anyway because i have the locked tomb disease (critical) when yuta turned his mother’s death into a dramatic explosion it made me think a lot about how harrow’s mind rewrote all the events of canaan house in her mind theatre. like yuta who ran away from the task of filming his mother’s death because the act of recording it would mean that it was real, harrow can’t admit that gideon is dead because that admission would make her death final.

was talking w my partner about this today but it is absolutely mind blowing To Me that all the frames in goodbye, eri (except for a few double spreads & one-page layout which serves its own purpose) hinted that we have been watching a movie from the very beginning. the scene cuts at every page turn, each page is almost always nearly 8 panels (frames) and each panel is drawn in a way that is distinctively cinematic. because of this, the pages that break out of these conventions in turn create a massive sense of disorientation, where abruptly the manga looks like, well, a normal manga with a girl actually occupying that world.

but was any of this real at all? where does eri-the-vampire-in-the-movie end and eri-the-girl begin? what if there has never been eri? what if every eri is eri?
