A Couple of Day’s Experience at Gorumara National Park
Situated on the western part of Dooars, Gorumara National Park lies at the Eastern Himalayan foothills. It is located in the Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal, covering nearly 80 sq km of lush greenery, torrential rivers, and wilderness. Comprising pristine grasslands and semi-deciduous trees, Dooars is one of the bio-diverse landscapes of India.
Gorumara has been identified as a reserved forest in the year 1942. Back then the tigers used to hunt the livestock of the villages adjacent to the forest. Hence the name Gorumara, which literally means killing the cow. Considering its rich biodiversity, Gorumara was established as a national park in the year 1992. The park has been declared among the best protected areas by the Government of India’s Ministry of Environment and Forest in the year 2009.
Tumblr media
Gorumara National Park remains open from October to June and the best time to visit Gorumara is from November to March, as the weather is very pleasant that time.
DAY 1.
Starting early in the morning by going for a jungle safari is the best way to admire the forest and beauty of Lataguri. You can roam in gypsies in the buffer areas to see the wild animals and lose yourself in the peaceful silence of the jungle.
Medla watch tower is the most popular in the national park. The bullock cart ride adds to the thrill of the jungle, making you feel royal amidst the greenery.
In the evening you can experience the beautiful dance performance of the local tribes based in the adjacent villages. The tribals are part of the attraction of Gorumara tourism. They are the inhabitants of the forest lands since the ancient era, just like the wild inhabitants. The guests are welcomed with the beautiful performance by the tribals and the rest of the performance will be a memorable experience for the tourists in the dusk hours.
DAY 2.
Leaving Lataguri behind, comes a village called Samsing. The silence of the tea garden is broken by the mountains and rivers rushing through the rocks. The greenery of the tea gardens and the forests, contrasting with the ashen hues of the rivers create a canvas-like picture for your eyes.
Another 20 mins drive from Samsing comes Rocky Island, a popular tourist destination on the bank of Murti River. High currents of the Murti river creates a monotonous yet soothing sound. Significant to its name, the Rocky Island surfaces from the stony riverbed of the Murti River. A few kilometres ahead of the Rocky Island is the Suntalekhola village, with almost similar rustic beauty.
The majestic colonial Tea Bungalow of Fagu is a few kilometres away from the Gorumara National Park, located atop a hill. The sloping bungalow reflects every bit of British dignity in its grand furnishing. The bungalow is located beautifully in the middle of a sprawling tea plantation surrounded with fertile forest vegetation and the splendid Himalaya in the background.
Travelling bonanza for you!
With extra days of 1 or 2, go for sightseeing at Jalpaiguri. Top attractions include -
Jalpaiguri Rajbari
Teesta Udyan
Jogomaya Kalibari
Sarojendra Deb Raikat Kala Kendra

Buxa Fort
Jubilee Park

Bring your dream home to life in Dooars
As cities grow into denser concrete jungles, a second home in a green surrounding becomes all the more tempting for anyone. For people in West Bengal, Dooars has always been a preferred vacation destination. Today, many people who have enjoyed holidays in the area are investing in it to make it a more permanent residential option. Imagine having tea gardens just a short drive away, Sunday picnics by meandering streams and being enveloped in cool breezes. It isn’t hard to imagine why people want to buy property at Dooars North Bengal.
Budget-friendly dream houses
There’s no denying in, apartments in cities are growing to be more and more like matchboxes. If you’ve ever dreamt of living in a quaint cottage, a forest bungalow in Dooars is ideal for you. The landscape here is ideal for bungalows and cottages and they’re priced much lower than bungalows in surrounding areas. For example, while you would pay upwards of Rs 50 lakhs for a bungalow in Siliguri, the same in Dooars would be priced at around Rs 20 lakhs. That’s a 60% drop! In terms of per square foot rates, it works out to a range between Rs 2,500 and Rs 5000.
Versatile property options
Independent homes look beautiful but their maintenance requirements are much higher. Managing a garden, security, sanitation, etc on your own can be a challenge especially for people above a certain age. With this mind, developers in Dooars have provided a range of versatile property options. If a cottage doesn’t sound right to you, there are apartment complexes too that are just as inviting. Development is still at a nascent stage making this a great investment opportunity too.
Easy connectivity
Living in the wilderness sounds exciting until there’s a need for hospitals, schools, etc. Dooars has the infrastructure required and is well connected to cities like Kolkata for all other needs. The proximity to NJP is a big plus point when you’re looking for the best Dooars cottage. From almost anywhere in Dooars, one can reach the NJP station within 2 hours by car. And the drive is a beautiful one – so unlike the drive across crowded cities as you go from one end to another. From the NJP station, one can catch a direct train to Sealdah Railway Station.
Connected yet disconnected
It seems contradictory but living in one of the best riverside resorts in Dooars is the ideal balance between being connected to the call of both modern living and nature. You can heed whichever call you like. When you want to see the city lights, a short drive or a train journey will get you there. When you want, you can also walk amidst lush green hills and spot the snow covered Kanchenjunga. A weekend at the Gorumara Forest may even reward you with a sight of the one-horned rhino. Where else can you get all of this…
Beautiful weather
Not to forget, Dooars boasts of picture-postcard weather throughout the year. Even the summers are relatively cool especially if you compare the weather to the rest of West Bengal that gets hot and humid. The monsoons make the landscape come alive with all the different shades of green. And, when winter comes, you don’t need more than a light wrap to keep you cozy.
Buying property in Dooars
Whether it’s your first home or your second or your third, buying a home is always an investment that must be carefully thought through. You need to buy a home you love spending time in. If it’s a vacation home you’re looking at, here are two important points you should keep in mind.
Budgets and taxes
A budget is the first thing to clarify when you’re thinking of buying a home. But, don’t budget just for the cost of the house. If you spend only half your time here and half the year in another home, you’ll have to account for the maintenance and running of both. Your tax bracket may also change.
Location and facilities
Dooars is a beautiful location but when you’re looking at properties online, you may not realize that all the listings aren’t exactly in the heart of the area. There may be a beautiful cottage at a throwaway price but it may be on the outskirts with a poor access route. Do your homework and as far as possible, try to see the property in person before confirming a purchase. Apart from the location of the property, also consider it’s proximity to shops for your everyday needs, medical help centers, etc.
Ready to buy your vacation home?
As a locale, Dooars has the best of everything. Friendly locals, clean air, never-ending green vistas and cottages that seem to belong in fairytales. Buying property at Dooars North Bengal is a decision that will always prove advantageous. So, start your search and enjoy nature at her best.

While staying at the best resort in Lataguri, you can take recommendations about a skilled guide from the hotel staff.
3. Follow the jungle etiquettes- To increase the likelihood of wildlife spotting, it is always advised to follow the jungle etiquettes. You must silence your cameras, phones, and other devices to not disrupt the silence of the forest. You must also talk in whispers as elephants and tigers avoid places with loud screams and noises.
4. Look for any pugmarks- Pugmarks are a great indication of having a tiger nearby. During your jungle safari, you must always look for pugmarks and try to follow them to spot some of the wild cats. However, it is highly advised to not wander in any forest areas without expert guidance.
5. Listen to the jungle- Tigers are the most dangerous predators in the jungle and this is why deer, birds, and langurs make alarm calls when they spot a tiger. You must listen to such alarming sounds carefully as they may indicate the presence of a tiger nearby.
6. Wait near water sources- During the dry season, tigers and elephants both wander in the forest to drink water. The driver conducting the safari knows all the water sources in the forest areas of Lataguri. You can stay put near one of such sources to spot wild animals.

INTERRELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PRODUCTIVITY AND ABIOTIC FACTORS-AN INVESTIGATION IN REPRESENTATIVE DOOARS REGION TEA GARDENS OF WEST BENGAL | Asian Journal of Advances in Research
The northern part of West Bengal, bordered by the Teesta River in the west, the Sankosh River and Assam in the east, the Kingdom of Bhutan in the north and Bangladesh in the south, is part of the Dooars region. The area is approximately 130 km by 40 km and comprises the Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Coochbehar districts. Huge areas of forest cover are disrupted by plenty of tea gardens that not only improve the economy, but also add socio-cultural hotspot due to the fact that a good number of tribal people who work for the forest and tea garden in and around the tea garden are inhabited. But now, despite taking all the precautions available, the tea industry in this region is facing a big break due to less productivity. In this case, loppers are the prime suspect. In addition, pest surveillance often relies more precisely on various environmental abiotic variables on the climatic situation. This paper deals with this critical topic. This is where attempts are made to understand the impact of precipitation and temperature on tea productivity. In this research, Madhu Tea Estate is taken as a control site because it has been locked out for the last 10 years and proper maintenance such as pruning, irrigation and spraying of pesticides is not at all performed. Borodighi Tea Garden and Chowafulli Tea Garden, on the other hand, are chosen as experimental locations where proper maintenance is carried out. In the Jalpaiguri district, the Borodighi tea garden and Chowafulli tea garden are located. More precisely, two testing sites are nearby. It has been discovered that both rainfall and temperature have a positive association with productivity through MINITAB software version 18 study.
