchange experiences and thoughts with other people. In order to know them and make them have a good time. The idea of writing biographies was because there are many interesting people in the most inopportune place, and the hospital is one of this places. People who have been left aside by their family feel they are not important for the world but, guess what? They are important, from each of them we can get a little piece of knowledge. They are wise persons that need love and care. So, we decided to share their stories and have a good time with them.
