Recently, I was invited to attend a cruise-in.  I’ve been to cruise-ins before, and it would be a chance for me to catch up with friends.  Since I make a habit of driving Sacrebleu to work on Fridays it seemed like a natural fit.  Work, cruise-in, let the fun ensue.  Friday ends up being gorgeous, temps reach the upper 70s, it’s going to be a great afternoon/evening for a cruise-in.  I meet up with my friend at his house, where he owns a gorgeous Monte Carlo SS tribute car.  This thing is SHARP, much cleaner and nicer than mine, like, pristine.  It really suits him.  Once we’re all ready to go, we pile into our respective cars and head to the spot.  Part of the trip seemed to take place in Mexico, where the speed limits are different.  Two classic American Big Block V8 engines gulping air through spreadbore carburetors, turning gas into GLORIOUS noise, and accelerating, WOOOOOO!  There was some serious ‘MURICA going on there, YEAH BROTHER!  We approach the cruise-in, and I start looking for parking, as I’m used to cruising IN to the spot, parking, and then checking out cars.  I find a suitable place right off the main drag, lock the doors, hop out and start walking.  

Whoa.  It’s...not what I thought it was.  It’s...a Cruise-In.  As in, people are CRUISIN’.  WHAT?!  Mind BLOWN.  Man, do I hop back in my ride, or what?!  After giving it a moment’s thought, I end up leaving Sacrebleu parked, and walk along the Main Street.  Parked cars line the street, and the road itself is filled with classics, bumper to bumper, bumping along, snorting, making noise and fumes, and IT’S SO GOOD.  I’ve lost track of my friend, but I’m not too concerned.  We both have phones and know how to use them.  I walk a few blocks up the main drag, and find a good spot to watch the cars go by.  

Three OLD Big Rigs come rolling through, blocking the intersection as traffic is moving so slowly.  One of the rigs was a 2 stroke diesel, the driver was making the most of the stop and go, with awesome diesel clatter sounds on acceleration and deceleration.  I kinda feel badly for ordinary commuters trying to escape the retro auto madness, the mood is super good, people are having a good time, and laid back.  It’s a family thing, multi-generational.  Moms, Dads, Grandmothers, Grandfathers, Grandchildren!  I see one Dad driving an older station wagon with 4 kids hanging out the window, waving peace signs at everybody, none of those kids looked like they’d had their 10th birthday yet.  I saw older couples in Modern Muscle, teens in lifted trucks of all brands, Chevy, Ford, Toyota, whatever, standing in the beds of the trucks, hootin’ and hollerin’, even trying to trade T-shirts!  HOW FUN IS THAT?!  There’s a grandmother next to me with her 6-7 year old grandson, when a new C8 Corvette comes rolling by.  It’s debadged, so unless you know what you’re looking at, you can’t read the badging to find out.  The kid’s jaw dropped.  It was quite a scene.  

I catch up with my friend, and see him driving toward me.  I get some great photos of his car, and video as he drives past, which I immediately send via message.  Shortly after passing where I was standing, he pulls into a parking spot and we meet up.  Turns out the Monte was getting a wee bit toasty hot, and wasn't doing well in the stop and go traffic.  We make our way to find another spot to watch the cars cruise by, as the day dims with the sun setting, and headlights begin to illuminate the scene.  It’s beautiful, the shiny cars, the works in progress, the beaters, the barely street legal cars, just a good time.  

Oh.  SacrebleuTube.  Yeah, she’s featured in the opening scene of a video, in the background as the YouTube content creator begins his video.  She’s a looker, even in the background.
