6 Tips to Protect against Ransomware

1. Avoid opening email attachments from unknown sources

Opening email attachments indiscriminately could get your devices infected with ransomware. To be safe, only open emails that are genuinely sent to you and from senders, you can identify. If you are not sure whether the email was indeed directed to you, you could call the sender to clarify with them. Do not hesitate to delete suspicious emails that look like phishing attacks. If you cannot easily make a judgment, you can consult your IT department.

2. Shun suspicious sites

As you surf the internet, beware of malicious sites that are potentially dangerous. Fake gaming and file sharing sites are especially prone to hidden ransomware that could infect your device. Avoid downloading “free” files as they could come along with the viruses. Also, check the site’s URL; if it doesn’t bear the ‘s’ in ‘HTTPS, there is a chance that they are not safe to visit. When you must visit such potentially malicious sites, ensure you are protected by advanced anti-virus software.
