"ఏకాదశి వ్రతం నామ సర్వకామఫలప్రదం || కర్తవ్యం సర్వదా విప్రైర్ విష్ణు ప్రీణన కారణం |

రమా ఏకాదశి మాహాత్మ్యము శ్రీకృష్ణధర్మరాజ సంవాద రూపంలో బ్రహ్మవైవర్త పురాణంలో వర్ణించబడింది.

"ఓ జనార్దనా! ఆశ్వీయుజమాస కృష్ణపక్షంలో వచ్చే ఏకాదశి పేరేమిటి? దానిని నాకు వివరించవలసినది" అని ధర్మరాజు శ్రీకృష్ణునితో అన్నాడు.

అపుడు శ్రీకృష్ణుడు జవాబిస్తూ "ఓ రాజసింహమా! ఆ ఏకాదశి పేరు రమా ఏకాదశి. అది సమస్త పాపాలను హరిస్తుంది. ఇపుడు ఆ పవిత్ర ఏకాదశి మహిమను విను" అని పలుకసాగాడు.

చాలాకాలం క్రిందట ముచుకుందుడనే ప్రఖ్యాతరాజు ఉండేవాడు. అతడు స్వర్గరాజు ఇంద్రునికి మంచి మిత్రుడు. యమరాజు, వరుణుడు, కుబేరుడు, విభీషణుడు వంటి మహోన్నతులతో కూడ అతనికి స్నేహం ఉండేది. సత్యసంధుడైన ఆ రాజు సదా విష్ణుభక్తిలో అనురక్తుడై ఉండేవాడు. అతడు తన రాజ్యాన్ని చక్కగా పాలించేవాడు.

కొంతకాలానికి ముచుకుందునికి ఒక కుమార్తె కలిగింది. సర్వోత్తమ నదియైన చంద్రభాగా యొక్క పేరును ఆ అమ్మాయికి పెట్టారు. యుక్తవయస్సు రాగానే ఆమెకు చంద్రసేనుని తనయుడైన శోభనునితో పరిణయము జరిగింది.

ఒకసారి శోభనుడు ఏకాదశిరోజు తన మామగారి ఇంటికి వచ్చాడు. అది చూసిన చంద్రభాగ కలవరపడినదై తనలో తాను "ఓ దేవా! ఇప్పుడేమి చేయాలి? నా భర్త దుర్బలుడు; ఆకలిని తట్టుకోలేడు. నా తండ్రి మరీ కఠినుడు. ఏకాదశికి ముందు రోజు నా తండ్రి ఒక సేవకుని పంపి ఎవ్వరూ ఏకాదశి రోజున అన్నం తినవద్దని చాటింపు కూడ వేస్తాడు”. అని అనుకోసాగింది.

ఈ ఆచారం గురించి వినిన శోభనుడు తన భార్యతో "ఓ ప్రియపత్నీ! ఇపుడు నన్నేమి చేయమంటావు? నా ప్రాణం రక్షింపబడడానికి, అలాగే రాజాజ్ఞ ఉల్లంఘించకుండ ఉండడానికి ఏం చేయాలో చెప్పు" అని అన్నాడు.

అపుడు చంద్రభాగ తన భర్తతో "స్వామీ! మనుషుల మాట అటుంచండి. నా తండ్రి రాజ్యంలో ఏనుగులు, గుఱ్ఱాలు, ఇతర జంతువులకు కూడ ఈ రోజు ఆహారం ఉండదు. కనుక ప్రభూ! ఇక మనుషులెట్లా తినగలుగుతారు. ఒకవేళ తప్పకుండ తినవలసియే ఉంటే మీరు మీ ఇంటికి వెళ్ళవలసి వస్తుంది. ఇది మీరు ఆలోచించి ఏదో ఒక నిర్ణయం తీసికోండి."

భార్య మాటలు వినిన శోభనుడు ఆమెతో "నీవు చెప్పింది అక్షరాల సత్యమే. కాని నాకు ఈ ఏకాదశి వ్రతపాలన చేయాలని ఉంది. నాకు ఏది జరగవలసి ఉందో అది జరిగియే తీరుతుంది కదా!" అని అన్నాడు.

ఈ విధంగా తలచిన శోభనుడు పవిత్ర ఏకాదశివ్రతపాలనకు ఉద్యుక్తుడయ్యాడు. కాని అతడు ఆకలిదప్పికలతో నీరసించిపోయాడు. ఇంతలో సూర్యాస్తమయం అయింది. వైష్ణవులు, పుణ్యాత్ములు అందరూ ప్రసన్నులయ్యారు. ఓ రాజసింహమా! ఆ రాత్రి వారంతా సంకీర్తన అర్చనలతో గడిపివేసారు. కాని ఆ రేయి గడపడం శోభనునికి అసాధ్యమైంది. సూర్యోదయం లోపలే అతడు దేహం చాలించాడు. ముచుకుందుడు శోభనునికి చందనపు కట్టెలతో చితిపేర్చి దహనసంస్కారాలు చేసాడు. ముచుకుందుని ఆజ్ఞ చంద్రభాగ సతీసహగమనం మేరకు మానుకుంది. భర్తకు అంత్య��్రియలు జరిగిన తరువాత ఆమె తండ్రి ఇంటిలోనే నివసించసాగింది. "రాజా! ఇంతలో రమా ఏకాదశి వ్రతపాలన ప్రభావంగా శోభనుడు దేవపురమనే రాజ్యానికి జుగా జన్మించాడు. అది మందర పర్వతము పైన ఉన్నది. రత్నఖచితమైన బంగారు స్తంభాలు కలిగినట్టిది, మణిఖచితమగు గోడలు కలిగినదియైన ఐశ్వర్యయుత ప్రాసాదములో అతడు నివసించసాగాడు. మణిమయమైన బంగారు కిరీటమును ధరించిన అతనికి తెల్లని ఛత్రము పట్టబడియుండేది. కర్ణకుండలములతో, కంఠాభరణములతో, బంగారు భుజకీర్తులతో కంకణములతో అలంకృతుడై అతడు రాజ్యసింహాసనమున కూర్చునేవాడు. గంధర్వులచే, అప్సరసలచే సేవింపబడుచు అతడు స్వర్గరాజు ఇంద్రుని వలె గోచ��ించెడివాడు. "

ఒకరోజు ముచుకుందపుర నివాసియైన సోమశర్మ అనే బ్రాహ్మణుడు శోభనుని రాజ్యానికి తీర్ధయాత్రలు చేస్తూ వచ్చాడు. శోభనుడు ముచుకుందుని అల్లుడని భావించి ఆ బ్రాహ్మణుడు అతని వద్దకు చేరాడు. బ్రాహ్మణుని చూడగానే రాజు లేచి నిలబడి, చేతులు జోడించి నమస్కరించాడు. తరువాత అతడు బ్రాహ్మణుని కుశల మడిగాడు. తరువాత ముచుకుందుడు, తన భార్య చంద్రభాగ, ముచుకుందపుర జనుల గురించిన క్షేమసమాచారాలు కూడ అడిగాడు. అపుడు బ్రాహ్మణుడు అందరి క్షేమసమాచారాలు తెలిపాడు. అక్కడ ప్రతియొక్కరు సుఖసంతోషాలతో జీవిస్తున్నారని తెలిపిన బ్రాహ్మణుడు అతనితో "రాజా! ఇంతటి సుందరమైన నగరాన్ని ఇంతకు మునుపు నేనెన్నడును చూడలేదు. నీకు ఈ రాజ్యం ఎలా లభించిందో చెప్పవలసింది" అని అడిగాడు.

"ఆశ్వీయుజ కృష్ణపక్షంలో వచ్చే రమాఏకాదశిని పాటించిన ప్రభావము వలననే నాకు ఈ తాత్కాలికమైన రాజ్యం లభించింది. ఓ బ్రాహ్మణోత్తమా! ఈ రాజ్యం శాశ్వతంగా ఉండిపోయే విధానమేమిటో నాకు చెప్పవలసినది. నేను ఏకాదశి వ్రతాన్ని శ్రద్ధారహితంగా చేసిన కారణంగా ఈ అస్థిరమైన రాజ్యం లభించింది. ఈ విషయాలను చంద్రభాగకు తెలపండి. ఆమె దీనిని సుస్థిరమొనర్చగలిగే సామర్థ్యము కలిగినట్టిది" అని శోభనుడు అన్నాడు.శోభనుని మాటలను వినిన బ్రాహ్మణుడు ముచుకుందపురానికి వచ్చి విషయమంతా చంద్రభాగకు వివరించాడు. అది వినిన చంద్రభాగ అమితానందభరితురాలు అయింది. తాను విన్నదంతా కలలాగా ఉన్నదని ఆమె పలికింది.అపుడు సోమశర్మ ఆమెతో "అమ్మా! నేను నీ భర్తను

దేవపురిలో స్వయంగా చూసాను. ఆ పురము సూర్యప్రభలతో వెలిగిపోతోంది. కాని ఆ రాజ్యం సుస్థిరంగా లేదని అతడు చెప్పాడు. కాబట్టి ఏదో విధంగా రాజ్యాన్ని నీవు సుస్థిరం చేయాలి" అని అన్నాడు. అది వినిన చంద్రభాగ తనను తన భర్త చెంతకు తీసికొని వెళ్ళమని బ్రాహ్మణుని అర్ధించింది. తన పుణ్యపరిపాకంతో ఆ రాజ్యాన్ని తాను సుస్థిరం చేయగలనని ఆమె చెప్పింది. భార్యాభర్తలైన తాము కలిసికొనే ఏర్పాట్లు చేయమని, ఆ విధంగా భార్యాభర్తలు కలిసేందుకు సహాయపడితే పుణ్యము కలుగుతుందని ఆమె బ్రాహ్మణునితో అన్నది.

తదనంతరము సోమశర్మ చంద్రభాగను మందరపర్వత సమీపంలో ఉన్నట్టి వామదేవుని ఆశ్రమానికి తీసుకొని వెళ్ళాడు. దేదీప్యమానమగు ముఖవర్చస్సు కలిగిన చంద్రభాగ యొక్క కథను వినిన తరువాత వామదేవుడు ఆమెకు వేదమంత్రోపదేశం చేసాడు. వామదేవుడు ఒసగిన మంత్ర ప్రభావం వలన ఏకాదశి వ్రతమహిమ వలన చంద్రభాగ వెంటనే ఆధ్యాత్మిక శరీరాన్ని పొందింది. తరువాత ఆమె వెంటనే వెళ్ళి ఆనందంతో తన భర్తను కలిసికొన్నది.

భార్యను చూడగానే శోభనుడు పరమానందభరితుడై పూర్ణ సంతుష్టిని పొందాడు. అపుడు చంద్రభాగ తన భర్తతో "ప్రభూ! నా మంచిమాటలు వినండి. నేను నా తండ్రి ఇంట్లో ఎనిమిదేండ్ల వయస్సు నుండే ఏకాదశివ్రత పాలనము చేస్తున్నాను. ఆ పుణ్యమంతా మీ రాజ్యాన్ని సుస్థిరం చేసి ప్రళయాంతము వరకు దీనిని సమృద్ధిగా నిలుపు గాక!" అని అన్నది. ఆ తరువాత ఆమె వివిధ నగలతో అలంకృతమైన దివ్యశరీరంతో భర్తతో కలిసి సుఖజీవనం గడిపింది. రమా ఏకాదశి ప్రభావం వలన శోభనుడు కూడ దివ్యశరీరాన్ని పొంది మందరపర్వత చరియలలో విహరించాడు. కనుక ఈ రమా ఏకాదశి కామధేనువు లేదా చింతామణి వంటిది.

శ్రీకృష్ణుడు తన సంభాషణను కొనసాగిస్తూ "రాజా! పరమమంగళమైన రమా ఏకాదశి మహిమను నీకు వివరించాను. దీనిని కచ్చితంగా పాటించేవాడు బ్రహ్మహత్యాపాతకము వంటి పాపం నుండైనా విస్సందేహముగా బయటపడతాడు. నల్లగోవు, తెల్లగోవు రెండు కూడ తెల్లనిపాలే ఇచ్చినట్లు కృష్ణపక్ష ఏకాదశి, శుక్లపక్ష ఏకాదశి రెండు కూడ వ్రతానుయాయులకు మోక్షాన్ని ప్రసాదిస్తాయి. ఈ ఏకాదశి మహిమను వినేవాడు సమస్త పాపాల నుండి బయటపడి విష్ణులోకంలో ఆనందంగా నివసిస్తాడు" అని చెప్పి ముగించాడు.

Addressing a news conference here, Pawar also said it is the moral responsibility of the major opposition parties in Maharashtra to protect in the state assembly polls the interests of smaller allies, which were part of the coalition in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The NCP (SP), Congress and the Shiv Sena (UBT) are constituents of the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), which was in power in the state from November 2019 till June 2022 before the collapse of the Thackeray-led government. Pawar said the opposition will keep a collective face before the people of Maharashtra. There is need for a change in the state and it is the moral responsibility of the opposition coalition to discharge it, Pawar said. “As Arjuna’s target (in the epic Mahabharata) was an eye (of a fish), our eyes are all set on the elections in Maharashtra. The Congress, NCP (SP) and Uddhav Thackeray’s Sena (UBT) will jointly contest the Vidhan Sabha polls,” he said. The former Maharashtra chief minister said talks on seat-sharing in the state have not begun, but will commence soon. The people gave a good response to the NCP (SP), Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, he noted. “But like these three parties, the Left parties, Peasants and Workers Party (PWP) were also a part of the coalition but we could not give them seats in the Lok Sabha. It is our moral responsibility to protect the interests of these parties,” he said. “So the efforts will be to go ahead with them (in the state assembly polls),” Pawar added. Asked about the state budget presented on Friday by the Eknath Shinde government, the NCP (SP) chief said, “What happens if you go with an empty pocket in a market? It’s a matter of a few days, reality will be seen soon.” A monthly allowance of Rs 1,500 to women in the 21 to 60 age group, three free LPG cylinders a year for households, farmer-friendly steps and a stipend of Rs 10,000 per month to youths for skill training were highlights of the Maharashtra government’s budget for 2024-25 presented on Friday, four months ahead of the state polls. Asked if he will participate in the Wari (pilgrimage) ‘palkhi’ procession which began here on Friday, Pawar said, “The palkhi travels to Pandharpur from my village in Baramati (in Pune district). I will welcome the Wari procession in Baramati.” The ‘palkhis’ (palanquins) carrying the footprints of revered saints Tukaram and Dnyaneshwar Maharaj set out from Pune’s Dehu and Alandi, respectively, to Pandharpur in Solapur district over the last two days. They will reach Lord Vitthal’s temple in Pandharpur on the occasion of Ashadhi Ekadashi on July 17. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Friday said the state government will send a proposal to United Nations agency UNESCO for world heritage nomination for the annual Pandharpur ‘wari’ which has a tradition of 1,000 years. He said the government will also set up a separate corporation to provide facilities to devotees of Lord Vitthal (called warkaris), who undertake the annual pilgrimage from Alandi and Dehu in Pune district to the Vitthal-Rukmini temple in Pandharpur. The Deputy CM also said the government has decided to provide a sum of Rs 20,000 per ‘dindi’ (group of devotees) of the pilgrimage from this year.
