I have always envisioned E Gadd as like a grandfatherly type figure towards Luigi and just Luigi. And for some reason Mario and E Gadd have like a rivalry, more one sided than anything, with Mario having beef with E Gadd especially with what happened in Sunshine. Mario just doesn't trust the old man but he is still grateful for him for giving Luigi the poltergust to help save him but he also doesn't like the fact that E Gadd made a clone of Luigi without him knowing. Where as E Gadd honestly doesn't really care about what Mario thinks, all he cares about are his inventions, the ghosts and Luigi(sometimes).

Honestly... I don't see it. Elvin Gadd is chaotic good, but he is good. He may be the definition of "just because you can doesn't mean you should," but he's a friendly chap who ultimately means well.

As much as I like a slightly grumpier Mario, you can't deny he's very accepting of anyone who isn't actively malicious, and while E. Gadd made Bowser Jr.'s paintbrush, he was also the guy who made F.LU.D.D.

Mario's just too nice to have beef with a quirky old man who's a grandpa figure to his brother, no matter how many messes he makes or laws of nature he breaks.
