Real Estate Term Alert! Let’s talk about cash reserves. Cash reserves are what the buyer has left over after the down payment and closing costs of buying a home. Cash reserves are typically referred to in how many months of mortgage payments can be made using those funds. Lenders generally require 2 months of reserves, but some may ask for up to 6 months of reserves depending on your situation. Basically, the lender wants to make sure that you have enough money to pay your mortgage and that you won’t be paying it paycheck to paycheck.
