7, 11, 13, and 20 for the ask game!
7. A series you’ve lost interest in
I dunno if "lost interest" is quite the right term, but I grew up with the Mortal Kombat series and haven't really kept up with it. This isn't even a "I'm bad a fighting games and don't play them much" thing, since I still follow Tekken despite not playing it anymore, bc I like the story and characters, but MK just hasn't held my interest the same way even though my understanding is the story was pretty good for the last game that came out (except Sindel, my brother tells me they assassinated her characterization, rip she was my favorite character).
11. Do you prefer ‘blank slate’ main characters you make yourself or otherwise project onto, or characters with a set personality and backstory?
Ooooh, I have So Many Thoughts™ about this topic, but for sake of brevity the shortest answer is: Depends.
Overall I'm not very keen on blank slate types bc no matter how generic the game dev's try to make the character to be a self-insert, there's always something that just does not work for me (but there's so few fiction characters with personalities who I can or do see something of myself in that it's not surprising that even blank slates are too different from me to try and project on to them). In any case, "projecting onto a character" isn't actually that interesting or fun for me personally either, so it's like, black slate characters in general aren't going to appeal to me and I won't actively seek out games with that sort of playable character. I prefer a fully fleshed out main character with their own personality and motives, bc then I can enjoy the game the same way I would a book or movie or TV show where I can get lost in the story and characters, only for a game I also get to play and interact with the world.
There are exceptions, hence the "depends", bc sometimes a game's so fun or well-designed that the blank slate character doesn't bother me, and there's also a sliding scale between "true blank slate" and "fully fleshed out main character" that a lot of main characters fall into with varying degrees of how successfully the game devs achieved the desired result (which is also highly subjective), and I have different feelings towards a character depending on developer's intent, how it was done, and the character's role in the story, so like, yeah.
13. Quick, name the first song from a game that comes to mind
"Song for Bygone Days" from the FE Echoes: Shadows of Valentia ost, which is to this day one of the most haunting and beautiful map songs I've ever heard in any game ever.
20. A boss you think is really cool
Hmm, I basically tend to enjoy all boss fights and especially final bosses if I enjoy the game mechanics enough (i.e. I have not fought a FE final boss where I haven't enjoyed playing their map, but the final fight in BotW is hideous for me bc it relies on the player having a good grasp of the battle mechanics which I personally really hated and am Very Not Good At).
In terms of general mechanics and overall experience, I really enjoyed the Galdera fight in Octo1 specifically, every boss in Legend of Dragoon (this game is built for the boss fights), and the boss/map of Ch25 of Engage. Conceptually I enjoyed the final boss of Octo2's Extra Stories, but uh, given everything that I did trying to beat the superboss (who was not fun) I ended up waltzing through the final boss fight in less than ten minutes and didn't get to really appreciate the special mechanics for that boss. All the final bosses/maps for Triangle Strategy are an Experience as well, and I mean this in the best way possible.
