god the talking heads fucking rule. stylistically awesome and the amount of personality they bring to this comic!! the tongue-in-cheek way the hostess of "news in the nude" is so far our main reliable source of information. love em. voice of the people
#i don't know if that's gonna hold or if that's frank's intended message#i certainly don't think i remember as much from dkr#but i like it. i like em#dk2 electric boogaloo

Other themes to keep an eye on: reactionary longing for the past, the good old days are gone, the end times are upon us. Good old Y2K.
What were the nuclear anxieties like in 2001... that's such a cold war thing to me. But something about the "controversial, five-trillion-dollar planetary defense system" that launched a nuclear warhead at an asteroid that was not headed towards earth but missed and ended up redirecting the asteroid towards earth is just. fucking perfect. That actually feels easily transferred to environmental anxieties, honestly...hm.
This guy feels like he's based on someone but idk who
i like his vibe.

Taking a break from blog customization to take a long-overdue re-peek at dk2. Non-zero chance this is a nixon joke? Wrong time period but might be the right spot in frank's brain
#you know i think i'll grow to enjoy frank's writing more and more as i get older. like i think i've aged past the initial#'oh god he's drawing a butt' bad-faith reaction#like there's substance i want to get to that i don't think ive really given a chance in the past#lemme just skim nixon's wikipedia page it's been a while since apush#mm okay nah i don't think his policies match what the heads are talking about. authoritarianism and national strength no mention of foreign#policy AND stock market is rising lol. so probably not a nixon reference. so how general is this charicature#more to think about!#dk2 electric boogaloo#the sequel.

Wait, Lex is in charge? Goddamn. Is he just on a screen or is he really that huge I can't tell
Also, put a pin in "the whims of god-like beings and how they impose their will" as a theme here also, I suppose? I don't know why that one feels less special here, somehow. Just like, yeah, power. domination. helplessness. various degrees of all of that. nesting dolls. Why does that feel trite. Anyway have an example of spectacular layout:
look at this.
#dk2 electric boogaloo#hmm gonna key in on 'is selected' there. like the laser chose on its own. fear of tech hey-ohhhh

The weapon is deployed, the asteroid is destroyed. Supes cleans up after the country's oopsie because he's got the weight of two peoples on his shoulders. The Powers That Be use that as leverage against him, he is not his own boss, he is Atlas with sweat rolling down his neck: all this effort exerted just to keep things right where they are.
That makes sense. Still not sure I've got Bruce's mindset down pat. He's just shakin shit up. Clark calls him a perfectionist who refuses to compromise; I can't tell if that's the deal. I don't know if he doesn't know about the lives at stake like Clark does, if he doesn't care, if he's considering them collateral damage, if he's betting on "winning" before whatever genocide Clark's predicting, or what.
Bruce has been running around and busting old supers out of forced servitude. Wild that he doesn't seem to see the same in Supes right now.

Thinking about the prof and and our theme of the good old days. Carrie, the closest thing the work has framed as our protag so far, adores him. He's our ubermench, rising from the primordial depths, fully formed, slaying monsters, surfing on protons. FUCK with Carrie swallowing and PUKING him that's fucking ZEUS imagery right there ISN'T IT. Godly. He's our Perfect Superhero. Sitting on top of the world, inside of its kernel.
And he's been tucked away for years, plucked from captivity when Bruce decided that it was time to act. Perfectly preserved, frozen in time. I wonder if there's more to it than just framing him as a good-old-fasioned hero.

further adventures in tastefully cropping the body of this teenage character. One: she named this glider Herb. Herb talks to her. Two: this laser sequence, Bruce saying how she memorized the sequence of the vectors (like i know what that means), REALLY reminds me of dick's laser activities in the lbm
