The Ladybird spider! Photo by Zoran Gavrilovic.
Some fun facts about this spider . . .
• Eresus sandaliatus, otherwise known as the ladybird spider, is a species of spider found primarily in northern and Central Europe. Like other species of the genus Eresus, it is commonly called ladybird spider because of the coloration of the male, they mimic the ladybird beetle (commonly known as the ladybug). The Ladybird Spider is sadly extremely endangered in the UK.
• Ladybird spiders live in burrows with silk trip-wires covered with dense fluffy threads that radiate outwards to catch their prey. These include including devil's coach horse and violet ground beetles!
• Females mature after 4-5 years, but may live a few years longer if not found by a male.

LEDYCEIT & LEDYCEPTIV (Bug/Poison)
This spider pokemon have evolved to mimic LEDYBA & LEDIAN which are their natural prey. They will infiltrate their swarms and separate the weakest members to devour them. They are able to mimic not only their appearance but their ability to comunicate through scent, altough the chemicals they use are mixed with a toxic substance that numbs its preys senses and lowers their ability to see through their disguise. Their "antenae" are actually modified mandibles with wich they can inject a powerful paralyzing toxin.
LEDYCEIT comes from Ladybird and Deceit (the action or practice of deceiving someone by concealing or misrepresenting the truth) LEDYCEPTIV comes from Ladybird and Deceptive (giving an appearance or impression different from the true one; misleading)
People really liked my other MIMIC POKEMON so I decided to make more, not sure if they should be considered convergent evolutions or simply mimic pokemons tho.
They are based on the Ladybird-mimic spiders (Paraplectana Sp.) and the male Ladybird Spider (Eresus sandaliatus)

Ladybird spider. (Eresus sandaliatus)
Just look at this fabulous little fellow.
The ladybird spider is one of the rarest spiders found in the UK, but are also found scattered across the rest of northern and central Europe.
The males are just unbelievably snazzy (he looks like he's got a teeny tiny apron on). They have a bright orangey-red back with four large black spots just above two smaller ones - hence where they get their adorable name.
Females and juvenile males are all black and quite a bit larger. Although the females may not be as flashy as the adult males, they deserve an award for mum of the year without a doubt.
The female will rarely leave her burrow and the male only emerges for two weeks in May to breed. After mating, the female lays up to 80 eggs in an adorable little cocoon and guards them until the spiderlings (cutest name for a baby animal EVER) hatch in July or August. She feeds them entirely on her regurgitated food, until finally the spiderlings eat their own mother.
So, just to clarify, she sits and guards her eggs for two/three months in a dusty burrow, then gives them all of her food,
THEN LETS THEM EAT HER.
Female ladybird spiders - taking one for the team.
