tried listening to an audiobook for a road trip. immediate result is that whenever i read something that's written in an even SLIGHTLY conversational style, i hear it in the voice of the audiobook narrator

#it was a decent experience overall #but i think that listening to audiobooks when i also need directions will irritate me #because no matter what the directions interfere slightly with hearing the audiobook #so i would need to like. a) listen to audiobooks alone in the car w/o directions #b) listen to audiobooks in the car w/o directions with a CAR-WIDE TALKING BAN so i can hear #or c) listen to audiobooks when in situations in which i'm unlikely to be interrupted by other talking #but i also don't spend a lot of consecutive time in situation c #except for like. time when i'm dealing with written text #and thus cannot also concentrate on spoken text #so audiobooks may be more of a situation specific thing for me than a broad application thing #e.g. i have a v short commute so the audiobook would be annoyingly bite sized in that scenario
