We can all agree on the island of awakening that Lulu is the real queen, better royalty then the king of moonbrooke anyway
Tumblr media
Dqb2ber royal! I never liked the current royal man, the king of moonbrooke in the game, which is probably from my very biased hatred of moonbrooke, so in comparison Lulu is way better royalty and deserves to sit on that throne instead of that guy! Which is where I got the idea from, so Lulu on her throne that she deserves

Back when Undertale was big, someone in my circle of acquaintance made a post about how it felt like the "fandomized" version of a story with deeper, more complicated characters, that turned everyone into a cute bundle of quirks and awkward-but-sweet relationships.
I never liked that post, for a plethora of reasons, but lately I've been watching my partner play through Dragon Quest Builders 2.
And like, DQB2 came out after Undertale. It's definitely in conversation with it, in ways that older DQ games may not be. But like, the Dragon Quest games were clearly an inspiration for large parts of Undertale's Deep Lore (TM), and...

This is the generic Skeleton enemy in Dragon Quest. It's a mook. You kill a bunch of them. They all have the exact same personality: fighty, a bit uptight, prone to making bone puns.
Do they, perhaps, look a bit familiar?
Tumblr media
Papyrus definitely takes some... shall we say, inspiration from the Dragon Quest skeletons. But where they're interchangeable mooks, he's a good bit more fleshed out. (Pun fully intended.) We get to see how much he wants to become Captain of the Royal Guard, how much of a earnest little weirdo he is, how much he loves his brother, how gentle he is and how unwilling he is to hurt you. You get to see a whole bunch of interiority from a character who, in another game, would be a bundle of bone puns.
If Undertale is the fandomized version of a different game, it's the "fandomized" version of a Dragon Quest game. And that says good things about fandom.

I’m back with more fanart! Decided to draw her more in my style... I can’t even tell you how long it took me to get her dress right. I wanted to upload sooner but depression has been royally kicking my ass.
Since I know I have some followers that also play DQB2, I need to ask some opinions from you guys. I’ve been thinking a lot about doing the fan-comic kind of thing.. but Idk if I want to have both builders, just Celeste, or do a version for both the builders. Should I stick to the in-game designs or redesign the characters in my style (been thinking about giving Captain Whitebones a piratey look since he’s a ship captain)? Should I stick strictly to the dialogue in the game (except for the dialogue saying press x or y to do action) or change it up a little bit? I’ve been really uncertain about what choices I should make... I don’t want to upset anyone.
Also, I want to thank everyone that likes and comments on my art, and reblogs it. It really brightens my day <3

I couldn’t figure out how to draw Captain Whitebones from DQB2, so I drew one of my own original characters instead; Risun. He’s from a dream I had ages ago. He’s the king of all dragons and rules over a kingdom of elves as well. In this world, only dragons and royal elves have magic. In the kingdom he conquered, there was a royal family with incredibly strong life and healing magic. He murdered all but one member of the family, and he and his.. I guess court of dragon lords, rule over the kingdom with a tyrannical iron fist. I’m not sure if I want to draw the remaining royal family member (a princess) or one of the dragon lords next... I mildly based the dragon hierarchy off the Dragonriders of Pern, so dragons are different colors.. Could be interesting to see what different colored dragons would look like in human-like forms... Like a green or blue dragon. So hard to choose what to draw sometimes
