The festival has a bunch of different shows at different locations and I went to the one in Queen Elizabeth stadium last week which was pretty cheap especially for a student (HK$50, that's like US$6) and that's where I got my first taste of The Exchange, an a capella boy band from USA. (to be honest that sounds really lame. It's more like a man group who can sing and beatbox practically every song and genre.)
Anyways. March 24, 2013, New Town Plaza, Shatin, Hong Kong. Utterly free of charge and exposed under the cloudy sky. It was raining just an hour before the concert officially started, but miraculously not a drop of rain fell during the whole show. The sun actually shone through the thick layer of clouds for some time.
There were other groups there, like Maytree (Korean) and Hong Kong Melody Makers (Hong Kong). Too bad Oxford Out Of The Blue (Britain) wasn't there though. But The Exchange was the last group on stage and everyone just rushed to the edge of the stage. I managed to squeeze into the second row. Yippee!
The Exchange performed a few songs, like I'm A Lonely Boy (I think that's the name), Payphone (and also a song by Alicia Keys whose name I forgot), and the 2012 Rio de Janeiro Olympics song. And there was also an interactive solo by their beatboxer, Richard Steighner, which was simply incredible. He pulled up a chair, see, and he was sitting so close I could touch him.
One of the best performances, I think, was Payphone, because 1. Aaron, the leader, took a fan's phone and recorded a close-up video of the members as well as himself while singing which made the crowd go wild and 2. near the end of the song they invited four little kids onstage who danced along and they were so freaking CUTE. And Aaron was so nice to them. Gawd how I wished I was one of those kids. Or the owner of that phone.
In the break between songs, a bunch of fangirls screamed "AARON" and there was a lot of cheering and whooping. Then I yelled "RICHARD" real loud (but no one else did- gawd that was so mortifying) and there was cheering, only not a lot. I dunno why not that many people like Richard. I think he's the best ever.
Anyhow, after the performance, we could go get their autographs and take pictures (ASDFGHJKL SPAZZING). They were so nice. I got to take pictures with Richard (shown), Jamal, Chris and Alfredo (not shown because my friend is in there and I dunno if she wants her face to be here).
Also got autographs from Richard, Aaron and Jamal (shown). I couldn't get a photo with Aaron because 1. he was in high demand amongst the screaming fangirls and 2. I had a feeling that he thought me very greedy. Welp. And probably 3. (even though this is highly unlikely) he remembered my face from the horde of screaming, pushing fangirls last Saturday. (To clear things up, I was NOT one of the pushing ones. I did tell Aaron he's better than Justin Bieber though. 'Cause that night they performed a JB song.)
But hey, I'm not complaining. I got both an autograph and a photo with my idol and favourite beatboxer Richard Steighner. AND a proper conversation (albeit a bit too short for my liking) that did not include hyperventilating and spazzing. This is how it went:
Me: hey I love your beatboxing you're awesome
Him: thanks!
Me: And I watch your youtube videos
Him: *looks pleasantly surprised*
Me: especially the saxophone one
Him: Yeah! Thanks! *high fives me*
HE HIGH FIVED ME.
HE FREAKING HIGH FIVED ME.
AEIURGHVLOIFJDZOJS7LRIUTAHJBSLIVUGMXJSBLZIGJ
(I should probably be an actress because of my brilliant acting skills. Didn't spazz one bit. In front of him, at least. That being said, I was sad to wash my hand after taking a piss later that day.)

Autographs- top Aaron, middle Richard, bottom Jamal. "Cheryl, we <3 you" by Aaron (gotta love my friend. She said "her name's Cheryl" all of a sudden and Aaron wrote that message. Argh how can I ever repay her <3)

It was such an honor to tour Europe and sing 32 concerts with these guys.@backstreetboys are like our big brothers- amazing performers/musicians and genuinely good men. It was so great getting to know them and their families on the road. We're so grateful they took a chance on us! Hope to work together again soon!

Déjà Vu
(Alfredo) I see her across the room She looks back and we lock eyes Target set, Aim locked in I can tell that she’s my type
She’s in my trance, playing my game And I know just what she likes And now here she’s in my arms But something isn’t right
She has your hair and has your style But when she laughs, I see your smile I close my eyes when we kiss But your lips don’t feel like this
(All) It’s Deja vu (ooo) Of me and you (ooo) And the things you do (ooo) It’s like Deja Vu but she’s not you
It’s Deja vu (ooo) Of me and you (ooo) And the things you do (ooo) It’s like Deja Vu but she’s not you
(Christopher) Its like deja vu of you and me When I look into her eyes The problem is I just cant seem To get you off my mind
Every night, I search the crowd but I just cant seem to find A girl that makes me feel complete Am I just wasting my time
(Alfredo) She has your hair and she has your style But When she laughs, I see your smile I hold her tightly when we move But Im wishin’ she were you
(All) It’s Deja vu (ooo) Of me and you (ooo) And the things you do (ooo) It’s like Deja Vu but she’s not you
It’s Deja vu (ooo) Of me and you (ooo) And the things you do (ooo) It’s like Deja Vu but she’s not you
(Aaron) On the road, feeling alone I count days but they move slow At night Im searching for your clone But dreaming about coming home
(Jamal) The eyes she’s giving me are only screaming danger Oops I almost called her your name, she could be your doppelgänger She said excuse me J I’m looking for some trouble Hey, I know you got a girl but tonight I’ll be her stunt double I hear you boo but I gotta decline your invitation If we left here we’d end up in a sticky situation Now you definitely caught my eye with the way you move But you’ll never ever fill her shoes It’s just
(All) It’s Deja vu (ooo) Of me and you (ooo) And the things you do (ooo) It’s like Deja Vu but she’s not you
It’s Deja vu (ooo) Of me and you (ooo) And the things you do (ooo) It’s like Deja Vu but she’s not you, no no

Get Up And Go
(Richard) Check my hair, check my head, Check my phone for what I said Guess we’re hanging out today out on the sand
(Christopher) Should I stay or should I go The empty cups are saying no Cover up your sunburned skin it’s back to work I know
(Richard and Aaron) I saw you run by the water I lost my way on the way back home
(All) This place could be the death of me, the death of me, I could be running for the rest of my life This place could get the best of me, the best of me Can’t keep waitin’ for the stars to align
woahhh woahhh gotta get up and go (x2) woahhh woahhh gotta get up and go (x2)
(Alfredo) Back to work and staying late Saving up to get away It never seems I’m going anywhere these days
(Richard) I tell myself, I tell myself, I tell myself, I tell myself It’s gonna be ok
(Richard and Aaron) I saw you down by the water I found my way when I left my home
(All) I stuck around ‘cuz it was hard to leave; now I can breathe What I love is gonna keep me alive So I’m just looking for the best of me, the best of me, The only way my soul can survive
woahhh woahhh gotta get up and go (x2) woahhh woahhh gotta get up and go (x2)

The Good Fight
(Christopher) I don’t think my weary heart can take much more of this We’re jumping to the end for an innocent kiss I don’t think these tired eyes can much longer withstand The footprints of a man when there’s nowhere to stand
(Richard) The strain on my muscles and organs and veins Have all my bones ringing with sirens in pain The timid and hungry that march through my brain The myriad fearful all wander the same:
(Aaron) If I don’t care, who will?
(All) If I can’t fight the good fight (Can I ever be, ever say I was right) If I don’t cross the line (Can I ever say that I was anyone?) We’re running out of time (Don’t say I never tried to tell you babe) So take my hand, we’ll try For a better time, for a better way
(Christopher) I don’t think this throat can ring one more word to the mind That a heart is bound to thump far outside of its time
(Richard) The strain on my muscles and organs and veins Have all my bones ringing with sirens, in pain The timid and hungry that march through my brain The myriad fearful all wander the same:
(Christopher) The strain on my muscles and organs and veins Have all my bones ringing with sirens, in pain The timid and hungry that march through my brain The myriad fearful all wander the same:

We’re running out of time (Don’t say I never tried to tell you babe) So take my hand, we’ll try For a better time, for a better way It’s the fight of our lives Gotta try

Gone
(Alfredo) I should’ve known you were trouble from the start I should’ve know you were gonna break my heart, but When you walked in with that skirt And you on the floor putting in that work And your hour glass figure loin so damn perfect Caused a chain reaction and lapse in judgement
(Aaron) But little did I know you Were a professional you Burn me like a firecracker Wreck me like a natural disaster Back and forth like a piece of elastic Stole my heart but I’m takin’ it back
(All) And I’m gone I’m gone I’m done playin’ your games and now I’m gone I’m gone I’m done playin’ your games and now I’m gone
(Alfredo) (Betcha never thought it’d end like this, Betcha never thought it’d end like this, did ya) Gone! (Betcha never thought it’d end like this, Betcha never thought it’d end like this did ya)
I should’ve looked for the signs that said that you were crazy I should’ve looked for the signs that said that you would play me
(Aaron and Christopher) But I was blinded, when you came into my sight And you were hiding, behind the sweetest disguise
(Aaron) Little did I know you Were a professional you Burn me like a firecracker Wreck me like a natural disaster Back and forth like a piece of elastic Stole my heart but I’m takin’ it back,
(All) And I’m gone I’m gone I’m done playin’ your games and now I’m gone I’m gone I’m done playin’ your games and now I’m gone
(Alfredo) (Betcha never thought it’d end like this, Betcha never thought it’d end like this, did ya) Gone! (Betcha never thought it’d end like this, Betcha never thought it’d end like this did ya)
(Jamal) Once upon a time we had a magical thing We were building our fairytale and I was the king I held you high upon a stoop and you could do no wrong But now I’m feeling so free, call this my swan song This’ll be on the charts and I wont flex But I promise you’ll feel as dumb as Beyonce’s ex Yea you were playing games and you made your mess But shawty you were playing checkers and I was playing chess I considered you a pawn so I paid you no mind Cause I knew you could never handle being a queen on the backline It feels so good to be out of danger And months from now you’ll try to hit me with the “hey stranger” Naw naw it’s all gravy baby I’ma keep it moving you don’t phase me baby Let me say one more thing just before I go Now I’m just somebody that you used to blow I’m gone…
(Alfredo) Step to the left I’m through with this I don’t wanna hear how much you’l miss me You already know that I’m not listenin’ Girl, you just been dismissed I’m done plain your games and now I’m gone

Kerosene
(Richard) All we’ve got Is us tonight And all we want Is in our sights. Let’s make a toast Hope for the most Let’s light it up tonight
Light the match It’s your turn Toss it out Watch it burn Let’s make a toast Hope for the most Let’s light it up tonight
(Alfredo) Oh yeah I feel the heat It’s burning up my throat, yeah It’s coming close But still I want some more I forgot the time It’s the middle of the night, yeah The sun went down, yeah All I see is bright
(Aaron) You be the kerosene And I will be your fire You be the fuse that’s lit And I will be your dynamite You be the kerosene And I will be your fire I will be your fire Fire!
(Christopher) Dusk to dawn No looking back Nothing’s wrong This ain’t too fast Let’s make a toast Hope for the most Let’s light it up tonight
(Alfredo) Oh yeah I feel the heat It’s burning up my throat, yeah It’s coming close But still I want some more, yeah I forgot the time It’s the middle of the night, yeah The sun is down, yeah All I see is bright
(Aaron) You be the kerosene And I’ll be your fire You be the fuse that’s lit And I will be your dynamite You’ll be the kerosene And I’ll be your fire I will be your fire Fire!
(Christopher) I think I’m burning up I think I’m burning up I think I’m burning up Burning, burning I think I’m burning up I think I’m burning up I think I’m burning up Up up up
(Aaron) I fell in the night Fell into your light Don’t know how we got here I fell in the night Fell into your light Whoa!
You be the kerosene And I will be your fire You be the fuse that’s lit And I will be your dynamite You be the kerosene And I will be your fire You be the fuse that’s lit And I will be your dynamite

Back Where We Began
(Alfredo) I’m home again It’s nice to see the faces I haven’t seen since then And seeing all the familiar places I’ve ever been And then
(Jamal) You’re standing there in your sundress My heart beats fast, I’m so nervous That picture on my dresser top, It brings me right on back
(Alfredo) I wish I could close my eyes Go Back in time Hop in the DeLorean go 88 Just so I could see your face again And we’d end up right back where we began
I’m home again Go take off my shoes Heading up the stairs Close the door to my room
(Aaron) It doesn’t seem so long ago That I left you for the road And the tears that hit the pillow They’re still there
(All) I wish I could close my eyes Go Back in time Hop in the DeLorean go 88 Just so I could see your face again And we’d end up right back where we began
(Christopher) Same place, same time No tears for you to cry I just, wanna see you Wanna see you, I just wanna see you, Again, again
(All) I wish I could close my eyes Go Back in time Hop in the DeLorean go 88 Just so I could see your face again And we’d end up right back where we began
