The gratitude I feel to have such a phenomenal mentor and dear friend in my life is immeasurable. @madazon_can_can is precisely who I needed in a drag dad and I know it’s no coincidence our paths crossed. I have learned so much from them and I’m looking forward to learning even more in the multitudes of fields they’re teaching me. Not only have they guided me in becoming a drag king, but also in spiritual progression and life ethics. I appreciate their blunt, forward way of teaching and being. It’s harsh but needed. I’ve had plenty of nice people in my life, I need kind human beings in my life now; and kindness isn’t always sweet. Sometimes it’s brutal and heartbreaking, but it’s most often euphoric and validating. The importance of people like Madazon is that they consistently strive to create safe spaces for the outsiders like myself. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned from them, especially this past weekend, is boundaries. As drag kings we are embodying masculinity and with that comes boundaries. Divine masculinity, which we all possess, is all about standing up for our boundaries to protect ourselves and those in our life we love. It’s something very foreign to me but Madazon has been helping me excavate that part of myself that I’ve always possessed. It’s empowering to become the daddy of your own life and sometimes you need an enby clown daddy to show you how to do that. So thank you Dadazon for all the wisdom you’ve given me and I can’t wait for more queer gemini adventures! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 What a wild, wild weekend!!!!! I had an absolute blast @pride.of.southern.utah with my Dadazon @madazon_can_can ! I met incredible queens like @trelatrache , and saw so many other fantastic artists I unfortunately didn’t get the names of, but it was a beautifully creative queer space. We met so many awesome queer youth that are so inspiring. This weekend was super important because I’ve found my battery, the force that is pushing me towards all of this. I don’t do drag for money, in fact I spend way more doing this than I make. I’ve been wondering what my motivation is to keep going, besides the art of it all, and I finally know why. I’m doing this to empower and embolden people to stand up for love and our right to exist. It meant so much to be there with the gay teens and show them that they are beautiful and important. To see them rebelling against the norm and finding joy in who they truly are is so heartwarming to see. Us older queers that grew up in rural Utah didn’t get to have a space to do that and I’m so grateful they won’t have to experience that immense isolation their entire teenage years. They have friends and they have us, the entirety of the queer community. So that’s why I’m doing this; for community and love. I’m so grateful for every one of you rebellious teenagers I met, continue to be fiercely powerful.
