Paph. deperle (delanatii x primulinum)

One of the orchids I got at Pacific Orchid Expo. This one's from Paph Paradise for $35. Got it in bud and now the second flower is opening. The other growth is also growing a new leaf. Not fragrant but very cute. Forgot to take a picture of when I got it. Oops.

↳ STARTER INCOMING FOR ◦ @deperle ; YONGJUN ft. KAEUN !!

          an open notebook on the table in front of her ; overly fancy pen in her left hand as the tip glides over the paper -- she doesn’t look at it, keeps her gazed fixed on something  -- SOMEONE, taking notes of what her eyes see, little things. eyes form crescents when he laughs, pearly white teeth, seems to be liked by the people surrounding him. it’s NOT as if she was a stalker, she has simply followed him all day for ... research. research about his person. it has been a week since she first met him, a case that the PD & NIS worked on together, & you know how it is. in a state of emergency & complete helplessness, they call MISS KAYA. kaya, the girl who knows everything. she knows everyone, but no one knows more than that name & her face. secrecy at its finest. when he, officer jeon, was introduced to her she felt this warm shock throughout her entire body, felt a sense of attraction that made her completely forget how to form words. 

so here they are now. 

she followed him from work to his home, to the grocery store, up until he got into this little bar with some friends. she chimed in shortly after him ; taking a seat somewhere in the back. OBSERVING. creepy? only if you get caught! 

he doesn’t drink much at once, sips every now & then inbetween talking. noted down. was he social? at this moment it seemed like it, she couldn’t be entirely sure, so it’s put in brackets, a question mark behind it. one of the waitresses eventually comes up to kaeun -- the girl in the back without a drink better buy a drink or leave. “ move out of the way please, lady. i’m doing something here. ” the waitress glances at the notebook -- which kaeun promptly shuts close. “ i’m fine, thank you. what? yeah, yeah sure. whisky on the rocks. oh my god, lady -- that’s all! ”, kaeun speaks a little too loudly, probably pulling the attention of quite a few people towards her, to her defence, though, kaeun had gotten seriously annoyed. who knows how many antics of officer jeon she had missed & thus couldn’t write down. 

& of course her obnoxiously loud voice pulled HIS attention to her, too. for a short moment their eyes meet, but kaeun’s quick to look away, the notebook opening again so she can scribble a quick ‘ very strong gaze ’ into it, before closing it. a second later she had taken the courage to look back at him, & oh my! he’s still looking. shoot a smile! & so she does, showing off her brightest, most inviting smile.

          an injury wouldn’t have been too bad, an injury would’ve been something she would be able to deal with ; but as the room kept spinning around & around due to lack of hydration & possibly her habit of making the night her day soojin felt helpless. stuck in one place, unsure who she was – what she was, where to go ; how to even walk. it felt as if every basic human function had slipped her mind, breathing came so naturally on normal days, but right now the young girl had to concentrate, had to remember how to even breathe. she’s gasping for air multiple times, feels as if she’s suffocating ; feels as if she has to throw up. everything happens so quickly, one minute she felt fine, & the next it felt as if she was dying, stumbling & eventually slumping down to the ground. or well – she would have. if it weren’t for iris rushing to her side, his arms holding her, guiding her gently forwards until she can be laid on her own bed. 

it’s okay. is it? would it be fine? or would soojin actually fall asleep to never wake up again? her mouth is dry, & even if she tried there’s not be a sound, at least she thinks that. “ i’m fine .. ” a barely audible mumble escaping from in-between pink lips ; a lie she knew how to tell way too well. “ i’m just – just thirsty. ”

          “ dude. ”, the first words leaving juju’s mouth, a gaze that means as much as ‘ are you serious right now? ’ accompanying it for the EXTRA effect. sure, he may be right seeing as juju was anything but sober – beer, vodka, weed. everything had found its way into her system, the way she was barely able to walk in a straight line gave it away even without her opening her mouth to speak in a language clearly no one understood, with stupid laughter in-between each of the words. “ it’s a great idea. oh shit, look – either we enter the club down the street, or we go home because the world’s starting to be A LOT less funny, i need another beer, hwannie pop. ” gross. even nicknames were clearly not out of question anymore, her slender fingers first wrap around his arm, only to then full-on hold onto him to not DROP DOWN FACE FIRST. a laugh, to him out of nowhere, but juju knows that she’s being extremely funny in her own mind. “ luckily i’m not one of those bitches that go party in their little high heels & short dresses. ” jeans & nikes, the attire usually worn when out; a blessing in times like this. “ oh god, die typen sehen alle wieder scheiße aus, ich brauch’ echt noch n’ bier. ” wrong language, whoops! it doesn’t matter as the mumble was directed at herself anyway. 

     “ you better decide, the club’s coming closer. follow my good idea, or the other good idea? come up with your own, if you gotta. as long as alcohol’s in i’m in, you know? ”

“I warned you, but you don’t listen! I even told you about how I could see my breath this morning but you didn’t wrap up warm enough, ah! It’s like talking to a brick wall with you sometimes!” A sigh of exasperation proves only to be somewhat believable — though she rambles on with no real point (other than, once again, she’s right), her words lack any real harshness. Instead, they are soft and sing-song like; a hint of laughter edging into her tone as she notes his rather nonchalant note in comparison to his demeanour. 

It was becoming that time of year and, especially at this time of night, even with a thick padded coat it was easy for the cold to slip in, icy fingers caressing every inch of bare skin. Silently, she offers him her scarf — it would do no harm to her and she was beginning to pity him. After all, the only reason they were out at such a time was because of her. Schedules were to skyrocket now they’d returned so the only moment to spare would be when the streets were basked in moonlight and not a soul would be in sight. 

Now, she was not much of a night owl; her preference lay in early mornings, but that would be a bit of a stretch in terms of meeting old friends — including Hwan. Still, tonight she just could not fall asleep and she was in luck to be able to reconnect with him on such short notice. Old habits die hard and her bossy nature (which was only on display to those she finds comfort in) begins to creep out once more.“C’mon, lets hurry. I’ll give you the album when we get to the park and not a moment later!”

            Yoobum ✗ Jooyi       How much she hated to only be able to stand there, running an imagination of simply high-kicking him to get him off and a few other punch but whenever she started at this point, soon enough the fast forward towards the police sirens, the backseat, the disappointed face of her father followed up and she had to drown the idea again, missing half of what that drunkard had been saying but whatever it was, he apparently had thought of her silence as an agreeing sign. Before she had even noticed his moving, she felt his hand placed on her ass, pushing her school skirt up just a bit too much to her liking and although she yelled out and tried to move his hand away, there was no helping it. Even calling for help... Her father had always told her that although people were sensitive to the matter of sexual harassment in this country, she should never call out to drank people in a situation like this or it might only further escalate.       And not only was the guy molesting her drunk but also were there quite a few bars around and right this moment she hated that she had gone along to this class meeting in a karaoke bar, it wasn't even like she had sang a single song or enjoyed it much but peer pressure... "Stop it," she warned a last time and already wanted to pass the huge guy by who had stopped her earlier but he only blocked her way again, making it just the harder for her to restrain her slowly upbubbling anger.

A Good Provider is One Who Leaves Book Review

I read the book A Good Provider is One Who Leaves: One Family and Migration in the 21st Century by Jason DePerle, and it was informative and moving. I read this book because my wife gave it to me for Christmas since we'll be working with Afghan migrants soon. It centers around a Philippine family clan and how many of them migrated to other countries with good and bad results. It highlights several individuals within this clan and then addresses the issue of migration overall.

The main character works in Abu Dhabi as a nurse for many years and eventually transfers to Galveston, Texas. She struggles with finances, English, parenting, marriage, family, co-workers, and more, but she prevails!

About halfway through the book, the issues of migration and its history is outlined.  The book provides revealing insights and studies on the topic. It’s fascinating and disturbing how difficult migration is for those so desperate for help.  A pointed quote from Swiss novelist Max Frisch shared in the book sums up the immigration frustration for many. “We wanted workers…but we got people instead.”  It’s a highly recommended read!

          the question hits seemingly out of nowhere, kaeun spinning around on her heels to take a good look at yoobum, who currently was pointing his index finger to the k5 left on the glass table in the middle of her living room. at first she displays a look of confusion, gaze following his finger to meet the small gun’s figure laying around openly. her lips pressed together, eyes momentarily closing in a moment of complete hatred towards herself. it takes a moment or two until she regains her posture, lips curling up into a slight smile as her head gives slow nods. 

     ❛ yes and no. yes, it’s legal for me. no, it’s not legal for someone WITHOUT a permit. ❜ that’s putting it easy, anyone could get a gun permit from the police office, but who would let their gun lay around openly? at least she has proof, a permit somewhere in her papers that clearly states she is allowed to possess weapons ranging from rifles, over pistols to knives. however, her case is a special one and the permit not filled out on her full name, taking aside that it states she works alongside the NIS – something she’d not show to anyone, not if she can wiggle herself out of it, at least. 

          ❛ i’m not gonna shoot you or anything, it’s just laying here because i was cleaning it, and then you came – didn’t have the time to safely put it away. but yes, it’s perfectly legal, i’ve got my permit. ❜ cue a lighthearted laugh.

!! – ✧ ; so, sana hasn’t been around for long at all, so i first thought it would be weird to do this, but seeing as i’ve been around in krp for seemingly forever, & do follow a decent amount of people i figured why not simply do this to appreciate those i follow &/ or have grown fond of over the years ( or months / weeks ) nonetheless !!

@bvsans ; NOT EVEN ACTIVE ON TUMBLR AT THE MOMENT BUT !! not mentioning you would be wrong, & i’d not appreciate that concept. we very quickly grew close when we met & at this point you’re most likely my favorite person to talk to, we can have very serious & deep conversations or just plain stupid ones that don’t make any sense which just makes it soo so so great to talk to you. i really really love you & i do hope that we’ll stay close for a hella long time & eventually do get the chance to go to a concert or festival together ( wherever clueso is we going fdhjgdkf ). may 2k18 be less ugly than 2k17 and our stupid 22:22 wishes become reality. 

@implan ; quite literally always dead & barely even an active member of krp anymore ( NO OFFENSE ) but very, very important to me, so that not mentioning you would just kind of feel wrong ?? we’ve known each other for .. two or three ?? years now, and despite having lost contact entirely once, and sometimes not talking for weeks due to us simply not feeling life, or being incredibly lazy, i’d like to believe that whenever we do talk it’s a lot of fun. whether that’d be skyping 12 hours straight for no reason, or to clean together because it gives us #motivation. i love a lot & i hope that we’ll still be as close as we are now years ahead. may 2018 be a good one, am i right ? :^) 

@deperle ; we haven’t known each other for very long, but we immediately did get along well, and since have spoken nearly every day. you are as slow as me when it comes to replying to shit so i know i can just feel comfortable replying to you at my own speed without having to worry about anything. you are very very fun & easy to talk to, & i always do enjoy rambling about random things. whether that’d be rambling about our muses, our ships, or just life in general, it’s always fun !! i said it before & i’ll say it again, moon is very precious !!
