It's fine, it's cool You can say that we are nothing, but you know the truth And guess I'm the fool With her arms out like an angel through the car sunroof

❛ you remembered? ❜

Magdalena was pretty sure something was going on between JJ and Edgar, she just didn't know what. They'd been lost in each other's orbit as of late, which definitely meant something because just a few weeks ago, Edgar couldn't look JJ in the eye without going red in the face.
She was on the beach with Sarah and her Pogues — they'd gotten sick of plotting their ridiculous treasure hunt inside, and were adamant that being near the waves would help. That was perfectly fine with her. It meant she could do her favorite pastime - peoplewatching. And she'd set her sights on JJ and Edgar, desperate to know what was going on with them.
They were a bit separated from their group, sitting side by side on towels ahead of them. Edgar was reading a book, squinting at the pages, though she wasn't sure if that was because of the sun or the fact that he had terrible vision and refused to do something about it.
JJ whistled to get his attention, and when he looked up, he slipped a familiar pair of reading glasses onto his nose.
Edgar beamed, his smile as bright as the sun above them. "You 'membered m'glasses?"
JJ gave him a shy little half shrug. "Yeah, well, can't you have being blind, now can we?"
Edgar shoved at his shoulder, before looking back to his book, the two of them smiling to themselves.
Magdalena couldn't focus on that, too lost in a memory.
It had been months ago, on her sixteenth birthday.
She'd been home alone, both of her parents out of town with business, and Milo, her younger brother, sleeping over at a friends house. She wasn't totally alone, their au pair, Imogene, was in the living room watching a movie, and Sebastian, her dad's assistant, was in his office fielding emails. But it wasn't the same. It wasn't her family.
A sudden knock on her window startled her out of her sadness. She blinked and Sarah was there on her balcony, holding a gift bag and a bouquet of purple balloons.
She rushed out of bed to open the door to open the door. "What the hell are you doing here?"
Sarah scoffed. "You seriously didn't think I'd miss your birthday, did you?"
Her heart flooded with joy, and something warm that she couldn't name. "You remembered?"
Sarah grinned, nodding. "Of course I did. There's no way I'd forget my best girl's day. Now open your gifts!"
She was jolted back to realty by Sarah shrieking. She blinked, looking out into the water. John B had her slung over his shoulder, threatening to dunk her into the ocean. The two of them were smiling so wide that it had to hurt, glowing and sunkissed, looking like the perfect couple you'd see on TV.
Magdalena's stomach churned. She slipped her sunglasses off of her head, blocking their display of affection from view.
