Opinion thus-far on Baldur’s Gate 3 Romances: a Pros and Cons list

(please note the ‘opinion’ part, and that many of the cons would be something I’d enjoy in the context of storytelling.  Just not IRL.)

Astarion

Pros:

Just all around delightfully unhinged

Romance will definitely bring the angst

That thing where he says one word of a sentence with absolutely vicious malice like he’s about to lose control and possibly murder everyone.  A+ sexy.

Unabashedly flamboyant, but with some real gremlin energy

Best laugh

Cons:

If you help him fulfill his dreams he is highly likely to murder you.  Or, trap you in a gilded cage while he murders everyone else

Prettier than you and he knows it

Probably gives the worst hugs

Ex issues

Mean (affectionate)

Pros:

Best at sarcasm, would be fun to go out and judge people with

It feels extremely rewarding when you can get her to smile and open up, and when she calls you ‘friend’ it’s the best.

Totally soft on the inside behind that spiky shell, you know she is

Cons:

No memories means ex issues aren’t off the table

Personality perhaps subject to change

Gets mad when you interrupt ogre sex

Romance as presented seems least romantic so far (may change!)

Pros:

Definitely gives the best hugs

Very mellow and un-jealous sort of guy, despite all the baggage

Books, cats, nice wine, fancy baths- he knows how to have a good time

Hopeless romantic

Very comfortable voice to listen to, which is good because some say he’s still talking to this day

Cons:

Hopeless romantic

Pros:

The most fun to party with but will still probably wake up with all your blood and/or organs

Dedicated, likes kids, mostly good morals

Ongoing ex issues seem more magical than emotional which is a nice change?

Charming bravado and enthusiasm, even if the enthusiasm for murderous ramapages can be a little much

Doesn’t mind you carrying around his eyeball

Cons:

Pros:

Speaks her mind and goes for what she wants (you)

You can tell she’s probably pretty insecure deep down which makes her less unpleasant to be around

Probably would step on you if you asked

Big sword but also big brain

Cons:

Mean (derogatory)

Way too intense sometimes like you’d expect to wipe her spit off your face when she talks

Probably constantly insulting you in her language, even during sex

No ex issues!
