I finally saw Hadestown [Australia] and you were so right that for a second you think Orpheus is not going to turn around. I've listened to it so many times but I'm still devastated. Incredible show stopping brilliant I adore this musical even more now.
Gonna go back and find your Hadestown art now
YYYAAYYYYY I AM SO GLAD YOU ENJOYED ITTTTT!!! That moment STILL gets me if I haven't heard/seen the show a while. He truly convinces you. You truly see the way the world could be for a moment there. Before it all comes crashing down and you are returned to the world you live in now :')

Everytime i watched the httyd animated movie, the scene when Astrid was in awe of the flying and the dragon and the aurora, and there's the beautiful beautiful soundtrack, it always made me feel some type of goosebumps. Then she said that Toothless is amazing. It's SO GOOD
And before that, it's the scene where Toothless lets Hiccup touch him finally, like, it's SO GOOOOD SO TOUCHING
Why couldn't we only have that?
Yeah!!! It is a fantastic, well done movie that can't be imitated into cheap emotional payoff!! When people call it dated, it reminds me of my experience playing Dragon Age Origins for the first time earlier this year. Yes, the models are dated compared to today's technology, but it doesn't matter - the direction and the execution of the cutscenes is so fantastic it doesn't matter. I have never seen such an epic fantasy battle in video games, and I mostly play new games. If it is good quality, it will make you feel regardless of technological limitations, because the people working on it know what to do. The og HTTYD movie made me feel as much a couple days ago as it did back in 2011, while the remake just makes me feel like I am watching an alternate version that sucks ass

Fuck Disney for never defending their black and poc actors when shit like this happens. What’s a trash of a corporation. John Boyega was right!
They want the diversity points, but give 0 shit about real life minorities. It is clear from the way all their "feminist" retellings are just empty caricatures of women with nonsensical plotlines - bonus points if it's WoC who can then be attacked for "stealing" a white woman's role. It is a disgusting corporation and I hope people finally realize they shouldn't give them any money at all of they want media to heal from the damage Disney did to it

I was wondering, how could I get into hadestown? Like should I watch a slime tutorial or idk?
Yes you should, I def recommend watching a boot as your first Hadestown experience!!! Specifically, this slime tutorial I screenshot below. It doesn't have to be this repost on youtube, but I def recommend this specific recording taken during the 2019 Broadway previews, because 1) imo it is the best one with the best characterization and performance (and some cut verses I will never get over - it does feature some other alt lyrics and music choices that ended up being changed for the official opening night), and 2) often it comes with subtitles (this specific repost doesn't have them, but if you can find it to download, there's big chances it will! If not, you can follow along with lyrics from the soundtrack, since the musical is sang-through and all of it is on the OBC. Aside from the aforementioned mourned verses). Once you've experienced it this way, you can move to the official recordings, and other bootlegs - the show has a couple recorded versions that are wildly different from each other, 2010 concept album, NYTW, Edmonton, and Broadway, and it's fun to see and compare them! For subspecies, there's also London (a mix between Edmonton and Broadway) and West End (aside from a couple lines, the same as Broadway) versions. The reason I am listing them all is because they all slap in different ways, and it's always fun to explore them. Lmk if you have any other questions, and happy Hadestowning~

I feel like because of the rise of tiktok / booktok we now get phrases like 'morally grey' or 'enemies to lovers' and other tropes put on books JUST to make them markable and sellable. And it's SO annoying. I read a book I really enjoyed but my brother in CHRIST you are who puts that on the cover or backside you do NOT know what it actually means 😭
And do not get me started on booktok made me buy it
Makes me NOT wanna buy the book
Ohhh it is ssoooo annoying!!! Oh your love interest is morally grey because he kills people???? Huh?????!?!?!!? That is NOT how this works baby. But I would rather have this, where you can tell the marketing is trying to hit all tiktok buzzwords, than the 2010s version where it was books like this disguised to look like epic fantasy. All in all, marketing is annoying the only recs I trust are from real people

Red rising doesn’t receive enough hate in my opinion. Obnoxious characters and way too overrated. 🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅
Girl I've said it before and I'll say it again, I think it's peak proof that we still live in a patriarchal world that my SJM hate parties last for days on end, but my Pierce Brown hate only gets a handful of reactions. And to be clear I am not saying we should hate SJM less, I am saying we should hate Pierce Brown more. WE HATE YOU RED RISING IF PATRIARCHY WASN'T A THING YOU'D BE MOCKED ALL OVER THE INTERNET
#eernask#eernanon#like red rising is EVERYWHERE i keep seeing it recommended by EVERYONE CONSTANTLY and i just sit there like. HOW HOW HOOOOWWWWW

IT'S SJM DUNK DAY AGAIN????? MY FAVORITE DAY!!!!!
Nesta still suffers from "being in an sjm book" syndrome (not well written). But in my eyes she's the most tolerable because she's the only one who calls out feyre and her lame ass husband on their hypocrisy.
(I will never ever everrrrrrrr forgive them for having public sex in the fantasy rape shelter. That's a real thing that happens in one of the later books!!!!!! (It's like. A library exclusively staffed by victims of sexual and domestic violence. Men aren't allowed to enter. Except for Rhysand! Because he's such a good male feminist and all women instantly love him!)
Honestly that's probably what I said last dunk day as well lol but that was really the moment that elevated my personal dislike of the books into "how does *anyone* think this is good/feminist"?)
So anyways. In addition to THAT - Nesta is traumatized and alcoholic as a result. So our beloved power couple's solution is to lock her up in the cliffside palace, bc unlike the rest of them she can't fly/teleport and therefore can't leave. (And they raze her apartment building too??? 😭). I will remind you of the LAST time there was a deeply traumatized girl who had been turned into a fae and was not coping and was locked in a house in an attempt to keep her safe. As if we did not just spend however many books dragging Tamlin for this. But because Rice Sand is the one doing it, it's for her own good actually! And then they/SJM Stockholm Syndrome her into believing that by the end of the book. The HYPOCRISYYYYYY
These books make me need to become evil.
APPARENTLY SO, SO BRING OUT THE BUFFET AND THE DRINKS AND THE DECORATIONS AND THE MEGAPHONE!!
There we go, previous anon, the full story of Nesta! If there's a consistent theme with SJM books, it's "Bad things are only bad if done by bad people. If good people do those same things, those things are good!"

wait can I ask why some aren’t watching the last of us season 2?
I dislike the second game
I dislike a lot of season 1
The plot is inspired by Neil Druckmann's feelings towards Palestinians as an Israeli - specifically, the murderous hatred he felt for them that he later regretted. I am not sure how I feel about it because on one hand, feeling hatred towards Palestinians and regretting it is not enough to mark him as a zionist, but I can't find anything else he'd said on the topic of the conflict and the game has a very muddled narrative that doesn't really make it easier. I am just mentioning it because some people are choosing not to support the show because of that. Edit: Hello yes he's a zionist

What are your bookish icks or pet peeves?
Ok I don't think objectively or morally bad stuff counts as an ick, so here are SUBJECTIVE and TRIVIAL things that tick me off!
1) Cursing for the sake of cursing instead of emphasis. I am like this irl too but I don't like it when people constantly curse, it sounds very edgy tryhard.
2) Over-reliance on tropes and format rules. I don't think there are any tropes I flat out refuse to read, because if an author really truly has something to say about a topic, they will turn anything into gold. But if I can tell the author is going through the motions of what a book or a trope is "supposed" to be, it diminishes my enjoyment of it.
3) Using expressions like "okay" in historical/high fantasy. Somehow this is my most encountered pet peeve in the genre. THEY WOULD NOT BE SAYING OKAY AND OTHER MODERN EXPRESSIONS
4) Women fixing and making apologies for horrible men. Now, if a horrible guy decides to change himself without making the woman a central figure in his redemption, that is another story, but if a woman is the only motivation for him to be better, then I've seen enough of that IRL for the concept to lose all appeal.
5) When every character is obsessed with the protagonist. No one has any worthwhile thing going for themself, they all orbit around the lead. It doesn't even have to be romantic, it includes friends and enemies too, but it makes the world feel small and not at all belieavable.

I feel bad for Rachel. It’s seems like they want to sabotage her. I knew something was going on when they tried to “cancel” her for saying that Snow White is dated. Like come on they all say the same thing when a new live action is in the making.
They got upset with literally every female remake star for saying the same thing (Disney stop telling your actors to always say the same thing challenge), but poor Rachel for some reason got the heaviest hit. I assume it's a mix of racism and her being young and not established enough for everyone to feel safe bullying her? Then the years of her haters trying to tank every movie she's in, then Disney cancelling the premieres and even letting the producer dude say what he said about her... Yeah her career is being sabotaged before our eyes. Thankfully she's slaying on Broadway so even if movies don't work out for her, maybe she can be safe there.

I remember you changing your pfp to Vi after you drew that piece but the attachment is so strong i can't remember what it was before that LIKE. Vi and you were indistinguishable for me lmao
Yes, I drew that piece SPECIFICALLY as my icon because I was hit with a heavenly VIsion that Vi just HAD to be my representative on the Internet. Who was I before? It mattered not. The only thing that mattered was Vi (and my newfound love for painting, that was my first ever piece done in the style I currently use vbsjkavbkja)

While we're on the topic of httyd... I love rewatching the first movie because it makes me forget how puppified Tootgless gets in later movies :/
ANYWAYS what do you think of the live action Toothless design?
Yeah, I am just not a fan of the sequels in general... But the first movie is one of the cornerstones of my childhood, Toothless' design is so beautiful and I love him so much!!!
As for the live action... idk man. I guess it's not as bad as the sequels because this is a shot-for-shot remake of the first movie so Toothless still acts more like himself and not a dumb puppy, but he doesn't fit live action. Seeing a cartoonish big eyed dragon next to real life people is so jarring. This could have been animated and it would have looked way better- wait

sorry for this ask but how do you think noragami written by sjm would be like(just finished noragami THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR INTRODUCING ME TO THIS SERIES)
(No prob, SO glad you enjoyed itttt~~)
Oh my. Well the work is cut out for her isn't it. "1000 year old god who treats people like shit falls in love with a human teen girl with special powers and a penchant for violence" sounds right up her alley!! Hiyori is an 18 year old girl (her hobby is cooking and she waxes poetics about it every 10 pages) whose family has fallen on hard times because her father's hospital went under. Her mother is a housewife and her older brother is an useless artist so she has to try and keep her family afloat :((( One day she sees the sexiest super male very muscly man who is walking out in the path of the bus and saves him!! Hurray!!! He is a god named Yato, who offers to help her with her family, in exchange for her becoming his shrine maiden! Gasp, what a steal of a deal! What she DOESN't know is that her maternal bloodline has spirit world superpowers that have lore ties to Yato, who is actually straight up Yaboku in this version, and everyone fears him and thinks he is the coolest most powerful most loathed most vengeful war god ever. And Yukine is the vanilla third dude who is always around to explain Yato's sad backstory. Bisha is the token Evil Woman From His Past who gets her ass handed to her by Hiyori to show how Yato will no longer be mistreated by bad bad ladies. Jesus I just remembered that Yato had inexplicable shadow powers in that one chapter. That makes him ripe to become a shadow daddy. Bless

Would you say tog is slightly better than acotar?
Yeah, because at least it has SOMETHING going for it. It's super clear that SJM started out inspired by epic fantasy and set out to write a heroine (actually multiple heroines, starting with HoF) who can match the scale of the story, and that was simply not something you would see much back in 2012, so I can forgive teen me for loving it so much. Aelin is a genuinely cool female power fantasy (for the first half of the story, I have yet to reread the other 4 books) - overpowered and unrealistic, but damn, sometimes a teen girl wants to read about a teen girl who can overpower and outwit anyone AND then go home and enjoy art and pretty clothes and chocolate. Meanwhile Feyre does nothing but marry rich and cry and all her empowerment is strictly within bounds of heteronormative sexism. And even outside the lead, Manon, Elide and Lysandra are genuinely interesting characters, and their writing in HoF and QoN could easily be placed in a different book and I would eat it up. The novella, The Assassin's Blade, was even I would dare say ok in its entirety, with the only proper male romantic interest SJM has ever written.
HOWEVER!!!!!!!!!!! It is still not GOOD. The first book is boring a death game/GoT combo, the second book is filler, the third book is when SJM started experimenting with fae and mates, the fourth book is where it takes a sharp turn into her ACOTAR style writing, and books 5 though 7 are so unreadably bad that I flat out gave up when I tried rereading the first time. The second book is when the infamous "only black character dies because she believes dying would build the white lead's character" incident happens, and we don't get to see other lead black characters because the entire country is torched later (as a message to the white lead). In book 5 Aelin straight up says violent conquest is bad if bad people do it, and good if good people do it. The pedophilic subtext of Elide and Lorcan is off the charts. Manon turns from a HC lesbian icon into a heteronormative sex doll for a boring dude 100 years her junior. Lysandra ends up arcless and with romance as her only goal. The books are bad the books are bad the books are BAD, but it is kind of wild how you can tell the exact moment ACOTAR was written and published, because ToG becomes 10 times worse than before.
All in all, SJM is a writer who only gets worse at her craft with time, but that doesn't mean issues plaguing her books haven't been present before.
#eernask#eernanon#merry sjm dunk day#<- just my sjm tag#all in all. you can tell i have strong feelings about tog#this is why i am making the presentation. to finally expell the demon!!

How do you come up with good outfits for Jude and Cardan? I want to draw those two, but i'm afraid of messing up the outfit design and giving them inaccurate costumes that doesn't match the setting. Should I just use tfota fanart as reference?
I use the book descriptions as reference! HB describes clothes a lot, and if you don't wanna draw those described, it gives you the jumping off point for making up your own outfits. Off the top of my head, Faerie clothes have lots of natural influences - everything described features decoration inspired by (or sometimes even made out of) vegetation, animals, or natural materials. There are two "levels" of clothes - the first is closer to human clothes and worn on an everyday basis, with some decoration (acorns sewn around hems, stitching in the shapes of birds and plants, pieces tailored to look like leaves stitched together, etc.), and the second is the dramatic magical Faerie court fashion (dresses entirely made out of petals, raven feather cloaks, Liriope's warderobe). Cardan belongs to the second category, while Jude starts the series out firmly in the first, and later sometimes slips into the second as she joins the court. From what I can tell, historically speaking the pieces are all over the place, some working as baroque crinolines, some being simple one-piece shifts, which makes sense since it's a place stuck in time. And finally, if you want some visual inspiration, I personally use historical fashion as well as other fairy depictions that lean towards the natural side by simply looking up fairies on the Internet. Happy drawing~
#eernask#skullywullypully#eernask talk tfota#a personal pet peeve is when tfota fanart makes jude look like she's ready for the red carpet. THAT'S NOT FAERIE FASHION#she wore zendaya's knight dress but that was BECAUSE THAT DRESS IS VERY MEDIEVAL FANTASY INSPIRED#you wouldn't catch her in a thin strap floor length glam dress with a slit up her leg. you wouldn't. that's what feyre would wear.
