Hide and seek

Dustin wants to play hide and seek with The party. Steve and Eddie end up in the same hiding spot. Awkward times follow.( https://archiveofourown.org/works/62561122 ao3 link )

Dustin decided that the whole party had to play hide and seek. So everyone had to gather in Steves house and play. And since it was Dustins idea, he was the first one to look.

They had three minutes to hide. They were currently two and a half minutes into that time, and Steve still haven’t found a hiding spot. All the good ones were already occupied by someone else, so he had to go with the small closet on the first floor, where Dustin will almost definitely look first. But Steve didn’t really care, so he went there.

Just as the timer went of, he got in and closed the door. He breathed a sigh of relief and turned around.

And before him, Eddie was staring, not very happily, at him.

“What are you doing here, Harrington, get out.“ He tried to push him out, but Steve was stronger than him, and he wasn’t pushing all that hard anyway.

“Sorry Eds, he’s already looking. Do you really want me to die?“ He shot Eddie comically sad look.

Eddie was just standing there and staring at him, until he sighed and hung his head in defeat.

“Okay, I guess you can stay. Turn the lights on though, it’s too dark in here.“

Steve did as Eddie said, and in that moment, it fell on him just how close they were really standing to each other. So much, that if he walked just a step closer to Eddie, they would be touching by their chests.

When he realised that, the room suddenly became three times warmer, and his already appearing blush three times darker.

They were standing there, almost pressed to each other for around two minutes.

The two minutes, Steve dedicated to studying Eddies face. While Eddie was staring at the very interesting white ceiling.

In the two minutes, Steve noticed details about Eddies face, that he had never noticed before.

Like the fact, that his eyes weren’t that dark as he thought at first. They were dark, of course, but in the bright light of the room, they seemed almost like chocolate, dark brown with a slight bit of sweetnes to them.

His nose was a bit crooked, maybe from some accident from when he was little. Maybe, little Eddie was riding a bike, fell and broke his nose. He smiled at that thought. There were so many things he didn’t know about Eddie yet, and he wanted to know every single one of them.

And the last thing, the one that most surprised him, was that he had freckles. Light ones, but there were so many of them. He didn’t know how he couldn’t notice them before.

“I never noticed you have freckles.“ He whispered, so Dustin couldn’t hear them, while looking for them.

Eddie moved his eyes from the ceiling to Steve. He just gave Steve a weird look, but said nothing, while continuing to look into Steves eyes.

Just as Steve was beginning to think that he said something wrong, Eddie started to talk.

“Yeah that’s probably for the best, they’re not my most flattering feature.“ He laughed, but there was something sad in it.

Steve was thinking for a bit about what he was going to say next. If what he wanted to say was too much forward. But he decided to say it anyway.

“I think they’re cute“

What followed after he said that, was one of the most awkward and quiet moments he had to live through. He knew it was too much, that Eddie was straight and this was going to weird him out. He should’ve just kept his mouth shut.

He started to spiral, thinking about everything that could possibly happen now.

Eddie pulled him out of his thoughts by poking his arm, while looking at him expectantly. Steve realised he must’ve said something, but Steve didn’t hear him over his overthinking. Eddie catched on and repeated it.

“Can I kiss you?“

When he said that, Steves mind went blank, and the only thing he could do was nod.

Eddie started to get closer to him, Steve could already feel his breath on his lips. They were so close to kissing. But then the door opened, and Dustin appeared behind it.

“Yes! First ones!“ He said excitedly and ran away to find the other ones still hiding.

And just by that, he made poor Steve and Eddie pine after each other for another two months.
