People ask me what living in Israel is like and what Israelis are like and all I have to say is that the employee at the post office made this lady cry…and everyone in line was just like “this is fine and completely normal”…and we all pretty much agreed with the postal worker.
And then leaving the post office to come home I almost died just trying to pull into my garage because this person was crossing the road and I had to wait and the guy behind me sped around me because he couldn’t wait two seconds…but then again, I kind of don’t blame him because I saw that he was racing to take an open parking spot down the road and like, I get it.
And then my neighbor told me she made babka and I thought she was just making conversation but five minutes later she was knocking on my door. She did make babka. She made several loaves and gifted me one. An entire loaf of babka. Just because.
And then there’s singing and dancing in the street for someone’s birthday. And someone yelled out ‘Mazal tov!’ to this stranger and then several more people chimed in until it was just a chorus of people wishing this random girl a happy birthday.
It is chaos. Israel is chaos. And it’s not for everyone. It can be very jarring for Americans especially. But I love it so much.
