a local, reasonably successful artist whose work i hate is having an exhibition and i got to have a very satisfying conversation with my boss about it (my boss also hates his work)
#the artist in question taught at my uni for a bit and apparently now he's got a phd#but his art is the most bland surface level take on digital art possible#it is also: exactly the same as when i first encountered his work in 2016#it wows the academic art world bc none of them know anything about digital art#but like. dude. this looks bad AND it's not even a new or interesting idea#last week one of the gamedev talks i went to was about using the data in your art assets creatively and effectively#that was very neat!! hard to simplify or explain quickly but like.#it was about how digital art is fundamentally just data#and you do not have to stick to using that data the way you have previously or how the system assumes you will#do data crimes/magic with your image files for peak efficiency and cool effects#now that's a new and interesting take on digital art! like i know the talk wasnt even about like. fine art. its gamedev tips#but like that pushes the bounds of digital art and what you can do with it way more than like 90% of the art world
