Girl help I know I didn't just see a post that was like "pathologic has racism in it therefore the narrative is racist." Like. YEAH. When you're criticizing things please have some fucking media literacy and criticize the parts that are Actually problematic. The game is extremely upfront about the colonialism and racism. It's literally essential to understanding the deeper themes. People on tumblr dot com just can't turn off their fandom brains and ignore everything in classic HD after their first Bachelor playthrough so they can draw the main whiteboy getting rawed LMFAO.

A heart-warming tale from Berlin

My blog mixes fact and fantasy for erotic effect and as enjoyable as that can be, I try not to delude myself and limit my expectations in the real world. Every so often though, I will read an article in a serious journal or paper that will make me do a double take to see if I haven’t accidentally clicked on a fetish blog. Today I want to share one such story.

It’s an article from Berlin-based newspaper Tagesspiegel about the “gangs of Marzahn”, Marzahn being a gentrifying working class neighborhood in Berlin with a sizeable non-white population. It’s advertised as a generic story about youth crime, but then you read it and ... well, I’ll just translate the relevant passages for you, add some visuals and share my two cents later.

Four police cruisers stop near Marzahn’s Eastgate mall to investigate a break-in at the nearby elementary school. The officers spread out to search the area, but the youngsters they are looking for have long vanished. Ten minutes later, the police give up.

Things quiet down for a while. Then we spot three girls, maybe 14 to 16 years old, sharing the same look: leggings, cigarettes and cell phones.

“WhatsApp told them the coast is clear,” says Uwe Heide, a social worker observing the scene. Other groups of young women approach, then some groups of young men. Half an hour later, the place is packed. Beyoncé plays from big speakers and there’s lots of smoking, drinking and general cavorting. “They’re chasing each other”, Heide adds. (...)

The general composition of these groups is known to the authorities: “They consist of male adolescents with migrant backgrounds and female adolescents who live in the general area. The male groups feature recently arrived adolescent refugees, but also sons of immigrants who have been living here their whole lives.” A few of them come all the way from other parts of the city to join in.

“The girls are the motivating factor here,” says Heide, who has been doing street outreach at Eastgate. He and his colleagues have long been confused by their presence. It took them a good bit of observation and dialogue to figure out that the girls are basically coaxing young migrant men to come to the Eastgate mall. The young men, in turn, are convinced that their female companions are “easy”. “They’re competing for these girls”, Heide says. It’s a completely new challenge for him. “We have no expertise to fall back on here,” he says.

These young women come from good homes, they’re white German and generally middle class. This makes it hard for a social worker to entice them with anything. Heide sounds like he’s at his wit’s end. (...)

Things look peaceful enough at the hangout spot. The youngsters stand around in groups; every so often, girls will circle boys and vice versa. Some are holding hands, there’s a bit of kissing. It has all the makings of a courtship dance.

Paula is 14, wears white sneakers, skinny jeans and a red shirt, all pricey brand-name clothes. “These guys are just such great fun. They’re up for anything,” she says, eating some ice cream. The boys from her school, on the other hand, bore her; they’re glued to their computer screens, she says. She’s here three or four times a week together with her twin sister, always in the afternoons after school. What does she like about her new friends? “They’re always here for us. One call and we’re rolling.” Just then one of her girlfriends walks over carrying a bottle of blue Prosecco. Paula throws away her ice cream and follows her. The group returns a short while later, slightly tipsy, no bottle in sight. Do her parents know what she’s up to here, we ask? Paula just laughs at us in response.

The article already touches on this twice, but it’s important to note that these aren’t trashy chav girls just because they’re smoking and drinking at 14. For better or worse, that is the age when German teenagers of all social strata start smoking and drinking. The difference is that, at least 10 years ago, prim middle class girls in expensive sneakers would have done their partying in some rich whiteboi’s pool house. Of course that’s not going to happen anymore if you automatically reject your white male peers for being boring nerds and aren’t shy to tell journalists about it either. Absolutely devastating, lol.

What I would really like to know is what cover story they’re telling their parents about their exploits. Middle class parents in Germany are no less snoopy than elsewhere and being away from home all week has to raise some questions. They must have cooked up some elaborate tale and stuck to it, collectively, because if one of them was found out, they’d all be in trouble. The commitment here is astonishing, all so they can party their days away with dreamy migrant beaus.

Obviously there’s a lot of teenage hedonism involved here and most of these girls will grow out of it at some point. But the thing about teenage hedonism is not that it’s an inaccurate reflection of what we want to do; it’s rather a hyper-accurate reflection of what many of us wish we could still be doing, but alas, we now have responsibilities and less energy than our teen selves. These girls may settle down at some point, but they will always be thinking back to this. I’d hate to be the guy who will forever be compared to refugee romance at Eastgate mall.

This is really happening and it’s so happening that it even became a story in a German newspaper. At this pace, I’ll soon be able to graduate from IR blogger to legit journalist and hardly anyone will be able to tell the difference.

Allies are cool, but you wanna know something that Black people have not discovered that is better than allies? Infrastructure!!! For instance, WhiteBoy Rick will be getting out of prison in a few days and already he has tons of job offers.. he'll probably come home to a job making $50K a year with no education beyond high school.. I mean, dude has been sitting in prison for 30+ years and before that he was a cocaine wholesaler.. but yet, his peoples got him.. meanwhile, Black college graduates like myself struggle and have to take jobs beneath our qualifications just to put food on our tables.. even with no felonies (mine was expunged). Is that fair? No.. life is not fair, nor was it made to be fair.. life was made to be lived and it's up to you to make it fair for yourself.. but the reason many Black millennials have found ourselves in this predicament is because our parents, be it Black Baby Boomers or older member of Black Gen X were busy begging for a place at someone else's table instead of building their own so that they could put us in a position to win as technology evolved.. now don't get me wrong, some did.. but most didn't. Instead they told us to start from scratch and do things the exact way that they did... but the game they taught us how to play doesn't exist anymore.. INFRASTRUCTURE!!! That's what we need... until we get on code financially we will continue to be exploited nonstop.. and no amount of marching, protesting, or voting will stop it. 💯
