Beating Fascists - One Bet at a Time

Ok Kidz .  New season and it is all kicking off and not just on the pitch . Brexit Bollix is turning ugly. Stephen Yaxley-Lennon is out of prison and will be aiming to to make the Fash a force on the streets. He now has some US backing via Steve Bannon who incidentally has been in contact with Gobshite Boris Johnson and Michael Gove . Labour is in  an anti-semitism crisis and don’t even get me started on Trump. Think I need to rapidly move onto to Football . As usual we will be following the IceMan philosophy of ante post bets on English and Scottish Divisions . All bets are singles no multiples/accumulators. Idea is to have teams who are competitive and maintain our interest throughout the season. Inevitably some will have shockers but that is okay as 2 to 3 winners will produce a profit . Once the money is down we let it play out . No topping up , no chasing losses and no coupons. Here we go . I am going to totally ignore the Premier league . It’s entertaining but I hate the hype. Can’t see any value or angles to exploit so leaving it alone. All selections are based on last years placing, transfer activity and pre-season form . I have obviously followed market movements which will reflect the above information. Championship Derby County 5/1 Promotion. This side went close for us last year and they are consistent performers at this level. Tough division this year with Stoke , WBA and free spending Notts Forest all expected to go well . Derby have new high profile Manager in Frank Lampard . I have actually backed them despite him rather than because of him. They have however done  some shrewd recruiting and performed excellently in pre-season with wins against Southampton and Wolves. The Rams kick off on Friday night so hoping ‘my publisher’ can get this out quickly. Expect them to make play offs again. League One Sunderland dominate this market but I am going for Charlton Athletic 9/2 to be promoted . lost out in the play offs last year . Interesting that  manager Lee Bowyer has only been appointed on a caretaker basis pending the sale of the club.  So off the field activities could be a distraction. However they have had a good pre season and I think they to are decent value to be in amongst  the play off spots.   League 2 Notts County , MK Dons  and Lincoln all have strong claims but I am looking at Mansfield at 9/4 to be promoted . They were well fancied last year but under performed and missed out on a play off . They have a good manager in David Flitcroft have added some useful additions to the squad and been playing well pre season . Should be in the play off shake up . I am ignoring the National League as with one automatic promotion place it is really tough league to get out of. This year the  big spending new boys Salford City have added another complication as they look poor value but are hard to oppose . Just how dramatic their spending is at this level is demonstrated that they have signed Adam Rooney from Aberdeen a side who came second hand I’m sure in Scottish Premiership . A team playing in Europe and with prospects of winning Scottish cup competitions. Rooney has however opted to follow the Salford project outside the EFL . I am also giving like the Scottish Premiership a pass this year  . Aberdeen for second place haskoha ebeen my standing bet for last 3 seasons . They madse hard work of holding off Rangers last year Andrew I hate to dsay it but expectations areRangers to improve under Steven Gerrard with his new signings . Scottish Championship g I am going for Ross County at 5/2 to win  this .They along with potential rivals Partick Thistle were relegated from the Premiership last year .  Scottish cup competitions have already started so we have some real form to study and Ross Co have started well . This will be a competitive league as the normally underachieving Dundee United might well go close this year ( now that I have not selected them ) . Scottish League one Was going to give this a miss as hard to see past Raith Rovers who are too short a price . However I have noticed Airdrie getting some good results lately and they appeal at a decent 8/1 each way to make the top 3 . Scottish League 2 This looks a straight match up between Peterhead and Clyde . I backed Clyde last year and they were disappointing . However they improved in the second half of the season and following some good cup displays I am prepared to give them another chance at 11/4 to win this division. Gaelic Games Galway still going well in both Hurling and Football . They face a tough Hurling semi final replay against a dogged Clare team who they failed to kill off in the first match up . Backed at 29/10 and now trading at an IcePrice of 11/10 . On the football side they have qualified for a semi final where I am hoping they avoid Dublin . Got on at 14/1 and now shortened to 6/1 ( IcePrice ) . Well looking forward to this weekend and seeing how our selections get on in the first round of fixtures . Big weekend Gaelic wise as Galway in action in both codes. Will be hoping to get some winnings so I can donate to anti-racist charity Hope not Hate who are doing some great work combating the far right . It is customary to give Mrs IceMan an annual dividend from the portfolio to spend at TK Maxx . This year we have a potential  conflict as they are advertisers on Nigel Farage LBC radio show. After he interviewed the hate monger Bannon there has been a campaign to get advertisers to drop his show .
