New Doraemon Will Hatch a Pet Dinosaur
Doraemon is celebrating 40 years of feature films with a throwback to where it all began: Nobita and dinosaurs
The 2020 film Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s New Dinosaur will be the 40th film in the franchise. The kids’ classic first made its way to the big screen with 1980’s Nobita’s Dinosaur. But despite the obvious parallels, director Kazuaki Imai says the new movie will have nothing to do with the 1980 film or its 2006 remake, featuring an entirely new story and new dinosaur designs.
August 2019 also happens to mark the 50th anniversary of the Doraemon manga, making the next several months a banner time for the earless robot cat.
Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s New Dinosaur is set to premiere in March of 2020.

A new poster has also been released for the film, featuring Nobita, Doraemon, and the gang with their new dinosaur friends:
An extended trailer will run on November 23 during that day's episode of Doraemon.

The Doraemon films have been usually released in March in Japan, but its original release date of March 6 had been moved to August 7.
The Doraemon manga's 50th-anniversary film earned 413 million yen on 334,000 admissions on its first Saturday and Sunday, ranking No.1 in the weekend box office. New Dinosaur made 761 million yen in its first four days, which was approximately the same amount as the first three-day gross of Moon Exploration.
The previous three weeks' box office winner, the live-action feature film adaptation of Hiroyuki Nishimori's comedy manga Kyo Kara Ore Wa!! dropped to second place with 218 million yen.   Meanwhile, the live-action film adaptation of Kenji Inoue (story) and Kimitake Yoshioka (art)'s seinen manga Grand Blue ranked fourth with 110 million yen in its opening weekend.
