The secret gift.
Synopsis: The truth behind Ethan's first Christmas with Aspen's family.
For @choicesficwriterscreations holiday event using the prompt buying a naughty present for LI and mum ends up on the line behind them.
Tumblr media
Jade and Tatum giggled once more in a hushed tone as they threw another ball of wrapping paper at Ethan who had, after a long day at work, passed out on the couch. He snored lightly and the girls took turns throwing the paper in tune with his snores.
Aspen walked in, noticing the scene before her, the girls looked at their mother for approval but on this rare occasion she gave them a glare, yet gently whispering.
"Stop it you two. He's had a difficult day and whatever he may say, he tires out. "
She nudged them back to actually begin wrapping the gifts. Since only Jonah was actually young enough for the whole Santa thing, he was already tucked in and fast asleep. The girls were on wrapping duty while Aspen put things in order in the kitchen, Ethan had done most of it when she had been out Christmas shopping and picking the girls up from the airport, who had visited her parents in Florida for Christmas break.
She gazed at the living room as she cleaned up, joining her family in the warm glow of the Christmas tree. She noticed Ethan had woken up and was entertaining the girls who were now too busy laughing.
Aspen walked in, wrapping her arms around Ethan's neck from the back as one of his hands came to rest atop hers. He looked up smiling at his wife, they shared a quick kiss before Aspen joined him on the couch.
Pulling the throw around their bodies, they stared at each other, momentarily forgetting their company.
"Dada! You were telling us about your first Christmas at Nana's. " Tatum reminded, grinning slightly.
"What about it? "
"Don't you think you forgot to mention something? Cause Nana told us quite a story. " Jade chided, throwing a furtive glance at her mother.
Ethan's eyes followed to land on his wife who seemed to have suddenly caught on, going red and flustered, she glared at Jade for broaching the subject. Curious, Ethan asked,
"What did she say? "
"Oh, a terrible mistake, a horrible run in. " Jade continued, Tatum threw herself onto the carpet, putting up a show of distress.
" Jade Ivy Ramsey!! Stop it! "
"It's the reason mom took you to Florida for Christmas. "
Ethan's head once again turned to his wife who looked a little resigned and uncomfortable as she began explaining.
"Remember how I called you to join me after I was in Tampa? It's cause my mom.... met me at the check out. "
"Yeah! Nana said you were buying Dad a present but it was a secret and Nana found out so she threatened to tell him unless he joined you for Christmas. "
"What was it, the gift? "
"Uh,... his favorite....coffee machine. He hated the hospital coffee. " She replied a little lamely, thankfully the girls didn't catch on, convinced by their mothers reply, Ethan however, was the better judge.
Soon after, they all headed to bed and Ethan finally confronted his wife.
"The coffee machine? "
"Uh yeah.. About that. " She answered sheepishly, once again her cheeks turning red at the old memory.
"Remember the Christmas special lingerie? "
"Of course I do. " Ethan replied, smirking at the various instances, which sadly ended when the flimsy cloth was unable to put up with their list filled frenzy. Suddenly, his brows drew together, confused at the change of subject.
"My mom caught me buying that. "
"You... What? " Ethan's mouth fell open, eyes flicking with horror, he continued staring mutely at his wife.
"I was in the check out line and mum happened to be behind me. I was talking to Sienna at the time, telling her how you would definitely appreciate the gift, with red being your favorite and all.. I got a little carried away.. Anyway, she firmly insisted that she simply must meet the man who would 'in so many ways ravage me' and 'make it the best Christmas Eve and morning ever. "
"No No... Penny.. She knew the whole time! "
"Since the first time she met you. At least she didn't tell the girls the whole truth, I need to have a word with her about that. "
He sat down on the bed, sighing heavily before meeting his wife's gaze.
Aspen straddled him, taking his jaw in her hand and connecting his lips to hers. Pushing him onto his elbows, she gently sucked at his pulse point, soothing it with her tongue. He moaned loudly as she moved away to pull her shirt off.
" I have always maintained you will be the death of me, Rookie. "
"Don't you dare tell me you don't like it. How about I try to find that lingerie again? "

Prompt used: Rescuing a puppy/kitten and bringing it home for it's first holiday with them.
Quote Prompt used: You look even more beautiful in candlelight.
_______________
Catherine sat by the window, sipping her oatmilk latte as she read 'The Christmas Miracle'.
Keeping her book down, she stretched, looking out of the window, into the pretty white scenery. It was Christmas eve, and she was in the festive mood.
It sucked that Ethan had been called in for work for an emergency, but he'd promised he'd be back as soon as possible.
A sudden gust of wind slammed the window open. "Shit!" She exclaimed. Locking the window, she looked through the glass, rather disappointed and a bit scared to see a blizzard.
She curled up in her reading chair, her eyes darting back and forth between the window and her fireplace.
Boston winters were truly bleak.
She tried to call Ethan, but his phone was out of network service. Panicking slightly, she shot him several text messages, each of which failed to deliver. Keeping the phone down, frustrated, she walked downstairs to see how her daughter was doing.
She walked in on Claire playing a role-play with her Barbie dolls. "Hi, Claire." She said softly, taking a seat beside her four year old daughter.
"Mummy!" Claire greeted her brightly. "When is Daddy coming?" Catherine smiled slightly. "Dad will be home soon, love. Where's Pebbles and Jenner?"
"Oh, Jenner is sleeping in the kitchen. You wanna play doll? Pebbles just meowed at me twice when I showed her the dolls and ran off to the sitting room."
Catherine laughed. "I'll play."
She might have been engaged with her daughter's antics, but some part of her mind kept nagging her. Ethan had promised he would be back by two in the afternoon. It was seven in the evening. Where was he?Just then, the doorbell rang.
In anticipation, she rushed to the hall and quickly opened the door, the light in her eyes dying down as she saw it was only the mailman. "Thank you." She said, smiling blankly, as she took the parcel.
She took the parcel inside her daughter's bedroom, and examined it. It was enormous, carefully wrapped with red and green glitter paper. "Claire, baby, any guesses as to what's inside?"
Claire stared at the package. "That's huge, Mummy. Could it be a doll house?"
Catherine smiled. "It could be. It's from Grandma."
"Grandma? Is she and Grandpa not coming for Christmas? What about Uncle David and Auntie Enid? What about Grandpa Naveen and Grandpa Alan?"
Seeing her daughter get all riled up, Catherine laughed. "Everyone is coming tomorrow, baby. Relax. Now, shall we wait for Daddy to come home so we all can open the gift?"
Claire nodded impatiently. "But where is Daddy?!"
"He'll be home soon, love." Catherine assured her.
Just then, the doorbell rang. "That's probably Daddy." Catherine said, grinning as she got up to go open the door.
Sure enough, standing on the other side was Ethan, snow on his blazer covered shoulders and bag.
"Hi, love, how w-" Catherine stopper short when she saw it. "We have company?" She said lightly.
Ethan nodded. "Found this poor one shivering under a tree. I couldn't leave it like that."
Catherine gently took the puppy in her hands, allowing Claire to go outside and hug Ethan. "I'll warm up some milk for this little one."
Ethan nodded, kissing Catherine as he picked Claire up in his arms, entering the warm house. Locking the door, he carried Claire to her room, and gave a low whistle. "Hello, what's this?"
Claire smiled excitedly. "That's Grandma's gift!"
Ethan nodded. "I'll be back in a moment, baby."
He went into the kitchen, lit with a thousand candles, the kitchen table laid out with Christmas themed desserts.
Slowly approaching Catherine from behind, he hugged her, eliciting a delighted squeal.
"You look even more beautiful in candlelight."
Catherine giggled, spinning around in his arms to hug him back. "I missed you, handsome. I was worried sick when you weren't coming home."
"I missed you too. The goddamn network was inactive, so I couldn't even contact you to let you know I'd be late." He murmured, his lips brushing against her ear.
"Let me look at you." He said softly, taking a step back to admire her, effectively making her blush.
"Is that the shirt I gave you?" He asked quietly, smiling.
Catherine nodded, opening her white sweater to reveal the green shirt.
"You're so beautiful." He mumbled, picking her up.
Catherine laughed. "That's huge, coming from you, handsome."
Kissing him, she took the little puppy in her arms. "Can we keep him?"
Ethan smiled. "I was thinking of asking you that. Can we?"
Catherine nodded slowly. Ethan stroked the puppy's fur. "Name it."
Catherine smiled. "How about Jonah?"
Ethan simply looked at her.
"Well?" She asked, her smile faltering.
"Do you realise how sweet you are?" He asked quietly.
Smiling, she slipped an arm around him. "Jonah...." He murmured. The puppy cocked it's head, as if it was happy with the name as well.
Just then, Claire came running into the kitchen. "Open it." She whined.
Laughing, Catherine and Ethan accompanied Claire into her room.
"Who that?" Claire asked curiously, noticing the little puppy in Ethan's arms.
"Meet Jonah, baby. Your new friend."
Claire smiled. "Hello, Jonah! Oh, he is like Jenner!"
Catherine nodded, smiling. "Yes, baby."
Cuddling Jonah was enough for Claire to forget about the present.
Taking the parcel, Catherine opened the wrapper in one smooth, fluid movement.
The wrapping fell apart to reveal five separate boxes, with little name tags.
"Oh, Claire, look, Grandma even sent a box of chocolates!" Ethan said, smiling brightly.
Claire smiled. "Awww, they are Ferrero Rochers!! My favourite! Wait, Daddy. They stay here to see the gift! Pebbles! Jenner!" She yelled.
The two pets came bounding in, Jenner jumping onto Ethan as Pebbles curled up At Catherine's feet.
They unwrapped the parcel, to find a huge framed portrait, drawn by Catherine's mother herself,of Ethan, Catherine and Claire, Pebbles and Jenner on each side. "This is wonderful. Mum outdid herself." Ethan whispered.
Catherine looked at him, stunned.
"What?" Ethan asked in surprise.
"You called her...Mum." Catherine said quietly.
Ethan gently put the portrait down, and turned to hug Catherine. "C, you are the reason I believe in love. You are the reason I'm such a sap." He paused to chuckle softly into the crook of her neck. "You're my family, C. You, and your parents have been one of the best things that has ever happened to me. Daphne has been the mother I needed, I still need." He whispered.
Catherine smiled softly and stroked his hair, realising the magnitude of his feelings, the depth of his emotions. "Awww, Ethan, that's so sweet." She whispered.
A sudden squeak interrupted them. "Not fair, Mummy and Daddy! I want in on the love!"
Laughing, Catherine picked her four year old up. "Merry Christmas, Claire." She whispered.
"Merry Christmas..."

(Un)Professionalism
This one shot shows Casey is learning to deal with the history between Ethan and Harper. But, it’s not as easy as she thought it would be.
This came to my mind when I was replaying OH 3. I couldn’t believe how Harper and Ethan were acting around MC. I also couldn’t believe how they don’t really expand on that storyline unless you do the extra scene with Harper at the MRI machine. Then again, book three was just a little crazy overall 😂
Warnings: slight sexual actions

“Remember when Dr. Collins bet you wouldn’t chug that bottle of champagne?”
Casey watches as Ethan cringes at the thought, but Harper laughs and rests a hand on his forearm. Feeling her gut churn in jealousy, the redhead looks back to the file of their patient, wishing Baz was still a part of the team. At least he would acknowledge that she still exists.
“He swore I had the liquid escaping through my ears, which is anatomically impossible.”
Both of them laugh, Ethan looking as carefree as he has been for awhile.
“Look, if you two want to walk down memory lane, why don’t I go do my job.” She slaps the file down onto the table and forcefully pushes her chair back.
Without another look at either doctor, Casey strides out the doors. Before they shut behind her, she can just barely hear Ethan excuse himself and his footsteps hurrying behind her.
“Casey!” The loud whisper isn’t enough for her to even look back, but she picks up her pace, knowing his long strides will catch her easily. “Rookie, please.”
Confused anger clouds his raised tone, causing her to stop. Even though she doesn’t turn back around, she can hear his steps slow down and he takes in a deep breath before he steps in front of her. Her brown eyes focus on the tile spreading down the hall, her body tense with shame and her gut still filled with jealousy.
“Casey, what on earth is the matter?” Ethan’s large hand gently slips under her chin and lifts her face up.
He notices the guilt swimming in her eyes and everything clicks into place. “I apologize. Harper and I were being quite unprofessional.”
Silently, she closes her eyes and nuzzles into his hand before she shakes her head. “That’s not what bothered me.”
Not saying anything, he leads them into an empty patient room, shutting the door behind them. He watches her closely, analyzing her movements before she leans against the bed in the middle of the room. She crosses her arms and doesn’t look at him as her finger taps against her bicep.
“It’s your whole relationship, Ethan. We don’t have that and honestly, I don’t know if we ever will.”
Still utterly confused, he walks to her and lifts her chin again, trying to read her thoughts. “I don’t understand. What you and I have is nothing like the friendship I have with Harper. No offense intended, but I rather like it that way.”
Her eyes bore into his, the ice blue eyes hold their normal warmth she’s become accustomed to. His gentle touch is comforting her, not someone else. Right?
“But you two have history and that spark is still there, I can tell and I think Harper still feels it.” Rambling, she pushes off the bed and steps away from him, needing space to think and calm her racing thoughts.
Understanding dawns on him once again, this time he realizes exactly what is bothering her. He felt the same way during her intern year, seeing her with all those young, bright eyed men surrounding her at various times. The surgeon. The paramedic. Hell, he had even seen other attendings eye her. It was torture on him due to his own selfishness of not allowing them to become an item publicly.
“Casey, you and I are figuring this relationship out, but I can assure you, there is nothing between Harper and I.”
She settles in front of the window overlooking the parking lot, her eyes bouncing from the people to the cars peppering the asphalt.
When she doesn’t say anything, he continues, “She and I may have history, but that is all it is. I think of her as a colleague and a friend, nothing more. I know for a fact she feels the same way but I understand what you are feeling.” Slowly, he approaches her from behind, gently laying his hands on her shoulders. “If you remember correctly, I had a bout of jealousy that earned you a punishment in one of the vacant halls.”
Below his hands, the tense muscles loosen as she laughs quietly. “How did you take care of yourself after that anyway?”
Chuckling, Ethan turns her around and picks her up, allowing her legs to wrap around his waist. Stepping towards the wall, he presses her back against it, pinning her between it and his firm body. She can feel his hardness begin to grow as he presses his groin against hers. Both of them experience deja vu.
“You didn’t give me an opportunity to, so I suppose I had to imagine you as I took care of it myself.” His lips travel across her neck, his stubble tickling her soft skin deliciously. “Perhaps this time, we can take care of each other.”
Casey playfully grinds against the hard member straining against his slacks, tossing her head back against the wall at the sensation pooling in her core.
“Mmm, I think I’d like that.”
He breaks away from her neck and cups her cheek, brushing his thumb across her cheekbone. “Know that I have not been with anyone besides you since Miami.”
“Then why did it take so long for you to give in?” Her big eyes burn with curiosity.
Sighing, he looks down, “Because I could not bring myself to risk your career. At least that is what I told myself. Now, I know I told you and myself that so I could realize that taking a risk on you was not a risk at all.”
Ethan raises his eyes to meet hers again, cupping her face with both hands. “You are it for me, Casey.”
Their lips meet in an electric kiss, her hands delve into his thick curls and her legs tighten around his fit waist. A moan escapes her as his lips reach any skin he can find and as his hands reach under her scrubs, caressing her breasts through the sports bra.
“Ethan, mmm, I love you.”
He pulls away to meet her eyes and gives her a blinding smile, his hands holding her face. “I love you too, Dr. Valentine.”
This kiss they share is soft and gentle, exuding the love coursing between them. But the gasp at the door breaks the trance. The couple breaks apart, Ethan sets Casey down gently as she blushes furiously.
“Do you need something, Harper?” Ethan’s voice is steady, but his lips tremble with suppressed laughter at the shock on their colleague’s face.
Casey steps behind Ethan, hiding the silent laughter at her own embarrassment and Harper’s.
“I—uh—“ Without a coherent sentence, she turns and slams the door behind her, leaving the couple to dissolve into a mess of laughter.
As Ethan turns, he gathers the giggling redhead into his arms, holding in a tight hug. He allows himself to relax, resting his chin atop her head. “I suppose I should do some damage control.”
“Probably. At least this time you don’t have to do your own damage control.”
He releases her at that and smirks, “I would have suggested you take care of that.”
Casey leans forwards and kisses him softly, “Maybe we can arrange for some of that damage control tonight.”

How would Ethan react if your MC slapped his ass as she was passing him in the corridor?
Wrote this little ficlet in 30 minutes on a plane! Hope you enjoy ❤️
It Beats for You
Pairing: Ethan Ramsey x f!MC
Word Count: 555
Warnings; Rating: Making-out; Teen+ (to be safe)
Premise: Serena slaps Ethan's ass as he walks by, but things take a sweet turn.
Author’s Note: I hope you enjoy and thank you for reading 💖
She's hiding. In one of the many crooks in the place, feet tired and throbbing from wearing heels for too many hours; cheeks hurting from faking smiles and laughs with insipid people; mind at a standstill, desperately wanting a distraction.
As if the universe heard her, her favorite person walks past, unaware of her presence in the nook.
He's wearing a tux, custom-made of course, tailored to perfection. And boy, is he perfect.
The dark blue, nearly midnight, velvet material brings out his cerulean eyes, glowing ever brighter. The jacket fits snug around his chest and biceps, a hint of the gym honed physique peeking through; the pants are pressed to a tee, elongating his already tall frame, and cupping in all the right places.
Serena can't help the way her gaze drops low, tongue darting out to lick her lips, hand moving of its own accord, a resounding smack reverberating through the walkway.
Ethan stops dead in his tracks, taking a split second to register what just happened, before spinning on his heels and crowding into the hideout.
He invades her space, one forearm pressed against the wall above her head, the other arm wrapping around her waist, pulling her to him.
Dropping his head to her ear, he teases, "menace."
His cologne, mingled with his aftershave, is enough to make Serena weak in the knees. With the way his hot breath ghosts over the shell of her ear and how his eyes bore into her with unbridled passion, she stumbles.
Ethan's arm wraps unbelievably tighter around her, catching her, using his strong body as a net. His hand slinks down the silk material, giving her backside a squeeze.
"Two can play at this game," he whispers before taking her earlobe in his mouth.
Serena braces herself against him, both hands on his strong chest. As much as she wants to see where this game leads, she's suddenly overwhelmed with the pure adoration she has for the man whose arm's she's in.
Her hands draw up his body until they come to rest on either side of his face, gently pulling him to look at her.
Their eyes connect and her brown-green eyes search the depths of his. One hand slides down to rest over his heart and she feels it's strong rhythm beneath her fingers.
"How did I get so lucky?" She murmurs, not even aware she'd said it aloud.
The sudden change of the atmosphere surprises Ethan, but it's not unwelcome. He asks himself that exact question every single day about her.
His arm above her head lowers, the hand coming to rest atop hers, gently squeezing.
"It beats for you."
The sincerity in his words bring tears to Serena’s eyes and she swears her own heart could burst from the love she holds for him in it.
Ethan bends down, picking up her shoes that are haphazardly strewn on the ground before kissing her, sweetly, lovingly, devotedly.
He picks her up, bridal style, in one fell swoop, Serena shrieking into his mouth.
They break apart after a few languid strokes of their lips and tongues, foreheads together. "Let's go home, shall we?"
Serena nods and Ethan begins to walk out of the building.
"Can we get food first?" Serena asks, her legs swinging off the side of Ethan's arm.

They didn't like to be touched by just anyone. But that didn't mean they didn't also crave it sometimes. - Ethan Ramsey x MC
Over the years you had seen the way that Ethan had froze whenever patients had touched him after celebrating a successful diagnosis, or when he consoled them about a medical diagnosis that was beyond even the diagnostic teams capability, how even with his closest friends he seemed to close himself from physical contact. Everyone that is apart from you. His Y/N, He cared for you in a way that he didn’t even seem to understand sometimes and yet he loved and cared for you in a way nobody had ever done so before and you could see it in the way he stood just that little bit too close whenever you discussed your findings about a patient, the way he smiled just a little wider whenever you walked into his line of vision and how when it was just the two of you, how he seemed to worship every single inch of you, mind, body and soul. So when he got down on one knee and proposed to you the answer was a give in, it was so easy and simple, a definite yes to a future spent with your forever and giving comfort to a man who shied away from everyone else's comfort but your own.

Dream (Ethan x MC)
Book: Open Heart Pairing: Dr. Ethan Ramsey x Dr. Marchia Ramsey (F!MC) Premise: No matter what time it is, they’ll always find their way to love each other. Rating / Category: General / Fluff Warning(s): None Word Count: 712 words
A/N: No plot, just fluff. Seriously. No plot whatsoever. You have been warned. Super special thanks to @mvalentine for sending this cute prompt! 🤍 You’re a gem, my dear. I’m also participating in @choicesficwriterscreations Naughty and Nice event (selected prompt will be in bold).
Tumblr media
A blanket of stars covered the dark blue sky, playing a game of hide-and-seek with those who seek to spend their sleepless night in peace. Everything felt serene and quiet, away from all the mayhem that lurked in Boston. The twinkling, mischievous luminaries had invited their old friend to join them; a glowing sphere that clung on to the familiar darkness with absolute credence.
The pale crescent moon had spilled its silvery radiance on the marbled bedroom floor, helpfully guiding Marchia and ever-growing bump to their destination. At this point, it had become a tiresome routine, really, to wake up every fifteen to thirty minutes in the middle of the dark.
Not that she wants to do it every single time—God, no.
But her beautiful, humongous unborn child had kicked and pushed her poor bladder to its limits. The young diagnostician certainly knew better than to ignore the powerful urge to release that certain bodily fluid.
As if on autopilot, her restless body had forced her to get up, feet dragging to the nearest loo in the process. Her movements were instinctual, habitual—though utterly vexatious. Most days, Marchia enjoyed being pregnant. This exact moment, however, was not part of the things she relished as a pregnant lady.
After finishing her business in the bathroom, she slowly waddled to her favorite part of the house: their kitchen. Immediately after entering the beloved space, her dearest ginger tea was calling out her name, while the leftover oatmeal cookies Ethan made earlier today whispered sweet nothings to her ears.
“Bingo,” she muttered to herself.
A little midnight snack might just be the perfect answer.
Chomping down on her last cookie, Marchia finally grabbed her piping hot tea and a glass of water, then toddled straight back to their bedroom. Once she had put down her drink, she tiptoed to her Ethan’s nightstand and placed his cup.
Hands absently rubbing her swollen belly, she took in the sight of her husband in absolute tranquility and silence of their abode. Tilting his heavy head to the side, he gifted her with the slightest hint of smile; a smile as warm as sunshine on a rainy day. Genuine, unadulterated bliss—etched on the very same face of a man who once claimed that love was nothing more than some neurochemical response.
The expectant mother lowered her head gently and whispered into the shell of his ear, “Dream a little dream of me, sayang.”
Before parting ways, she quickly gave a delicate and loving kiss on Ethan’s forehead. Her soft lips touched his warm temples, and for awhile, all is right with the world. Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes and let her mind wander—counting down to the very minute she could do the same for their little angel.
Marchia walked back to her side of the bed, making sure that her husband was still sound asleep. She wiggled and outstretched her slender legs, then tucked herself inside the warm duvet. In a matter of seconds, she had snoozed to dreamland.
Little did she know that her little kiss had awoken her dashing husband.
In one swift move, Ethan turned to face her in their bed. His hand had easily found its path to her protruding abdomen, hidden under the thick cover. He carefully stroked her belly, lulling her further into a state of deep slumber.
Brilliant azure orbs looked at her such ease and love. Life was so incredibly kind—and one could even argue that life was too kind—to bless them with the biggest miracle in life. He felt a small pang in his chest as he realizes that this was his life now, his family.
And he would not trade this for anything else.
Snuggling closer to his wife, he reached out and gave featherlight kisses her on cheeks, her temples, her nose, and her lips. Unbridled happiness fill him as he watched her sleeping peacefully.
“I love you, Chia,” he murmured.
Then, he gave his final kiss to the wonderful new addition in their lives.
“And I love you too, little baby,” his soft voice fluttered around her large belly. “I won’t let anyone hurt you. You’re safe with me—with us, together.”
As his cheek pulled itself outwards, radiating his biggest smile ever, Ethan had known one thing’s for sure: he’s the luckiest man alive.

"Dr. Ramsey." Terry greeted with a brisk nod. "Sophie's finishing up with a client. You can wait for her in the back office."
The bakery manager was used to seeing the doctor stopping by at odd times throughout the week. He went about finishing up work at the front, dismissing Ethan without another thought.
"Thanks." Ethan slipped through a familiar set of double doors.
He paused at the sight of the room where Sophie created her pastry masterpieces. Many of her assistants were scurrying about, cleaning the area while boxing up various orders before the bakery closed for the evening.
A few glanced up and smiled in greeting as he passed by.
"Can I get you anything, Dr. Ramsey?" One asked before he could shut the office door.
"No thanks."
Once alone, he began to pace.
A few minutes later Sophie came in.
She leaned against the door and watched him in amusement.
"You know you can relax in here. You don't have to wait on an invitation to sit down."
He rolled his eyes in response.
"Hey," she grabbed his sleeve and pulled him close to her, "what's wrong?"
"I don't mind." She told him "I think it's really sweet that you want to do this."
"What's wrong is that you're busy and I've added more work on you." He bit out.
Ethan ran a hand through his hair in aggravation.
Ethan sighed in resignation. He slipped his arms around Sophie, knowing there was no backing out of this now. He'd already given his word.
She smiled when he placed a tender kiss to her lips.
"You know you don't have to stay late for this." He pointed out. "I can figure something else out and--"
"Shh." She pressed another kiss to his lips. "I told you I don't mind. I want to do this for your patient."
Once she felt his muscles relax some, Sophie led him back into the now empty work area.
She pulled out her sketch book, sat down on one of her stools, and motioned for him to sit next to her.
"Now then," she clicked her pen open, "tell me everything she said."
"Carol said that her daughter loves tea parties." Ethan explained. "When I asked her for more detail, she said that Anna loves the old fashioned kind, if that makes any sense."
Sophie nodded while tapping her notebook. Her eyes narrowed in thought before she started sketching. "Anything else?"
"Anna loves cookies." He slipped his phone out of his pocket. "Here's a photo of them with her tea set."
Sophie's lips curved into a soft smile. She studied the image of the mother and daughter sipping from delicate china. The colors of the tea set were muted with roses. Doilies dotted a table set for two.
Ethan cleared his throat as he too looked at the image. For some reason, Carol's yet to be defined illness and situation struck a cord within him. Her patience with the diagnostic team along with her gratefulness had driven them all to solving this medical mystery as soon as possible.
When her husband brought their little girl in to visit, that hit him harder than he expected. Six-year-old Anna reminded him a lot of how he'd been as a child. She was curious about everything and wasn't afraid to ask questions. She was also determined to solve the mystery of why her mother was not able to play with her.
If he hadn't walked in on Carol crying earlier today, he wouldn't have known that Anna's birthday was tomorrow. Before Carol became ill, she'd planned on hosting a tea party as a surprise. She was going to go all out with having it at a vintage tea room downtown and have all Anna's friends there. Her husband was now going to handle hosting it all, but Carol would miss out on seeing her daughter's expression when she saw all that had been done in her honor.
Ethan decided that they would have a surprise in Carol's hospital room before the party for Anna. After reassuring her that he'd take care of everything, he'd gathered the diagnostic team and got them involved. While everyone divided up tasks to get china and decorations, Ethan called the one he knew could really make it special.
And here she was, working hard on doing just that.
Sophie drew out some designs of heart shaped cookies. She pushed her notebook towards him for his opinion once she was satisfied with her vision coming about.
"What do you think about these?" She pointed towards each one and explained the color scheme she had in mind.
Ethan stared at them, stunned with something that would match exactly what Carol had wanted. He couldn't think of anything more to add to them.
"And, every tea party also calls for dainty cakes." She got up to retrieve a box she'd prepared the moment he first called her.
"I made petit fours this morning. I saved some for you to take to the impromptu tea party."
Ethan smiled over her thoughtfulness. He quietly watched her begin to roll out cookie dough. As she prepared a cookie sheet filled with hearts for the oven, she kept up a steady chatter of things that happened throughout her day.
Something about her voice and the repetitions of her movements made him not only relaxed but somehow, happy.
He got up and stepped behind her. Unable to say what she made him feel with her simply being her kind self, he pressed a tender kiss to the back of her neck.
Sophie's hands stilled with the warm touch of his lips. Her eyes closed as he wrapped his arms around her, holding her tight against his chest.
"Thank you." He whispered, pressing another kiss to the side of her head.
"It's no problem." She muttered, kissing his cheek.
He smiled softly at her then returned to his stool.
"How about I order us some dinner?" He offered.
"Sounds good." She placed the tray in one of her ovens.
Leaving him to it, she began to mix the royal icing to make the flowers for the cookies.
She next sat back down near him and began to pipe the various sizes of roses and leaves to place on each cookie.
Ethan watched her create each one. His mind was in disbelief over how quick and seamless she made it all look.
Sophie caught him staring at her. She winked at him, a smile playing about her lips as she continued to work.
As they waited on the cookies to cool, they ate dinner in her office. Ethan found himself once more completely relaxed as he talked to her about things going on at the hospital.
He then sat once more in silent amazement of her talent as she decorated the cookies. Each one was given a unique design. Even the piping of lace along the edges varied to make them look like crocheted doilies.
He couldn't imagine a more perfect cookie for a tea party.
Sophie stepped back to critically study her creations after a couple of hours of being hunched over.
"These look incredible." Ethan told her.
"Thank you." Sophie nodded to herself as she made certain she'd done all her ideas in her sketch book.
"Now." She told him. "We'll let these sit a little longer to finish drying and then I will box them up for you."
Sophie moved to stand between his legs. Since he was sitting, she easily looped her arms around his neck.
Ethan could see how tired she was. She'd spent the entire day decorating cakes for various receptions around the city. And yet, she hadn't even paused to offer to do this for him.
He wondered where their relationship would end up taking them. It was odd how quick he'd been to call her about this. Normally he would have handled the situation without asking anyone's opinion. He had not called her to ask if she'd make the cookies. He realized he'd called her because he wanted her input and her reassurance that he was going about this in the right manner.
How did I get so close to her so fast, he asked himself.
Sophie rested her cheek on his shoulder, sighing deeply over how good it felt to be held after a long day. She knew if they were in one of their apartments, she'd probably end up spending as much time as she could in his arms.
Ethan pressed a kiss to her forehead and simply allowed the peacefulness of the moment to seep into his bones.
"Sophie," he said, breaking the silence that had settled over them.
"Hmm?"
"Why don't you stay at my place tonight?"
Sophie lifted her head off his shoulder. "I would but I better not. I've got another early morning tomorrow."
She knew their nights spent together were anything but restful. As much as she enjoyed it, she shouldn't tempt herself into falling in with his plan. Four a.m. came much too early as it was.
"I don't mean for that," he tried to explain.
Her eyebrows lifted when he became silent once more.
"I..." He held her gaze, "I guess what I mean is, I want to be near you tonight."
"Even if I fall asleep as soon as I walk through your door?" She teased.
"Even then." He chuckled when she snuggled back into his arms.
"I'd love to." She kissed his cheek then went off to prepare a box for the cookies.
Once Sophie disappeared in a store room, it struck Ethan just how much he would love her to stay the night, even for sleeping.
And though he wasn't quite certain what to make of that revelation, he was nevertheless looking forward to figuring it out.

Since it's been an year, I thought I should share this. You know, what we don't talk about enough is that despite book 3 being a mess, there was something in Ethan's route that made me fall in love with him more!!
In book 3, you have the choice to support, or go against, or be neutral towards the decisions Ethan makes throughout the book. Also, when the whole court thing (idk you guys remember this lol) was going on, MC is called as a character witness for Ethan and you have the choice to give positive, mixed or negative testimony for him in the court. Whatever you choose, Ethan acknowledges it in the final (ouch 😔) diamond scene with him before saying I love you. The dialogues differ as the following
If you supported him + gave positive testimony
Tumblr media
If you supported him + gave negative testimony
Tumblr media
Neutral towards him + mixed testimony
Tumblr media
If you were against him + gave positive testimony
Tumblr media
If you were against him + gave negative testimony
Tumblr media
This just proves that no matter what happens, Ethan will always love MC even though they decide to go against them. He doesn't even hold a grudge, instead he says that he admires it for them being honest with him. ♥️🥺 The way, no matter what, he is proud of them, shows how much respect and admiration Ethan has for MC and vice-versa. For me, this makes their relationship more nuanced and realistic. Ethan and MC have always helped and pushed each other to grow together, there is no reservation when it comes to calling out each other and I think that's beautiful ❤❤😊

"Such a pleasant day. Spring is quite beautiful. If I get done early, I'll spend some time in the garden with Ethan," Aru thought as she walked towards her office for a meeting with the diagnostic team.
When she reached her office, she felt her throat itch and a bit sore. Fortunately, she had a few lozenges in her bag, and she popped one in her mouth before the meeting, not thinking much of it.
The following morning, at 3:00 am, Aru woke up with a blocked nose, headache, and cough.
Ethan, a light sleeper, also woke up when he heard Aru groan while trying her best to get some rest but failing, as was evident by her constant turning.
He took a minute to realise what was happening and made a cup of tea to soothe her.
"Ethan, could you please sleep in the guest room? Or let me go there? I don't want to get you infected because of me," Aru said while sipping some warm tea.
"No, honey. I'm not going to do that. I want to look after you, okay? I know how you are and that you won't look after yourself. So, let me take care of you", he replied while rummaging in their medicine kit for a Tylenol. Aru eagerly took the pill from Ethan when he found it, hoping to get some relief.
The next day, she woke up quite later than usual and panicked that she would get late for work. Just when she started to rush to get ready, Ethan chimed in, "Aru, I have requested a holiday for both of us cause you are sick and I don't want others to get infected, especially your patients. I'll stay at home for today to take care of you, my love."
"That’s very sweet of you, Ethan, but I will be fine in a day or two, I don't want you to ignore your work."
"I'm not ignoring my work by looking after you, Aru. In fact, I'm doing both."
"Okay, love, thanks a lot for taking care of me."
A while later, Aru sat down with her blanket in front of the TV while Ethan made her favourite tomato soup and watched her comfort movies, Welcome and Om Shanti Om.
After finishing her delicious soup, she went to gargle with warm salt water and a quick bath under instructions from Ethan while he made her favourite comfort food.
When she came back, Ethan gave her a cup of kadha, whose recipe he had procured from her mom on a visit.
Ethan then checked her temperature because he found her hands and forehead cold.
He realised she had a fever, so he got her some Tylenol and asked her to rest until lunch.
She protested, saying, "It's just a little fever, I'm fine. There's no need for medicine. Let my body fight it out."
"Aru, my love, you have a fever. I want you to get better as soon as possible, which won't happen if you don't take your medicine," he said.
"Okay....if you get well soon, we'll go out to eat some chaat," Ethan continued when he got no response from Aru.
"E, are you trying to bribe me? Because this is new stuff. I have only seen you do this to little kids when they don't listen."
"Well, I have to find a way for you to ingest your meds."
"You know it's nothing major, right? I'll be fine in a few hours even without the pill."
"I know that, honey. But I can't bear to see you like this, even if it is a minor thing."
"Ethan! This is nothing to worry about, and the doctor in you knows that."
"I know that very well, my darling."
"Then why are you worrying?"
"Because I hate to see you like this, in pain! I love you, Aru, and this is too much for me to bear."
On hearing this, she could barely contain his happiness and moved to kiss him, but she suddenly moved away.
"Ethan, I don't want to infect you."
"Sorry, Aru, I understand," he said, as planted a soft and assuring kiss on her forehead, "come on, let's eat Rajma Chawal."

Together.
Synopsis: The aftermath of the attack comes with a waterfall of feelings.But is it enough to stop pretending?
Ethan's POV
Category: Angsty fluff. I can never resist a happy ending
Tumblr media
Sunlight peeked through the blinds at the blissful couple nestled in sleeps abode. I was the first to stir, stretching as consciousness returned, slowly opening one eye, then another before opening both to stare at the back of the woman who occupied every inch of my soul.
Her body moved rhythmically, even breaths for which I was grateful, ever since the attack seeing her felt like mercy on my heart. I would have died inside had she not made it. I loved her, with every fiber of my being, I did. And I would show her just how much I did, every single moment that we spent together.
I smiled, closing my eyes and sleep lulled me back into its abode.
**********
"Ethan? Hey. " A gentle nudge against my shoulder followed by a kiss on my forehead roused me. I pulled her hand in mine.
"Penny."
"Wake up, sleepyhead. It's almost noon. "
" Perfect time to come back to bed. " I turned to my side, pulling her hand with me, her body following.
"Who are you and what have you done to my Ethan? "
"It's you Rookie, what are you doing to me? "
She giggled, sitting by my side, bending over me. Suddenly water slapped against my face, making me jerk back, my eyes flying open.
"Oh, sorry. "
Aspen moved her wet hair back over her right shoulder. I looked up to see her smile sheepishly at me, leaning down to peck my lips lightly. I held her against me, her bathrobe soft against my skin, not allowing the kiss to end. Her lips moved in a perfectly synchronized manner, tasting of honey. Needing air, we broke away.
I laid back, staring at her as she brushed my hair back, her fingers running through them, instantly relaxing me.
"Why are you looking at me like that? "
"Like what? "
"With that wierd look in your eyes. " I couldn't in that moment fathom how I had ended up finding her, how I would treasure her forever.
"I was just thinking"
"About? "
I wasn't gonna tell her just yet but she meant everything to me, how I would never hurt her again. I flipped us over so that she was under me. I hovered over her, kissing her once more.
She smirked at me.
"As much as I would like to, you have a shift. At a hospital you work at, as a doctor. " She teased.
**********
Reluctantly, I picked up my belongings and car keys, giving Penny a lingering kiss, hugging her tightly.
"Someone's all lovey dovey today. " She pecked my clothed shoulder. Ignoring her astute observation, I quickly steered the conversation in a different direction
"When are you coming in again? "
"At around 7. I have a night shift today."
Noticing my slightly deflated look, she chuckled. I bade her goodbye, walking out to another day at Edenbrook.
The day continued like always, annoying interns, diagnostic cases and a couple of hours at the clinic. It was time for my shift to end, packing up my stuff I headed out, popping into the resident quaters to greet Aspen where I was informed she wasn't in yet.
I called her but she didn't answer, which was usual, and utterly annoying. I walked out to get into my car, winding through Boston traffic when the car bluetooth pinged with Penny's name.
"Hey. Where..." Her hoarse gasp shut me up.
"Ethan. Where are you? " Her laboured breath hitched as she gasped into the receiver.
My heart clenched with fear, breaking into a cold sweat I calmed my rising anxiety.
"Darling? What's wrong? "
"I need you to come quick. "
"Hold on, I'm almost there. Just hold on. " I prayed and begged her.
********
"Rookie "
"ROOKIE" Jenner barked frantically, running towards me.
"Here." A whisper called out to me from the kitchen floor.
I knelt down by Aspen's weak form, helping her into a sitting position, supporting her weight. She had a pretty bad bruise on the side of her shoulder, already turning black and blue. Jenner stood by my side, worried at the scene before him. She looked up at me and smiled weakly, trying to put on a brave face so I wouldn't worry.
" Don't worry, I just felt dizzy and blacked out. I hit the counter on my fall." She moved her arm, wincing.
"It's probably due to the anemia. You'd warned me it was a common after effect of the toxins I was exposed to. "
" You're right. I'll drive you to the hospital and get you set up. " She nodded as I picked her up.
*********
I pulled the car into the parking space, getting my seatbelt off and ready to open the door when she stopped me.
"Wait! "
"What? " I scanned her, noticing the alarmed look in her eyes.
"You can't take me inside and somebody might see me get off from your car. Drop me at the back entrance and then go home. Your shift's done, it will be suspicious if you return five minutes after I'm here. "
"Have you lost it! I'm going nowhere. "
"But, Ethan everyone will know.. about Us. " My insides fluttered at her words.. Or one word in particular. Us. I didn't care anymore.
"Then let them. " I looked at her earnestly. The way her eyes lit up at my decision had me wishing I had done it long ago.
"Let's go in, together. " I offered.
"Okay." She pushed the seatbelt off as I opened the door for her and helped her out. I steadied her, walking her in through the hospital doors.
**********
"Dr Ramsey! Um.. You're gonna..? " Marlene startled seeing me walk into Penny's room.
"Yes Marlene, I'm gonna sit by my sick girlfriend for the entire night. "
"Of course. " Marlene smiled a genuinely happy smile, leaving as she completed her last call, ready to hand over the floor to the next nurse on duty and head home.
The hospital was in quite a stir now. Hushed whispers and shocked indiscreet looks, everyone trying their best to hide their surprise and failing. I sighed, pinching the bridge of my nose, we weren't exactly parading being together, we just weren't hiding it anymore. I was tired of it.
Knowing how precious time was, knowing how much of it was already gone, not knowing how much was left, a chill ran down my spine just thinking about having regrets. This... Us it wasn't something to be kept like dirty secret. I wanted people to know I loved this woman and she deserved nothing less than that.
I sat lost in my thoughts when a small voice called out to me.
"Ethan."
"Rookie, hey, what's wrong? "
"Nothing.Could you just get the bed into a sitting position. " I turned the lever, pushing her slightly up.
"Thank you. For tonight. "
"What do you mean? "
Her eyes turned warm and glazed, she had beautiful eyes, the chocolate orbs stared at me with so much understanding, I couldn't help but fall in love all over again. Man, I had it bad.
"For showing how much this means to you. Us"
I simply kissed her forehead, words leaving me. I was done living safe. This was definitely a risk but when it came to her...She was worth every risk in the world.

Take Me Home Tonight - Ethan Ramsey x MC
Tumblr media
Tiffany doesn’t go on a bender often. But when she does, it’s always a wild ride—especially for a certain grumpy doctor.
Warnings: language, mentions of mature themes (excessive alcohol consumption and its consequences, adult situations)
Rating/category: Teen+ / fluff
A/N: Ethan’s reaction to Tiffany saying ‘I have a boyfriend’ when he tries to hug/kiss her because she’s wayyy too hammered @mvalentine ‘s genius ask inspired me to respond with this little thing—thank you, sis, ILY ❤️
My girl is an unpredictable drunk when she goes overboard, so that scenario is right up her alley ksbksbksb I had so much fun while plotting this, and it was really fulfilling to actually write something after a very long drought 🫶
___
Midnight cloak enshrouds Boston, its thick, smoky darkness is pierced by vibrant lights playing hide-and-seek in the shadows.
The blurred mass of colors gleaming outside the window steals Ethan’s focus for one split second, then loses miserably against the enchanting figure sleeping on his shoulder in the backseat of a spacious sedan.
A small, loving smile illuminates his face when he peeks at Tiffany curled up to his side. Her make-up remains impeccable, slightly parted lips tease him with his favorite rosy shade, a few strands of shiny onyx locks tickle her cheek as though by design—moderately messy for aesthetic purposes, naturally.
The only detail betraying her current state is the unmistakable whiff of vodka she must’ve spilled on her black bodycon dress back in the fancy watering hole Lahela has deemed worthy of his approval tonight.
Still, to him she’s always the most dazzling rose in a vast garden of peculiarity. The river of alcohol coursing through her veins, clouding her perfectly sound judgement and (quite possibly) inspiring madness, could never change that.
His heart tightens distinctly, clearly pleased that its owner is back where she belongs—in his arms.
He was helping his dad with a minor house renovation for only three days, certain that the short separation wouldn’t affect him. Those three unbearably exhausting days have proven how wrong he was. How terribly a convert like him can miss another person.
In a sudden surge of affection, his arm wraps around Tiffany’s sylphlike silhouette, pulling her closer. The gentle brush of his fingers running down her spine makes the bubble of silent adoration burst with no warning.
„Fuck…” Tiffany mutters, her eyes scan the car as she blinks muzzily. „Where are we going?”
„Home.” His warm, steady voice a messenger of a smile, guiding her through the fog of her blurry reality. „Just close your eyes and breathe.”
Tiffany nods, seemingly relieved, her heavy lids follow the directions as if Ethan’s baritone were a spell-casting device. She snuggles closer, purring quietly.
Unfamiliar with the intricacies of her inebriated mind, he continues the caress, hoping to transfer the comfort she needs through his touch.
Much to his utter bewilderment, the result is entirely opposite: Tiffany jolts away with a horrified grimace, throwing arms in the air in what seems to be an act of defence.
„Whoa, whoa…Keep your hands off me!” She fumes, unfiltered rage flashing in her emerald eyes too baffling for a quick assessment.
At that, the cab driver clears his throat, shooting Ethan with a lethal glare through the rear-view mirror.
Can this absurd situation get any worse? The answer is always: yes.
Ethan’s first attempt at damage control is blocked before he manages to even utter her name.
„Tiff—”
„I have a boyfriend!” She interjects harshly, stretching out each word, the offence in her tone as dominant as her determination to keep her drowsy eyes open. „He’s going to freak the fuck out when he finds out some hunk is taking me home.”
Manifesting her panic-induced disgust, Tiffany immediately sweeps away from him. Slack-jawed, Ethan observes her delightfully clumsy moves with barely concealed fascination, unsure whether to laugh or interrupt this drunken performance.
„Some hunk?” Having no time to waste, he chooses the latter, though his question is wholly ignored much like his presence at the moment.
„I’ll fucking kill Bryce.” She mumbles to herself while rummaging through her sparkly, shell-shaped handbag.
A wave of relief washes over Ethan; his decision to come back to Boston earlier than planned proves to be one of the best he’s ever made. Her drunken stupor and the effort to act conscious may appear cute, but hammered Tiffany is a disaster waiting to happen and needs to be tackled and protected at all costs.
Luckily, he knows just the way to escort her to safety. Not without self-sacrifice, of course—the task requires unlimited patience, and that is a virtue Ethan has failed to possess, making years of diligent practice look like an amateur attempt.
But he’s always willing to be patient for her. Even if her liquor-fogged mind plays a nasty trick on him.
„What are you doing?” He frowns in puzzlement just when she takes out her phone and waves it in front of his face, dangerously close to breaking his nose in the process.
„Calling my man.”
The nonchalant announcement is followed by furious tapping and swiping, lip-biting and a string of muffled curses. Then, eventually, Ethan’s pocket lights up and a loud ringtone conquers the comically threatening silence hanging between them.
The sound confuses Tiffany even further, twisting her angelic features yet again.
„Uhh, why is your phone ringing?” Her furrowed brow and narrowed eyes almost push Ethan over the edge, but he manages to suppress a grin and maintains his infamous poker face.
As collected as a world-beating diagnostician delivering the final diagnosis to his patient, he sighs heavily before revealing the truth to his plastered girlfriend. „You’re calling me. I am your man.”
Predictably, his empty assurance is not enough to convince the ever stubborn Miss Addams.
With a shake of her head, she corrects him, each word separated by unintentionally suspenseful pause as she weighs the meaning behind them. „No, no, Ethan is in Providence.”
„No, he isn’t—not anymore.” The corners of his mouth quirk up, but she’s too distracted by her unreliable senses to notice the slight change in his demeanor. „You’d have known if you had checked your messages in the middle of wreaking havoc with Scalpel Jockey and Varma.”
At last, her scattered attention shifts to Ethan; curious eyes investigate his face despite the odds far from being in her favor. The conclusion she comes to, however, seems to be in his: she looks him up and down, something akin to recognition softens her expression, the glint of fondness in her eye making his lips twitch.
Nevertheless, Ethan prepares for another plot twist, half-expecting an inventive panoply of slurred insults. Instead, Tiffany crawls back to him, holding his gaze with tangible intensity, her boozy grin widening his smirk effortlessly.
„Well, you certainly sound like him.” She admits, the tone of her voice still rather unconvinced. Her dense lashes flutter at him for a long, hypnotizing moment, as if searching for something only her brilliant, intoxicated mind can access. Then, merely a second later, she ducks lower to nuzzle his neck. „But you smell different.”
Ethan can’t hold his unassuming amusement any longer; he lets out a laugh, intent to ignore the arousing sensation of her skin against his. „I forgot my cologne, so I chose to use the one aunt Dina gave me last Christmas.”
She giggles in tune, her slender fingers now dragging along his beard with newfound adoration, piercing emeralds half-shut as she pulls his face close to hers.
„Never wear it again.” Her whisper dives right in his mouth, their noses pressing against one another, lips all but brushing. „It smells like a suburban dad going through a mid-life crisis.”
„Duly noted.” He responds, putting everything at risk by tucking a stray lock behind her ear and letting his hand rest on her neck. „It’s Alan’s signature fragrance now anyway.”
Tiffany doesn’t flinch, which is undeniably a good sign, even if she doesn’t seem to listen to what he says.
„I’d still let you fuck me, you know.” She blurts out confidently, perhaps a tad too loud, absolutely unashamed by another glare from the concerned driver.
The ride takes a turn Ethan has definitely seen coming, but it doesn’t make anything easier for him. He draws in a deep breath, his fingers now freely raking through her voluminous hair. „We’ll get back to the matter when you’re sober.”
Her gaze meets his and the air instantly thickens, the overfamiliar fire erupting for just a second before Tiffany rolls her eyes in surprisingly well-received defeat. „Fair enough.”
Regardless of her reaction, the troublemaker minx in her cannot be underestimated, and Ethan is soon to be reminded of that fragile piece of information.
„Want to know a secret?” Her alcohol-induced seriousness takes charge, unabashedly flirting with him when Tiffany wets her lower lip. He nods, following the sinful flick of her tongue, but remains fully alert. „I’m gone. Far gone.”
The confession elicits a generous scoff leaving his mouth despite his best effort to keep his saint-worthy composure. „That’s hardly a secret, Tiffany.”
A peal of her melodious laughter fills the confined space, its rich sound—his favorite sound—almost reassuring their third wheel that whatever is happening between the middle-aged grump and his gorgeous, well-oiled companion is fully consensual.
She pats his shoulder, laughing like there’s no splitting headache rushing to behead her promptly. „You really are my boyfriend.”
„A shocking discovery, but I’m glad I managed to pass this rigorous test.”
The mockery is greeted with a sloppy kiss, her starved lips crashing into his with irresistible force, finding the perfect rhythm almost instantly. His strong hand travels to the nape of her neck, keeping her steady as she melts into him, allowing him to taste the night.
Her small hand wandering down his belt brings the blissful moment to a halt.
„Give me your hand.” She orders, and he complies as if under duress, watching her guide him under the sleek fabric of her dress, smoothly gliding up her inner thigh.
He’s convinced that his willpower is stronger than the temptation, though Tiffany makes it unfairly hard to follow his own rules.
„Here’s another secret: I’m wearing underwear. Like the good girl that I am.” Exulting in the achievement that is rendering Ethan Ramsey speechless, Tiffany bites her lip provocatively, moving his hand between her legs to provide proof.
He quickly gathers himself, almost choking on his own words. „It’s bold of you to assume that this flimsy lace is going to grant you a place on the nice list.”
„Come on.” She pleads, her excitement inspired by a sudden outlandish idea helps Ethan’s cause; her hands fall on his shoulders just when his own is set free. „Tell me I’m your good girl.”
Ethan scoffs internally. She’s not a girl anymore, and certainly not a good one. But at that precise moment, staring into his soul while battling the urge to pass out on him, she might as well be anything she wishes to be.
She’s everything to him.
He strokes her cheek with utmost gentleness, an impish smile exploding on his face. „You’re my good girl.”
Incredibly pleased to hear the praise, Tiffany sighs happily, throwing herself into his embrace. „Did you come back earlier because you missed me too much?”
„Something of the sort.”
She cosies up to Ethan, whispering I missed you like crazy against his shoulder. His arms offer a shelter from the overwhelming sensations attacking her tired body.
„You should get used to this. I drank so many shots I’ll probably die tonight.”
„No, you won’t.” He assures, brushing her face with the back of his hand. This time, his caress is most welcome. „I’ll take care of you and your colossal hangover in the morning.”
„Can you start now and stop the world from spinning? Your handsome face is…Blurry. As. Fuuuuck. No wonder I didn’t recognize you.”
„Close your eyes and think of the bed. We’re almost there.”
„Almost there.” She parrots, leaning into Ethan’s touch like a spoiled kitten, then lets out a long yawn.
„Almost home.”
His addition sobers Tiffany for a second. „But…I am home.”
Her watery gaze finds his as she takes his hand and pecks on his wrist. „You’re my home.”
Flooded with sheer affection, Ethan’s chest rises and falls to the beat of her content heart, the irreplaceable feeling spreads like a soothing warmth of a life-affirming summer breeze.
He plants a soft kiss on her temple, his adoring smirk an invisible imprint of his devotion on her skin. „And you are mine.”
The brightest smile beams across her plushy lips in the most sincere reply. Her eyes slam shut again, and this time she doesn’t put up a fight to stay awake.
Just as Tiffany slowly drifts off again, only two blocks away from their apartment, she begins to hum a well-known melody, slurring the lyrics with only one of the lines coherent enough for Ethan to decode.
To die by your side is such a heavenly way to die.

The early morning wind coloured Ethan's cheeks in a rosy blush, Jenner skipping along his side.
Boston was always quiet at four in the morning, save the occasional car or pedestrian.
He walked around the park, feeling the wind and the sun, and often stopping to pet Jenner.
Just then, something triggered Jenner, for he shook himself off of Ethan's grasp, and bounded into the bushes.
"Jenner! Hey, Jenner!" The young resident yelled. "Dammit."
He quickly followed the leash, and found Jenner on top of a laughing young lady.
"Jenner!" He exclaimed, pulling him away from the girl, as he went red.
"I'm so sorry." He offered, looking slightly mortified, as he offered the girl his hand.
Hardly had their hands touched that Ethan felt a spark, and almost withdrew his hand.
The girl got up, and smiled.
Ethan's breath hitched.
She was lovely.
Blonde-brown hair sparkling in the wintry sunlight, her cheeks rosy and green eyes sparkling. She must've been at least 5'8", and her smile radiated love.
"He's an absolute love. What's his name?" The girl cooed, sitting down on the grass, as Jenner slowly approached her and snuggled into her lap.
Ethan smiled. "Jenner."
An amused smile tugged at her lips. "Seriously? You named her after Kylie?"
Ethan went a bright red. "What-no!" He spluttered. "Edward Jenner was an English physi-"
The girl cut him off, laughing. "I know who Edward Jenner is. But how about you? Got a name, stranger?"
She pat the grass beside her, and Ethan took his spot. "Ethan Ramsey." He said, smiling.
The girl's jaw went slack. "Ethan Ramsey? As in Junior Resident of Edenbrook's famed Diagnostics Team Ethan Ramsey? As in Lesch-Nyhan Syndrome researcher Ethan Ramsey? As in Diagnostic Principles author Ethan Ramsey?!"
Ethan smiled awkwardly. "I assume you're in the medical field."
The girl stared at him incredulously, her hand working on Jenner's fur on autopilot. "You're kidding."
Ethan raised an eyebrow. "What gave you that idea?"
The girl stared. "So, what you're saying is, I'm sitting beside the person for whom I am enduring med school?"
Ethan chuckled quietly. "Which medical school, may I ask?"
The girl smiled. "JHU."
Ethan nodded appreciatively. "Which year, Ms....?"
"Catherine Valentine, final year. I'm actually....applying to Edenbrook."
Ethan nodded thoughtfully. "I assume internal medicine, considering you read Diagnostic Principles?"
Catherine nodded, then suddenly smiled. "There's this cute puppy café down the block. Can I interest you in joining me for some coffee and cuddles?"
Ethan smiled. "I suppose...."

Ethan Ramsey x M!MC
Book: Open Heart
Pairing/Characters: Ethan Ramsey x Lars Valentine (M!OC)
Rating: G
Warnings: Homophobia
Category: fluff
Words:
Summary: Lars is about to meet the parents of the love of his life. There’s something Ethan forgot to mention to them.
A/N: Just wanted to write a quick little fluff oneshot
“I’m so excited to meet the people who raised such a well rounded, handsome, young man!” Lars purrs as he places a gentle hand on his taller boyfriend’s shoulder.
“Well if you like me I’m sure you’ll despise them.” Ethan teases with a faint smile.
“Come on they can’t be that bad.” Lars rolls his gray eyes.
“Oh trust me, my love, they’re intolerable.” Ethan sighs dragging his large hands across his face.
“I’m not worried. They’ll love me! Older people always seem to take a fancy to me.” He says with faux cockiness as he embellishes his statement with a flick of the wrist.
“Is that so? That must explain why I like you then. Because I’m just so old.” Ethan chuckles as he rolls his eyes.
“Aww! I love my little old man!” Lars coos as he pinches Ethan’s cheeks.
Silence falls before Ethan speaks.
“On a more serious note. How did you come out to your parents?” He asks with a frown.
“Well, my parents said they always suspected I wasn’t like the other boys I grew up with. We kinda just had a mutual agreement to not really mention it, I guess. Not that it would have bothered them. I’m fortunate enough to have understanding, excepting parents. There wasn’t really a point until I started dating. Then I confirmed their suspicions by bring my boyfriend over for dinner one night.” Lars explains.
“What about you?” Lars finishes.
“I guess it will be the same was as you.” Ethan says biting his lower lip.
“It ‘will be’? Ethan…they don’t know?” Lars asks in a concerned, hushed tone.
“Not yet.” He says as his breathing starts to get faster.
“Ethan…” Lars frowns.
“I’m sorry, Lars. I should have told you. Asked if you were okay with being part of this. I shouldn’t have dragged you into this.” He sighs deeply.
“Don’t apologize. I want to help you. But it makes it a lot easier for both of us if you talk to me.”
“Lars, what would I do without you?” Ethan starts to perk up.
“Come on, Eth, let’s go do this together. Before we go in, take a deep breathe and remember I love you and I’m so proud of you for doing this. I’ll be right next to you every step of the way.”
Ethan straightens his back, holds his head up, brushes his suit, and takes Lars’ hand in his before marching towards the front door of his childhood home.
I wrote this in kinda a rush. It’s sloppy and short but I still think it’s cute. I’ve never written for these characters (or really any same sex couple) before and I’m still getting use to Tumblr so forgive me for any mistakes. I felt it was my obligation to add at least one piece of EthanxM!MC fan fiction to this world.

Drained (3/?)
Pairing: Ethan Ramsey x f!MC
Word Count: 2.3k
Warnings; Rating: Angst; General
Premise: Serena makes moves and Ethan finds out.
Author’s Note: I'm sorry ☠️ I hope you enjoy and thank you for reading 💖 **HSM reference included
Serena comes to a halt in the middle of a crosswalk. Rebecca continues to lay out the terms of the contract, but time stands still as Serena drones out, shocked.
An offer.
This is exactly what she wanted. A dream come true for her younger self.
So why does she feel so conflicted?
~~~~~~
Serena hangs up the phone just as she’s stepping into her apartment, all of her roommates, along with Bryce and Rafael, are gathered in the living room, watching a movie.
She stands at the edge, absorbing the laughter and camaraderie filling the space. Silently taking in what she would be giving up.
Although becoming Head of the Diagnostics Team has been far from what she expected, she’s comfortable here — it’s familiar. She knows the ins and outs of Edenbrook now, a far cry from the intern that got lost in the hallways. She has an incredible friend group that would drop everything if she needed them. She knows the language, the culture, the unspoken rules and etiquette.
She’d go from a three hour flight home to being across the ocean. She’d miss birthdays, holidays, and impromptu get-togethers. She'd miss the mundane things: days out in Boston Common, going on shopping trips with the girls, getting lost in the farmer's markets.
But this was something she had wanted her entire life. What she’d worked nearly a decade for.
By everyone else’s standards, for anyone on the outside looking in, she’s flourished in her three and half years at Edenbrook. Yet she feels like a trained falcon: tethered and only able to fly when told how high and how far.
She owes it to herself to make her dream a reality, to spread her wings, and not only fly, but soar.
Her eyes grow misty the longer she stands there, contemplating all of the things that would change. It isn’t until she’s deep in her spiral that Elijah calls out her name.
“Serena, are you okay?”
The backlight from the television reflects the tears in her eyes. “I’m really gonna miss you guys.”
Understandably, she’s met with a room full of confused expressions. While they know about her struggles as Head of the Diagnostics Team, they don’t know about the events of the last forty-eight hours.
Serena walks towards them, plopping down in the middle of the floor, and begins to fill them in.
By that night, Serena had signed a year-long contract, shipping out in six weeks.
~~~~~~
The next few days are a blur: making phone calls to potential movers and storage unit companies and having conversations with her new team.
It seems as though Ethan finally took the hint that she wanted space. His interactions are gentle, but few and far in between.
Serena knows it’s not fair to keep him in the dark, but she’s still too hurt and overwhelmed to bring herself to do the right thing.
Ethan interprets her space as her just needing to work through it first, that she’d be ready to talk soon.
How wrong he was.
~~~~~~
“Great work today, Carrick. There might be some hope left for you after all.”
Tobias chuckles.
“Gotta keep the lead on her toes!” He does a little boxing move, causing Serena to laugh. “This will be my team before you know it.”
Serena sobers at that comment, remembering the big news she has yet to share with anyone other than her family and roommates.
Tobias notices the sudden change in energy, a cloud of sadness settling over them.
“Tobias… take a seat. There’s something we need to discuss.”
His brows furrow and his head tilts to the side in confusion as they both take a seat at the round table. Serena huffs out a long breath, sitting with her back ramrod straight, hands clasped in front of her. Any and all traces of joviality are gone.
“This should be your team."
“Serena, I was just kidding. You know I respect you as Hea—”
“I know. This has nothing to do with that. I wasn't ready then and I'm not ready now."
“You’re doing a fanta—”
Serena's hand shoots up to interrupt him.
“It's okay. I know you see the way I’m being treated and have heard some… not very nice things said about me.”
“Well, yeah, but they’re all just boomers who have a stick wedged so far up their asses that they’ve forgotten what it’s like to be a decent human being.”
Serena snorts. “While that may be true, you know it’s more than that.”
Tobias leans forward, placing a hand over Serena’s that she hasn't stopped wringing.
He looks at her earnestly. “You are doing an amazing job. And when have you ever cared what other people think? I say fuck ‘em.”
“If only it were that easy.”
She brings a hand out from under his, placing it on top.
“It has been made very clear, time and time again, that I am not wanted here.”
“That’s not tru—”
“I’ve accepted another position.”
Tobias blinks rapidly at Serena.
“With Médecins Sans Frontières.”
His jaw goes slack.
“In Myanmar.”
At this, Tobias’ eyes look like they’re about ready to pop out of his head.
“No.”
“What?”
“I reject this.”
“Tobias… This is something I need to do.”
“You’re an invaluable member of this hospital! Anyone who means anything knows that — I know that, the DT knows that, the Chief—”
At that, Serena scoffs and rolls her eyes.
“No, he doesn’t.”
“What are you ta—”
“I’ve already signed the contract. I’ll deploy in five weeks.”
“What?”
A booming voice echoes around the room. Serena jumps backwards, extricating her hands from Tobias’, and looks at the floor.
This is so not the way I wanted to tell him.
Serena gives Tobias a curt nod, letting him know that it’s okay for him to leave the room.
“Page me if you need anything,” he whispers before exiting.
“Serena, what the hell is going on?”
“Ethan, sit down.”
“No! I’m not going to ‘sit down.’ Tell me what’s going on right now.”
Serena sighs and pinches the bridge of her nose. “I’ve accepted a position with Médecins Sans Frontières in Myanmar. I start in five weeks, so you can count this as my four week notice.”
“Is this one of those pranks from social media that I don’t understand?”
“Do I look like I’m joking?”
“Well, you must be. You were just made Head of the Diagnostics Team! This is your dream job.”
“It was. It’s not anymore.”
“Oh, but moving to Myanmar is?!”
Serena gets out of her chair. “You’re missing the point.”
“Then enlighten me!”
Ethan knows he needs to get a grip and control his emotions, but the utter fear coursing through him is paralyzing.
“I have been so busy supporting you in the last three years that I lost sight of myself.
“And I’m not saying it’s your fault, it’s not, I happily put you first. I wanted to put you first. With Naveen, Louise, Edenbrook possibly shutting down, everything.
“But I had always dreamed of leaving our planet a better place than we’d found it. Of traveling the world while volunteering with different organizations… Did you even know that?" Serena whispers.
“You’re making a difference here.”
Serena shakes her head furiously. “It’s not the same! Life kept getting in the way and I lost myself in the process, don't you see?!”
“So what?! You felt sorry for me, is that it?! You saw me as some pet project — someone you could fix and mold into your perfect vision, so you stayed. My savior."
The word drips with disdain, mockery, disgust.
Ethan expects Serena to yell obscenities at him, but when she speaks, eyes locked on his, she's deathly calm.
Which causes Ethan to become even more frantic.
"I never wanted to save you. You were never broken, not to me. The things you see as flawed and jagged all fit together perfectly to create you.
"'The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.' And you, as a whole, as your entire being, is the man I fell in love with.
"But my love for you has nothing to do with the struggles I've faced in my short tenure as lead.
"I've done my absolute best to carry this team to new heights, to carry on the legacy and the mission. But it's become practically impossible to do when everyone in this hospital constantly undermines me, questions my competence, and makes bets on when I'll fail."
"Not everyone. I don't—"
Ethan is interrupted by a barking laugh of disbelief.
"It seems you've already forgotten, so let me remind you."
~ 2 Months Ago ~
Serena exhaustedly walks through the door of Ethan’s apartment, the tail-wagging greeting of Jenner always a welcome, and much needed, dose of serotonin.
Ethan follows closely behind the golden retriever, greeting Serena with a lopsided grin and kiss.
They have a nightly routine whenever she stays over, which is more often than not nowadays, and tonight is no different.
Ethan notices that Serena is quieter than usual as they go through their ritual. He doesn’t bring it up, but keeps a close eye on her, ready to talk if and when she feels ready.
Cuddled up on the couch after dinner, watching some brain-numbing show, is when Serena decides it's a good time. She pushes herself off of Ethan’s chest and sits criss-cross applesauce as she turns to face him. Her hands are in her lap, fidgeting in nervousness, internally trying to hype herself up.
Ethan places one hand over hers in a reassuring gesture, patiently waiting for her to speak.
“I’ve, uh—” Serena clears her throat. “I’ve been having some management challenges. Senior personnel in other departments have created a hostile work environment that isn’t letting me adequately step into the role as Head of the Diagnostics Team.
“There is no level of trust and this is shown day in and day out, in any decisions I make; I receive constant pushback, refusal to cooperate, and at times, am completely ignored.”
Serena’s heart is hammering in her chest and her palms are sweaty as she waits with bated breath for Ethan’s response.
“Tension is never one-sided. Be careful and cognizant of how you are treating others as well.”
Serena is taken aback. “That’s not me and you know it. There was practically no handover period, let alone adequate training. I was left to my own devices. Everyone assumed I would ‘figure it out,’ but it seems to have been forgotten by literally everyone that I don’t have anything to base this on in order to ‘figure it out!’”
Ethan sighs and pinches the bridge of his nose. “Is that what this is about? I can’t just give you handouts because you’re my girlfriend.”
“When have I ever asked you for a ‘handout?’” Serena stands from her spot on the couch. “Why are you being so unsupportive? Don’t join the ranks of the people who think I slept my way to the top,” Serena says, a challenge in her tone.
Ethan is stunned into silence, bewilderment in his eyes.
The tension between them fills the penthouse, engulfing them in a silent standoff, neither backing down.
Until Ethan says something that completely breaks Serena’s resolve.
“Maybe you’re not mature enough to handle this yet. Perhaps I should have given the team to Tobias.”
Ethan’s statement is coming from a place of hurt, her previous flippant remark cutting deep, as if his greatest fear concerning their relationship is becoming a reality. But it is also coming from a place of mentorship, invoking the “tough love” tactic he is so renowned for. The tone reminiscent of the very first day they met, following the thoracotomy in the waiting area.
Tough love that pushes her to be better, to reach the staggering heights he knows she’s capable of, to fulfill her full potential.
But all Serena wishes for is the floor to open up and swallow her whole. She wishes she hadn’t said anything at all, that there was a time machine that would take her back. Because how foolish of her to assume that Ethan could set aside his role as Chief to be the loving and supportive boyfriend she needed, not only in this moment, but also in the past four months.
"You single-handedly tore a wound that I've been bleeding from ever since. I wasn’t confiding in you as Dr. Harlow; I was confiding in you as Serena. As a woman who, in that moment, needed the man she loved to love her.
Ethan is utterly horrified by the conversation from a couple months back and he grows ever more appalled with himself as Serena continues to put her feelings into words — yes, taking over as Chief was a bigger task than he had anticipated, but how could he not have noticed her cries for help?
*"What about us?"
Of all the thoughts and emotions swirling within him, this is the only one Ethan cares about right now.
“What about everything we’ve been through?” Ethan presses.
"You told me that you don't need me to take care of you. I realize now that I threw myself on the fire to keep you warm, but you'd say that you never asked me to. So I'll keep myself warm from now on."
“What am I supposed to do? I don’t want to lose you.”*
The words come out jumbled, rushed beyond measure, as if they'd be lost to time forever if Ethan didn't get them out right that instant.
His heart is beating like a hummingbird's wings, but it stops dead in the next second.
"You've been too distracted to realize that you've already lost me a long time ago.
But you got what you wanted after all — this is Tobias' team now.”
