Happy Friday!
The Mooresville Downtown Commission (MDC) is proud to be an active member of the NC Main Street Program.  Each year, as part of the NC program, the MDC has a chance to nominate a "Main Street Champion".
Main Street Champions are dedicated individuals who have an ongoing commitment to downtown improvements and strong communities.  Someone that will step up and invest time and money in the community and work to improve the quality of life. Downtown Mooresville is excited to recognize David Miller as the "2019 Downtown Mooresville Main Street Champion"!
Tumblr media
David Miller is a long-time friendly face and hardworking business owner in Downtown Mooresville. David owns Whit Miller Shoe Store & Repair. Originally known as Whitlow’s, the store has operated in its Main Street location since 1927. The store has been in David’s family since 1973, when his father purchased it, and renamed it Whit Miller.
David served on the Mooresville Downtown Commission Board of Directors in several roles, including as Chairman. In addition to volunteering hundreds of hours at various meetings and events; David also single handedly planned and implemented the “Race City Pit Stop”. This event honored Mooresville’s racing heritage and brought stock cars, demos, visitors and more to Main Street for many years.
David has been an anchor in downtown for decades, and he has always had a positive approach with an eye on the future. Though David has now relocated his business to his home (with the goal of retiring one day); he still works hard and provides his customers the ongoing custom service they have grown to expect from Whit Miller Shoe Store & Repair. The MDC sincerely thanks David for all his years of dedication, and wish him the best!

Stay Updated on the Latest Business Happenings in Downtown Mooresville!
Good afternoon!
The Mooresville Downtown Commission (MDC) is proud to be an active member of the NC Main Street Program. As part of the requirements to retain an "active" status with the NC Main Street Program; the MDC must collect and submit specific data each year. The statistics submitted by Main Street communities help tell a story about the awesome work taking place in downtowns all across our state.   We are excited to share with you that since June of 2009; Downtown Mooresville has had over $15,172,000 of private investment. This includes building sales/purchase, building renovations, etc. For fiscal year June 2017 through July 2018; there was over $3,300,000 in private investments made. We will share more of our awesome stats with you soon!
The MDC is also very proud to support and partner with Mooresville Arts! Our semi-annual event, Uncorked & Artsy is organized by both entities along with help from many wonderful volunteers.  A portion of the proceeds from each event is donated to Mooresville Arts Renovation Fund. Over the summer; Hugh Sykes, MDC Treasurer, had the opportunity to present Jessica DeHart, President of Mooresville Arts, with a $600 check towards that fund. On that note - this is a Don't Miss event so... **Mark Your Calendars for October's Uncorked & Artsy event....October 12 from 6-9pm!**

It's always so much fun to talk about the exciting HAPPENINGS in Downtown Mooresville. Recently we hosted representatives from across the state who work in and are passionate about downtown development and boy, did Downtown Mooresville have a lot of exciting information to share!  From upcoming park renovations and a new taphouse (in an old bank), to freshly renovated buildings and upper floor residential units now being offered; overall things continue to move in a positive direction!  The Mooresville Downtown Commission is also excited to announce a new business opening July 6 called Nailed It DIY! Nailed It DIY Studio Mooresville will be located at 248 N. Main Street and is the first national franchise of the original Nailed It DIY Studios in Fort Mill and Rock Hill, SC. Mooresville owner, Melinda Dutcher, has lived in the Lake Norman area for the past 10+ years with her husband, Bob Kinser, owner of Zen Massage Mooresville and Zen Massage Charleston. Nailed It DIY Studio Mooresville offers a wide variety of fun do-it-yourself experiences where you can create your very own custom project.  Most projects are solid wood signs with plank, stacked or framed options in a range of sizes and designs using all organic paints, stains and waxes. Other projects include, but are not limited to, serving trays, lazy susans, bottle openers, trophy shelves, custom photo prints and recipe holders. Building, sanding, designing, painting, waxing... you do it all at Nailed It! Unique to the Nailed It concept, walk-in open studio hours will be offered beginning July 6 every Wednesday – Saturday. Private parties, kids’ birthdays, team building, bachelorette parties, date night, mommy & me time and corporate events can be reserved online at Nailed It DIY or by calling the studio at 704.402.4612. Mini summer camps will be offered in August (details will be posted soon on the website) with a full array of summer camps available in 2019. Nailed It DIY studio will feature two locally inspired projects highlighting Mooresville and Lake Norman to celebrate their official opening. These special projects will be available to all customers who stop in on July 6 or July 7 to join in opening festivities. July 6 hours are 12pm-8pm and July 7 hours are 10am-5pm. A community grand opening will be held on August 11 leading into the monthly Festival of Food Truck event. Nailed It DIY Studio Mooresville is excited to be a part of a growing and thriving downtown district, and Melinda and team look forward to meeting each of you!

We’d also like to offer an anniversary shout out to Mooresville Service Center who celebrated 10 years in Downtown Mooresville on June 18. Owners Rick and Vicki Schmidt moved to the Mooresville area from Southern Maryland with the intention of starting their own automotive service center. Rick is an ASE Certified technician and has almost two decades experience working as a Senior Master Tech with Ford Motor Company.  Though it took a little time to find their initial location; they opened in June of 2008 in the old Mooresville Ford building on Broad Street in Downtown Mooresville. With the growth and success of the business, Mooresville Service Center purchased a building several years ago and is now located at 372 N. Main Street. Mooresville Service Center takes pride in offering honest, professional service, at a fair price, in a timely manner. Vicki states “we have really enjoyed being a business and supporter of the downtown area and love all the positive changes we've seen happen in the 10 years we've been in business. We have serviced a lot of locals and newcomers alike, a very large amount since the day we opened.” Thank you, Rick & Vicki & congratulations, again! Mooresville Service Center can be reached at 704-662-0311 Downtown Mooresville, the heart of a Happening community since 1873!  All the best,

Good evening from the Mooresville Downtown Commission and welcome back to our latest "From the Desk of" newsletter focused on business Happenings in Downtown Mooresville!
This edition focuses on the many faces of Downtown Mooresville. Part of what makes Downtown Mooresville such a great business family is that we have business owners who have been around for decades and businesses who are new or new to the area and they all work to support one another! Speaking of decades! Pike Stewart, owner of Pike’s Full-Service Gas Station since 1964 is still in operation. Known as Mr. Pike to most and certainly a local icon; he’s still providing full service including gas, a window wash and  a smile. He’s worked hard to run his business with kindness and compassion and is a fine example of a cornerstone business in Mooresville's rich history! See more here about Mr. Pike here (he's a bit camera shy though!):

Cotton & Vickie Ketchie owned and operated Cotton Ketchie’s Landmark Gallery on Main Street for over 30 years. Cotton’s work as a painter, photographer and writer is well known across the state of NC and the Country. Recently retired, the couple was nominated by the Mooresville Downtown Commission as the 2017 Main Street Champions. Cotton & Vickie were recognized with the award at the NC Main Street Conference held in March of 2018. Cotton and Vickie have always supported, spread the word & volunteered in Downtown Mooresville. In retirement, their volunteer efforts continue as they give back to the Mooresville community as a whole. See more about Cotton & Vickie Ketchie’s award here:

A little newer to Downtown Mooresville is the father & son team of Gary & David Preston. When seen in public, Gary & David Preston could surely be mistaken for close friends. Lunch meetings, a round of golf or an after-work gathering is always in the works. As business partners in both Preston & Partners and PeopleSuite recruiting search firms, this father-son team combines a close family connection with their professional and personal respect for one another.
The Prestons' recently shared the following: “Family Business Center studies have shown that family owned businesses are the backbone of the American economy with 35% of Fortune 500 companies family operated from small to major organizations. A Harvard Business Review studies claims that “family run businesses create a culture of commitment and purpose . . .”
While focusing on and growing their business, the Preston’s also believe in giving back to the community. Gary serves on the Mooresville Downtown Commission Board of Directors and both keep a focus on supporting Downtown organizations like Mooresville Arts. PeopleSuite is located on Main Street.
