What are web components, and why are they important in modern web development?
Web components are a set of web platform APIs that allow you to create custom, reusable HTML elements with their own functionality and styling. They consist of four main features: Custom Elements, Shadow DOM, HTML Templates, and HTML Imports (though HTML Imports are being deprecated in favor of ES6 modules). Web components are important in modern web development for several reasons including: 1. Web components promote reusability and modular code. 2. They isolate styles and scripts with Shadow DOM, preventing conflicts. 3. Web components work across different frameworks, enhancing interoperability. 4. They streamline development, reducing code duplication. 5. Embracing web components future-proofs your codebase. 6. The ecosystem around web components encourages collaboration and innovation Want to understand more about web components, how they can help you develop your website/web app, and which web components to use and how for your project, get in touch with web development experts to know more.

NOTE: THE ABOVE IMAGE IS AN EDIT BY ME, NOT A SCREENSHOT OF THE SCENE
Crisis on Infinite Mirths - PPG Creator, Craig McCracken asked development team if the original Bubbles could beat up the "New One"
At the recent San Diego Comic Con showing of the new Jellystone special, one of the writers spoke to fans. Saying that they often communicated with the original creators of the series they used for the crossover, including Powerpuff Girl Creator, Craig McCracken.
On stage he said that in a note given to them by Craig, "Can you please have the original Bubbles beating up the new Bubbles somewhere?" To which they cheerfully agreed. In a chaotic fight scene, in the background they hid a part where 1998 Bubbles whacks 2016 Bubbles on the head.
Since the CN Latin America commercial, this is the 2nd time the 2016 series has been depicted in a negative light by official CN content. This time specifically requested by the series creator himself. It's understandable, a large part of why 2016 was the way it was, was because Cartoon Network didn't want to wait for Craig's contract with Disney over Wander Over Yonder to end. Going ahead without him. Craig didn't make 2016, and it's reasonable to believe that he may harbor some sour feelings for how CN handled his brainchild.
Unfortunately no clip of the scene is available online at the moment, as the only clips we have right now come from the Comic Con showing. We will likely have to wait until Jellystone: Crisis on Infinite Mirths releases on tv and streaming services to get a clip of the scene.
Reminder, I am not a news source, but did my best to report on this and source what I could

The Kenya Wildlife Service celebrated the successful transfer of 21 eastern black rhinos to establish a new viable breeding population for the species that was on the brink of extinction decades ago.
In an 18-day exercise executed by highly trained capture and veterinary experts, the Loisaba Conservancy received the 21 rhinos from three different locations, becoming the 17th sanctuary in Kenya where the mammoth animals can roam and intermingle.
“It’s incredibly exciting to be part of the resettlement of rhinos to a landscape where they’ve been absent for 50 years,” said Tom Silvester, CEO of Loisaba Conservancy.
Kenya had 20,000 black rhinos in the 1970s before poachers decimated them for their horns. By the time the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) was established in 1989, rhino numbers had declined to below 400.
Since then, Kenya’s eastern black rhinos have made a remarkable comeback and today there are an estimated 1,004 individuals.
Kenya is a stronghold of the eastern sub species of black rhino, hosting approximately 80 percent of the entire world’s surviving population.
“Surpassing the milestone of 1,000 rhinos within four decades is a significant accomplishment,” said Munira Bashir, Director of The Nature Conservancy in Kenya.
The reintroduction this month of these 21 animals this month is a great milestone in Kenya’s rhino recovery action plan, and was made possible by support from The Nature Conservancy, San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, other partners—and the three reserves from where the 21 rhinos originated, Nairobi National Park, Ol Pejeta Conservancy and Lewa Conservancy.
“In the recent past, one of the main causes of mortality of rhinos has been territorial fights due to limited space in sanctuaries which has also led to suppressed growth rates due,” explained Dr. Erustus Kanga, the Director General of Kenya Wildlife Service. “I am elated to be associated with this momentous effort to secure more space for this cornerstone species.”
Meanwhile, southern white rhinos continue to thrive in Kenya, having increased from 50 individuals that were imported from South Africa in the eighties and nineties to reach the current population of 971 individuals.
Kenya is also playing a critical role in efforts to save the northern white rhino from extinction, as it is host to the only remaining two females of the species left in the world. The international BioRescue project has developed thirty embryos awaiting implantation into surrogate females within the closely-related subspecies of southern white rhino.
“The return of black rhinos to Loisaba, 50 years after the last known individual here was killed by poachers in the 1970s, is a demonstration of how impactful partnerships between governments and conservation NGOs can be for restoring, managing, and protecting our natural world,” said Dr. Max Graham, CEO and Founder of Space for Giants, one of the project partners.
“And, of course, the return of black rhinos here gives all of us one of the most precious commodities of all: hope.”

Something is happening. Americans are organizing to fight the oligarchy. Turns out, circumventing the Constitution, crashing the economy, and cutting vital services to fund tax cuts for the wealthy is not very popular. This is in Denver.
* * * *
It’s happening, folks!
March 24, 2025
Robert B. Hubbell
It’s happening, folks! The resistance is picking up steam, gaining the momentum needed to reach the tipping point. Readers from around the nation reported in yesterday’s Comment section about their participation in weekend protests and town halls in Maplewood, Minnesota; Buncombe County, North Carolina; Westwood, California; Bozeman, Montana; Dedham, Massachusetts; Indiana Dunes National Park; San Diego, California, and more.
Josh Marshall of Talking Points Memo wrote the following in his Sunday evening post:
They’re happening: ’empty chair’ town halls in Republican districts pretty much all over the place. This weekend we’ve got reports in Columbus, Ohio for Sens, Moreno and Husted, on Maryland’s eastern shore, where Jamie Raskin had to show up in place of Andy Harris; [I]n Little Rock for French Hill, Tom Cotton and John Boozman, in Lexington for Andy Barr; [I]n Billings, nearly a 1,000 showed up for no shows Daines, Sheehy and Downing, about 300 for Daines, Sheehy and Zinke in Missoula, and another big turnout for no show Darrell Issa outside San Diego.
Marshall’s list represents a small portion of the “empty chair” town hall meetings sweeping the nation.
On Friday evening, Senator Bernie Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez drew a crowd of 15,000 in Tempe, with 123,000 people watching online! To other Democratic Senators and Representatives, follow the example being set by Bernie and AOC! The people crave leadership at this perilous moment. Provide it!
The protests are succeeding because they are re-writing the political narrative. We have gone from the false narrative of “Trump's electoral mandate” to the true narrative of “the American people are rebelling against Trump and Musk.” Protests help provide legitimacy and authority to court rulings. Most importantly, they inspire more Americans to speak out and join the protests.
As good as the protests have been to date, we need more protests everywhere—big, small, and in between. We are approaching two days of national protest—please make an effort to join them:
March 29, 2025—A plan to hold 500 protests against Elon Musk / Tesla across the nation. See "Tesla Takedown" movement plans 500 protests in 277 stores, Superchargers
April 5, 2025—A national day of protest, see 50501 — 50 protests, 50 states, 1 movement to learn about an event near you. This national day of protest is co-sponsored by multiple organizations including 50501, Indivisible, Women’s March, and Hands Off!
Keep up the good work! We are gaining momentum!
Pause for a moment to reflect on the unlawfulness and destruction of Doge
As I mentioned in my Saturday livestream comments, an unfortunate side-effect of reporting everything that is being destroyed by Doge and Trump is that the media has begun to skip over the most important point: Everything Musk and Doge are doing is unconstitutional, unlawful, and likely illegal (as in a violation of US criminal law).
No story about the latest round of cuts or closures is complete unless it includes a statement to the effect that they are, “In violation of the constitutional Appropriations Clause, the Appointments Clause, and the president’s duty to “take care that the laws are faithfully executed,. And the story should also include, “The failure to disburse funds appropriated by Congress violates the 1974 Impoundment Control Act . . . .”
Let’s not give into the notion that Musk, Doge, and Trump have the legal authority to shutter agencies, withhold funds, or cancel contracts. They do not.
Finally, in a shocking—shocking—as in s-h-o-c-k-i-n-g development, IRS has circulated an internal report that estimates that the Doge disruption to the IRS has caused the loss of half a trillion in tax revenue. See Talking Points Memo, IRS Predicts DOGE Lost Half a Trillion Dollars for the USA.
Although a report in the Washington Post disclosed the IRS memo, I have unsubscribed and blocked WaPo from my newsfeed. But Josh Marshall describes the situation as follows:
Based on the number of taxpayers who have filed tax returns and paid to date, the IRS predicts that tax receipts through April 15, 2025, will be $500 billion below historical norms. It is possible that some of that difference is temporary (which increases the US debt and borrowing costs) but some of it is likely intended to be permanent, i.e., people not paying taxes because they believe staff reductions at the IRS decrease the likelihood of collection efforts. Not a good situation for the US—and a direct consequence of the reckless, counter-productive cuts by Doge.
For comparison, the $500 billion decrease caused by Doge disruption is about one-fourth of the IRS's annual collections. That is a sizable hole in US tax revenue.
This is a MAJOR scandal that could have significant consequences for the US debt.
[In a related story, the IRS is near an agreement with ICE to confirm the addresses of undocumented migrants in the US. The IRS encouraged undocumented migrants to file tax returns—and many did. Now that the IRS is going to use tax returns to help ICE locate undocumented migrants, what is the likely effect on the number of migrants who will file tax returns? See IRS nearing agreement to use its data to help ICE locate undocumented migrants | CNN Politics]

By Adam Piore
A new study from researchers at Mass General Brigham suggests racial disparities and the difficulty in diagnosing the condition may be leading to a massive undercount.
Almost one in four Americans may be suffering from long COVID, a rate more than three times higher than the most common number cited by federal officials, a team led by Boston area researchers suggests in a new scientific paper.
The peer-reviewed study, led by scientists and clinicians from Mass General Brigham, drew immediate skepticism from some long COVID researchers, who suggested their numbers were “unrealistically high.” But the study authors noted that the condition is notoriously difficult to diagnose and official counts also likely exclude populations who were hit hardest by the pandemic but face barriers in accessing healthcare.
“Long COVID is destined to be underrepresented, and patients are overlooked because it sits exactly under the health system’s blind spot,” said Hossein Estiri, head of AI Research at the Center for AI and Biomedical Informatics at Mass General Brigham and the paper’s senior author.
Though the pandemic hit hardest in communities of color where residents had high rates of preexisting conditions and many held service industry jobs that placed them at high risk of contracting the virus, the vast majority of those diagnosed with long COVID are white, non-Hispanic females who live in affluent communities and have greater access to healthcare, he said.
Moreover, many of the patients who receive a long COVID diagnosis concluded on their own that they have the condition and then persuaded their doctors to look into it, he said. As a result, the available statistics we have both underestimate the true number of patients suffering from the condition and skew it to a specific demographic.
“Not all people even know that their condition might be caused or exacerbated by COVID,” Estiri said. “So those who go and get a diagnosis represent a small proportion of the population.”
Diagnosis is complicated by the fact that long COVID can cause hundreds of different symptoms, many of which are difficult to describe or are easily dismissed, such as sleep problems, headaches or generalized pain, Estiri said. According to its formal definition, long COVID occurs after a COVID-19 infection, lasts for at least three months, affects one or more organ systems, and includes a broad range of symptoms such as crushing fatigue, pain, and a racing heart rate.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggested that in 2022 roughly 6.9 percent of Americans had long COVID. But the algorithm developed by Estiri’s team estimated that 22.8 percent of those who’d tested positive for COVID-19 met the diagnostic criteria for long COVID in the 12 months that followed, even though the vast majority had not received an official diagnosis.
To calculate their number, Estiri’s team built a custom artificial intelligence tool to analyze data from the electronic health records of more than 295,000 patients served at four hospitals and 20 community health centers in Massachusetts. The AI program pulled out 85,000 people who had been diagnosed with COVID through June 2022, and then applied a pattern recognition algorithm to identify those that matched the criteria for long COVID in the 12 months that followed.
Some researchers questioned the paper’s conclusions. Dr. Eric Topol, author of the 2019 book “Deep Medicine: How Artificial Intelligence Can Make Healthcare Human Again,” said the medical field is still divided over precisely what constitutes long COVID, and that complicates efforts to program an accurate AI algorithm.
“Since we have difficulties with defining long Covid, using AI on electronic health records may not be a way to make the diagnosis accurately,” said Topol, who is executive vice president of Scripps Research in San Diego. “I’m uncertain about this report.”
Dr. Ziyad Al-Aly, chief of research and development at the VA St. Louis Health Care System, and an expert on long COVID, called the 22.8 percent figure unrealistically high and said the paper “grossly inflates” its prevalence.
“Their approach does not account for the fact that things happen without COVID (not everything that happens after COVID is attributable to COVID)— resulting in significant over-inflation of prevalence estimate,” he wrote via email.
Estiri said the research team took several measures to validate its AI algorithm, retroactively applying it to the charts of 800 people who had received a confirmed long COVID diagnosis from their doctor to see if it could predict the condition. The algorithm accurately diagnosed them more than three quarters of the time.
The algorithm scanned the records for patients who had a COVID diagnosis prior to July 2022, then looked for a constellation of symptoms that could not be explained by other conditions and lasted longer than two months. To refine the program, they conferred with clinicians and assigned different weights to different symptoms and conditions based on how often they are associated with long COVID, which made them more likely to be identified as potential sufferers.
Now that the initial paper has been published, the team is building a new algorithm that can be trained to detect the presence of long COVID in the medical records of patients without a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis so the condition can be confirmed by clinicians and they can get the care they need, Estiri said.
But the most exciting part of the new research, Estiri said, is its potential to facilitate follow-up research and help refine and individualize treatment plans. In the months ahead, Estiri and his co-principal investigator Shawn Murphy, chief research information officer at Mass General Brigham, plan to ask a wide variety of questions by querying the medical records in their sample. Does vaccination make a patient more or less likely to develop the condition? How about treatment with Paxlovid? Do the symptoms patients develop differ based on those factors? What are the genomic characteristics of patients who are suffering from cardiovascular symptoms as opposed to those whose symptoms are associated with lung function or those who crash after exercising? Can they identify biomarkers in the bloodstream that could be used for diagnosis?
They have already prepared studies on vaccine efficacy, the effect of age as a risk factor, and whether the risk of long COVID increases with the fourth and fifth infection, Estiri said. “We were waiting for this paper to come out,” he said. “So now we can actually go ahead with the follow-up studies. With this cohort we can do things that no other study has been able to do, and I’m hoping it can really help people.”
