#eagle award
Text
i know scouts BSA isn't super popular right now, but I just want to say to people working on their Eagle projects that go get it done. Turn in your paperwork. Write the report. ask someone for a letter of recommendation. get someone to sign it. Getting your eagle is totally worth it, and you will have so many more opportunities if you get it. if getting hired comes down between you and another person, and you have the eagle award, your much more likely to get it.

The Age of Adaline (2015, Lee Toland Krieger)
07/04/2024
The Age of Adaline is a 2015 film directed by Lee Toland Krieger starring Blake Lively.
Adaline Marie Bowman was born in 1908. The girl is destined for eternal youth. During her stay in the city of San Francisco in the United States, Adaline, under the name Jennifer Larson, works in a library and lives in the company of a dog.
Ellis wants Adaline to accept her donation so they can take a photo together, but she refuses, as she wants to avoid being recognized by people from her past through photographs of her.
William, although years have passed since he met Adaline, still defines her as a magnificent woman and gives her every credit for having given him the courage to abandon medical school to dedicate himself to her true passion, astronomy.
Filming of the film took place in Coquitlam, Canada. Gabriele Muccino was initially considered to direct the film, with Katherine Heigl and Angela Lansbury in the cast.
Lana Del Rey composed the official soundtrack, titled Life Is Beautiful.

Celebrating Ingrid Pitt
Ingrid Pitt (born Ingoushka Petrov; 21 November 1937 – 23 November 2010) was a Polish-British actress and writer best known for her work in horror films of the 1970s.
Ingoushka Petrov was born in Warsaw, Poland, one of two daughters of a father of German Jewish descent and a Polish Jewish mother. During World War II, she and her mother were imprisoned in Stutthof concentration camp in Sztutowo, Free City of Danzig (present-day Nowy Dwór Gdański County, Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland) but escaped. In Berlin, in the 1950s, Ingoushka married an American soldier, Laud Roland Pitt Jr., and moved to California. After her marriage failed she returned to Europe, but after a small role in a film, she took the shortened stage name "Ingrid Pitt", keeping her former husband's surname, and headed to Hollywood, where she worked as a waitress while trying to make a career in films.
In the early 1960s, Pitt was a member of the prestigious Berliner Ensemble, under the guidance of Bertolt Brecht's widow Helene Weigel. In 1965, she made her film debut in Doctor Zhivago, playing a minor role. In 1968, she co-starred in the low-budget science-fiction film The Omegans, and in the same year, played British spy Heidi Schmidt in Where Eagles Dare opposite Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood.
Tumblr media
Her work with Hammer Film Productions elevated her to cult figure status. She starred as Carmilla/Mircalla in The Vampire Lovers (1970), based on Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu's novella Carmilla, and played the title role in Countess Dracula (1971), based on the legends about Countess Elizabeth Báthory. Pitt also appeared in the Amicus horror anthology film The House That Dripped Blood (1971) and had a small part in The Wicker Man (1973).
Tumblr media
During the 1980s, Pitt returned to mainstream films and television. Her role as Fraulein Baum in the 1981 BBC Playhouse Unity, who is denounced as a Jew by Unity Mitford (Lesley-Anne Down), was uncomfortably close to her real-life experiences. Her popularity with horror film buffs had her in demand for guest appearances at horror conventions and film festivals. Other films in which Pitt has appeared outside the horror genre are: Who Dares Wins (1982) (or The Final Option), Wild Geese II (1985) and Hanna's War (1988). Generally cast as a villainess, her characters often died horribly at the end of the final reel. "Being the anti-hero is great – they are always roles you can get your teeth into."
Tumblr media
In the 1980s she also reinvented herself as a writer. Her first book, after a number of ill-fated tracts on the plight of Native Americans, was the 1980 novel, Cuckoo Run, a spy story about mistaken identity. "I took it to Cubby Broccoli. It was about a woman called Nina Dalton who is pursued across South America in the mistaken belief that she is a spy. Cubby said it was a female Bond. He was being very kind."
Tumblr media
In 1999, her autobiography, Life's a Scream (Heinemann) was published, and she was short-listed for the for her own reading of extracts from the audio book.
The autobiography detailed the harrowing experiences of her early life—in a Nazi concentration camp, her search through Europe in Red Cross refugee camps for her father, and her escape from East Berlin, one step ahead of the Volkspolizei. "I always had a big mouth and used to go on about the political schooling interrupting my quest for thespian glory. I used to think like that. Not good in a police state."
Tumblr media
Pitt died in a south London hospital on 23 November 2010, a few days after collapsing, and two days after her 73rd birthday, from congestive heart failure.
Tumblr media
Seven months before she died, Pitt finished narration for Ingrid Pitt: Beyond the Forest (2011), an animated short film on her experience in the Holocaust, a project that had been in the works for five years. Character design and storyboards were created by two-time Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Bill Plympton. The film is directed by Kevin Sean Michaels; co-produced and co-written by Jud Newborn, Holocaust expert and author, "Sophie Scholl and the White Rose"; and drawn by 10-year-old animator, Perry Chen.

Scouts and Religion
Scouting has been a large part of my life growing up, and it continues to be a large part of my life as I have volunteered with local troops and now am watching my children in their own journey. If you didn't know, there are some big changes in the Boy Scouts. For one, it's no longer called the Boy Scouts (new name = Scouting America)! And girls are welcome to participate too!
Tumblr media
Although scouting has been quite strong and formative in my life, the national organization wasn't always in line with my ideals. One of my main concerns growing up was the stress on belief in God. My religion, Unitarian Universalism, does not hold an institutional view on a divinity, so it was problematic for me to be open in my faith while feeling constrained in scouting. The stress on a Christian faith has lessened over the years from when I was a youth participant, but it still hold weight. In a letter about the name change, the Chief Scout Executive states:
Recently, some have wondered if Scouting’s commitment to faith was still strong. They supposed that by changing our name we might somehow be moving away from our core ideals. I can assure you that nothing could be further from the truth. The Scout Oath and Law begin with Duty to God and conclude with Reverent. This is not an accident. Scouting’s founders knew that faith acts as a type of compass that guides and ultimately makes our families, communities, and our nation stronger.
Tumblr media
I was lucky growing up that my local troop was welcoming of me as a non-Christian. I was also lucky that the adult leaders in my region accepted my belief in "something larger than myself" as appropriate for meeting the organization's "duty to God" requirement.
I am no longer a youth, navigating my faith journey and my scouting development. Now I am an Eagle Scout and ordained minister in an organization which has changed with the times. Yes, Scouting America was founded on Christian ideals and remains steeped in the language of that religion. Yes, many troops meet in Christian churches and leaders have specific theological views.
Even so - there is a place for your faith in Scouting America! Yes, even you. Scouting has numerous religious awards, and although not required for advancement to Eagle, they are highly encouraged and esteemed. I met in a small group with my minister to earn the Unitarian Universalist religious award, and I am sure that process helped lead me into ministry.
Tumblr media
Here is the current list of Religious Emblems, including many different Christian denominations and other major faith communities. The awards include Buddhism and Hinduism, and I recently found awards for both Humanist and Wicca / Pagan beliefs.
This is to say, if you are involved in scouting - Scouting America or Girls Scouts or another organization - if you know someone involved... and they are interested in exploring their faith within the scouting experience, it can be done. Reach out to your local faith community, your national faith organization, heck, you can ask me. I'm happy to make connections to your faith leaders, and would be honored to walk with scouts in their journey of faith if they need a mentor or guide.
Tumblr media
To all those who are concerned about Scouting's commitment to faith, I am committed! But not necessarily to one specific faith. I'm committed to supporting each and every scout in their own religious beliefs.
In Scouting and In Faith,

A journey to the border between Kazakhstan and Mongolia, among the Altai's mountain, heading to the local Kazakhs Muslim community in search of a certainer person.... The honorable "Burgedchins" in Kazakhs word.... "Burgedchin" or "Eagle Hunters" are pride hunters who inherit their hunts with their Golden eagle for more than 250 years. Trained to hunt since 10 years old in a harsh extreme environment with their eagles on a horse back. At -40 Celsius degree, only strong survives. This became the bond between hunters and his predators.
