Game Journal: Anode/Cathode Tamer - Entry #02

So, after 2 more hours of gameplay, which conveniently let me defeat the first story boss, here’s entry #2 of this journal. Pictured at the top is the “Wisdom Tree” I referred to in the previous entry. It doesn’t give particularly vital info, but I’ll probably be checking it out semi-regularly.

After leaving the village, we come across an obstacle in the very first screen. There is no indication on how to destroy those pillars, so the reasonable assumption is to enter the temple. The temple has two different doors, each of which leads to a different “dungeon”. I enter the first of these pretty confident on my Agumon, specially when I realize it’s still just Baby levels and maybe a Child level. I’m defeating them with ease when suddenly tragedy strikes:

You see this? That’s a Perfect level. No, I don’t have to fight one in this dungeon, but this is an example of one of the gameplay mechanics: Variable moves. Basically, depending on your party, your digimon might learn one of these variable moves, which allows them to channel the power of an stronger digimon for one attack. Not only that, but you don’t need to be next to your opponent to attack them. These are long range attacks. Enemies, though? They already know them. And so, I got beaten. Badly.

I decided to explore the village a bit more. One of the buildings had a Piccolomon who let you practice how to fight with a borrowed team. Once I won one of these practice battles, Piccolomon led me to a corner of the village where it summoned these beauty. I’m assuming this allowed you to connect your console to a V-Pet or a Digivice and have fights between your in-game digimon and your V-Pet digimon. Since I’m not exactly playing this on a Wonderswan console, nor do I have a Digital Monster or a Pendulum or a Digivice from the past century, I can’t use this, but it’s an interesting addition anyway.

The important thing, though, was that the “Daycare” building I mentioned in my previous entry actually gives you new digimon every time you clear a dungeon, and the one I got for clearing the tutorial? Veedramon. I guess it shouldn’t be surprising, since this is literally the “Veedramon Version” of the game. And yes, I named him Zeromaru. Now with a party of 2 digimon that includes one of the strongest Adult-levels in the lore, I prepare myself to attempt the dungeon again.

You see this guy? This guy is evil. This guy is worse than Analogman, Vamdemon, the D-Reaper, Kurata, the 7 Great Demon Lords and the pervert Gennai from Tri put together. This guy is everything that’s wrong with the world.

Anyway, I defeat the scourge of the Earth and get a Poyomon. Then I clear the other half of the dungeon and get a Yuramon. This game really knows how to reward you.

Armed with a powerful Adult-level, a pretty good Child-level and two Baby I digimon, I proceed in my journey and reach this fortress. I just realized while typing this entry that I have seen these cables somewhere else:

This dilapidated tower is right next to the village. No explanation given. Interesting. Anyway, I enter the previously mentioned fortress and prepare myself for an epic fight. There’s 4 rooms, each of which has a Baby I level, a Child level and an Adult level, of which at least one has a Variable move. Naturally, my Poyomon dies fast, but my Agumon manages to hold on until the last room. With my Veedramon still with over half his health, I prepare to grab my new digimon, when suddenly:

Remember how Milleniummon had revived the old villains? Well, here’s the first. Takeru’s old pal Devimon, aided by a Devidramon and a Gazimon, one of which knows Variable moves. All 2 against my half-health Veedramon. You can guess how this ends.

Here’s good ol’ Devimon in the middle of crushing my dreams. With my confidence in ruins, there was only one thing to do:

Kill some babies in the tutorial dungeon! Why, you ask? Well, I had a theory on what would happen if I beat levels a second time:

I present my current team to you. Yes, beating a level for a second time also rewards you with a digimon, and this time around it was another Veedramon (though a weaker one). Not only was my team now much stronger, but a miracle happened:

They now learned Variable moves! I have no idea why some dragon-digimon can channel the power of a wooden puppet, but they can. Over the course of the dungeon, all 3 learned this exact same move, and now with a much more capable team I could do this:

To add insult to injury, I defeated him with Agumon, rather than with the Veedramon. Anyway, now that Devimon is gone, I could save the first two of the Chosen Children:

No idea why Devimon didn’t have Takeru with him (would have made more sense), but in any case I’m fine with these two. Koushiro proceeds to tell Ryo that he’s been watching him with the DigiAnalyzer (err, kind of creepy, Koushiro) and Mimi proceeds to ask us to save Taichi. Not “Taichi and the others”, just Taichi. Okay. Palmon and Tentomon join our team to save their friends (these two only mention Gabumon and Patamon).

After the duo presumably leaves for the Human World (I guess they’d rather spend New Year’s Eve with their families than save their friends from some homicidal and vengeful digimon), I go to the “Daycare” to pick up my new Digimon!

... Could be worse. At least there’s a Child level now, and it’s aquatic so I get more range. I explore the village a bit more, now that the impending threat is gone, and a cutscene triggers in one of the screens. A ToyAgumon appears, telling us that Gennai send them to activate a portal to the Server Continent so that I can save the rest of the Chosen Children. They needs a password to activate it, though, so they proceeds to say some unintelligible words.

Jerk!Gennai appears and chews ToyAgumon out for incompetence I guess. He proceeds to ask us if we want to go to Server (a place that is apparently a Dark continent full of evil digimon) right now or wait. I decide to wait, so he tells me he’ll be in his house if we need him, and to prepare to leave.

I have no idea what the purpose of that scene was, other than to have Gennai scream at a Child Digimon. Guess this is another example of the game wanting to characterize Gennai as a jerk.

DigiAnalyzer - Entry #55

FIRST DEVIANATION OF THE YEAR AND OF THE DECADE! FINALLY I MADE IT AFTER 4 MONTHS!

Digimon Reference Book Profile: Lavamon, is a demonic digimon that was originally created to aid children who are afraid of the dark, but it got corrupted by an evil computer virus, that's why it was imprisoned in the Dark Area. Despite being imprisoned in the Dark Area and being part of the Ciphermaniacs, exist rumors about this digimon, hating and loathing the dreaded Ciphermon, despite being his boss. This digimon can glow in the dark and emits it's own light and has two personalites, who can be best described as a red oni and blue oni, with Lavamon being the blue one and Gorgonzola (the drop) being the red one. Both constrasting personalities have different ways in approaching the enemies, but they work together despite their differences. Despite it doesn't seem like it, this digimon it's actually made of actual volcanic lava, making it very hot, it's not suitable that unexperienced tamers approach it, without measures, as he can melt anything in his path, his body is made of Chrome Digizoid, Digital World's most powerful metal, this makes his lighter despite of how it can look. It's main attack is named "Hell's Lava", an attack where it spits the lava of hell to it's enemies and it's extremly hot.

Attacks:

Hell's Lava: Spits extremly hot lava from it's mouth. It can melt anything.

Molten Metal: Spits molten metal from it's mouth.

Lava Meteor: The drop-like being behind him, spits a lava meteor from it's mouth.

Hell's Lava B: Simmilar to Hell's Lava, but it's blue and more dangerous, since it's made of sulfur.

Electric Volcano: The drop-like being, behind him summons a cloud and attacks with lightning bolts.

Fiery Pit: Grabs the enemy with it's

Sulfur Ring: Lavamon attacks using a ring of blue fire againist it's enemy, which is made of sulfur.

Volcanic Foam: The drop-like being spits lava foam from his mouth.

Plasma Foam: Shoots acid foam from the two holes above, in his arm.

Plasma Razor: Uses his legs to attack, like if they were razors.

Volcanic Plasma: Shoots a beam, from it's mechanic arm.

Atomic Meteor: From his left arm, summons a ball of energy to attack.

Aesthesic:

In his beta design, as seen in the DVD Blu-ray edition, Lava Lamp Guy, was planned to have a fez, but was swapped to a bowler hat in the final version.

The drop's name is Gorgonzola. He's one of the two personalities of Lavamon.

Lacks a night palette, because he can glow in the dark.

All of the Ciphermaniacs, have a Digital Hazard Symbol in their bodies, in Lavamon’s case, he has it in his fez.

Lavamon's body emits light in his own, since it's made of lava. It's glow is orange.

Unlike Volcdramon, he can regulate the temperature of it's body.

His body is extremly hot, it can actually fry anybody or cause thrid degree burns in the worst of the cases, the metallic parts of his body are hot, but they're made of Chrome Digizoid, therefore they can't melt.

The fez and the bowler hat are made of an special material that can stand high temperatures, this also applies to the glass.

The Lamp half is in control, he and the drop have a blue oni, red oni dynamic respectively and have opposite personalities, despite this, they're in the same allignement. So they both are evil.

Gorgonzola can stretch as much as he can and if you have ever seen Ben 10, it has the same movility as Goop, one of Ben's aliens, he can move as if he were made of slime and can shape shift as many times it wants, his bowler hat always follows him. Also, the drop, has a gummy bear consistence.

Power:

Lavamon (Lava Lamp Guy) has the average power level of an Ultimate-Leveled Digimon.

FINALLY AFTER 3 MONTHS! I FINALLY FINISHED DRAWING THIS GUY!

IT'S GREAT! I'VE FINISHED HIM!

Digimon Reference Book Profile:

Castellamon is a massive digimon that was imprisoned in the Dark Area for it's crimes. This demonic digimon has massive size, but the most impressive thing is his castle, in which he can revive and make fantasy and imaginary characters real, his castle also works as a prison. Despite being a demon, Castellamon's main characteristic are his ice abilities, making him a kind of an outcast toward other demons. Castellamon belongs to the Ciphermaniacs, a group of demons that work for the evil Ciphermon, if he likes him or not, it's an object of debate. Despite his bestial and violent demeanor, Castellamon is also a guy who loves partying more than anyone. His main techinques include aspirating his enemies to imprison them in his castle of nightmares ("Hell's Vacuum") and a powerful freezing beam that he shoots from his mouth in the shape of a ball ("Glacies Mortem"), he can reanimate as well Mortem and Mori, two skeletons from his deceased victims to attack his enemies ("Aliquantus").

Hell's Vacuum: Inhalates and absorbs people towards his mouth, anybody who he eats, ends trapped in his castle.

Glacies Mortem: Shoots an ice beam from his mouth.

Glacies Mortem Reloaded: A charged version of "Glacies Mortem", in which he accumulates the beams and releases them.

Glacies Impluo: Shoots a rain of icicles from his mouth

Glacies Flamma: Shoots from his torax a flame, that freezes anything that touches it.

Vae Victis: Castellamon, shoots multiple cannons from the towers of his castle.

Vox Nihili: Castellamon shoots a VERY loud screech from his mouth, allowing to him, to easily: knock, kill or stun his enemies.

Kori Katana: Uses the sharp edges in his left leg to attack his enemy. (They're charged with ice)

Kori Tsume: Uses the sharp claws in his right arm to attack his enemy. (They're charged wih ice)

Aliquantus: Reanimates Mortem and Mori, the two skeletons that he has in his belly. (The symbol of his head glows when he does that.)

Aliquantulus: He attacks his enemies, with the maze of his tail.

Flagellum Dei: Castellamon flies and creates two tornados from his wings.

Aesthesic:

His castle can be seen smaller, but is pretty spacious.

I gave Castellamon (Zanthar) a head in this AU, because I want that another character beheads him and he ends looking, like he looks in the series.

From his chest, when he opens the mouth, a cannon appears.

The eyes of the chest can glow.

His legs from behind can glow in the darkness.

Like all of the Ciphermaniacs, he has a Digital Hazard Symbol in their bodies. In Castellamon's case, he has it in his left arm.

Castellamon's castle CAN ACTUALLY SUFFER DAMAGE, but he keeps healing it, because, it's technically a part of his body.

If he loses his head, the attacks using his mouth

As you can see, I took a lot of inspiration from El Doradimon and Imperialdramon, but I also took inspiration from Zanthars' beta design that @robertryancory designed. You can see it in @gravi-teamfalls. Right here!  Here’s Zanthar beta design:
