The Prisoner (closed thread with Mischievous Magic)

It was all Director Coulson could do to walk past the Destroyer gun, using it the first time had been so gratifying in that "last thing you do before you die...but not really" kind of way.  He was still really sore about that particular day, both literally and metaphorically.  Even if executing the prisoner had been an option, the real sting came from acknowledging that they were still short-handed, too much to throw away any potential resource (no matter how smug and casually murderous).

Agents Koenig and May had argued strongly against this course of action, and were the situation not dire he would have needed little convincing; but the situation was dire and called for help beyond what his newly reborn agency could provide alone.  It was for this sole reason that he was unarmed as he entered the ante-chamber; it was for many others that he stopped and took several breaths while he listened to Agent Koenig giving the prisoner his prepared speech. All the reasons they had to kill him and the one reason they hadn't were laid out; then Billy entered the home stretch, saying it would be the new director who supervised the prisoner's term of service and who would have the only word on when (and how) it ended.  He concluded by telling the Asgardian that he would have leagues to go in getting himself free as the new director was "not a fan."

“This is it,” Phil thought, “when he opens his lying mouth, regardless of what he says, that will be my cue.” Still wishing he had the gun's reassuring girth in his hands, he waited for Loki to speak.

what are my feelings for ruby i swear to god i don't know. she is the one who did this to sam so i hate her. she is the one who saved sam's life so i owe her. she is fucking badass so i admire her. seriously though i haven't been so confused about a character since blue's clues, and that was only because i didn't know if it was a he or a she.
