These experiences immerse visitors in the local culture while offering moments of tranquility and adventure, making Rajasthan a must-visit destination for every traveler.
Tumblr media
Here are some unique things to do in Rajasthan.
1. A Thar Desert camel safari:
Tumblr media
Sail through the vast Thar Desert on a camel safari, one of Rajasthan's most iconic and unique experiences. For starting this adventure, cities like Jaisalmer, also referred to as the "Golden City," provide the ideal starting point. You'll see the stark beauty of the desert up close as you traverse the golden sand dunes on the back of a camel. You can choose to go on a day trip or prolong your adventure by spending the night under the stars camping in the desert. For a full cultural immersion, these safaris frequently feature traditional Rajasthani performances, regional food, and a bonfire. This is an incredibly memorable experience because of the calm tranquility of the desert and the excitement of riding a camel.
2. Remain in a Historic Mansion:
Tumblr media
Rajasthan is well known for its lavish palaces, many of which are now upscale historical hotels. There's no better way to immerse yourself in the splendor of Rajasthan's past than by booking a stay at one of these royal residences. These hotels, which range from the magnificent Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur to the breathtaking Lake Palace in Udaipur, combine traditional charm and contemporary conveniences. You'll experience a life fit for a king or queen, surrounded by exquisite furnishings, dexterous carvings, and stunning architecture. In addition to expansive gardens and courtyards, these palaces frequently have royal dining rooms where you may enjoy real Rajasthani food. A visit to a heritage hotel is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the splendor and grace of Rajasthan's past.
3. Discover Jodhpur, the Blue City:
Tumblr media
Jodhpur presents a singular visual treat. Known as the "Blue City" because of the blue-painted houses in its old town. Discovering this vibrant city's tiny streets is an adventure in and of itself. There are many photo opportunities to be had when the view of the blue houses contrasts with the dry landscape. Although the colour blue has historically been connected to Brahmins, or the priestly class, many other people have also come to embrace the colour. Strolling around the streets, you'll come across old havelis, thriving markets, and regional artisans. One of India's biggest and most striking forts, Mehrangarh Fort, towers over the Blue City. Travelers can experience a unique combination of historical insight and cultural immersion when they explore Jodhpur.
4. Attend the Camel Fair in Pushkar:
One of Rajasthan's biggest and most distinctive cultural events is the Pushkar Camel Fair. Every year, the lively Pushkar fair draws traders from all over Rajasthan who come to buy and sell horses, camels, and other livestock. Pushkar is a small town. The fair offers a range of competitions, including camel races and beauty pageants, traditional Rajasthani music, and dance shows, in addition to the camel trading. Shoppers can take in the vibrant atmosphere or indulge in local jewelry, crafts, and textiles. The fair, which usually takes place in October or November, offers a unique chance to get a close-up look at rural life and Rajasthani cultural customs.
5. Flight in a Hot Air Balloon over Jaipur:
A hot air balloon ride over Jaipur offers breathtaking views of the Pink City's famous landmarks and is an incredibly unique and thrilling experience. You'll be treated to breathtaking panoramic views of the Amber Fort, City Palace, Jal Mahal, and the busy markets below as you float gently above the city at sunrise or sunset. The ride offers a tranquil diversion from the bustle of the city and a distinctive viewpoint of Jaipur's royal architecture and the surrounding countryside. For thrill-seekers and those seeking a romantic or family-friendly adventure, this aerial adventure is an excellent way to see the city from a new perspective.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, Rajasthan offers a blend of unique and unforgettable experiences that go beyond the ordinary. Whether it's riding camels through the Thar Desert, exploring the Blue City of Jodhpur, or attending the vibrant Pushkar Camel Fair, this land of royalty promises something special for every traveler. These unique activities allow visitors to connect with the state's rich cultural heritage and majestic landscapes. Famous Five Art Nostalgia #LC17 – Part 2
Introductory post
Introduction to ‘Les Cinq’
‘Les Cinq’ Masterpost
🛕🐘💖 Les Cinq et le diamant bleu / Les Cinq et le rubis d’Akbar
Original publication date: 1979 (France), never published in the UK
Tumblr media
(Cover art by Munch and Prunier, 2000)
Plot summary:
(Disclaimer: All provided translations are my own.)
The Kirrin family is travelling to India thanks to Mr Kirrin’s attending a two week’ scientific conference. After landing in Delhi and a quick visit of the city, the Kirrins head for Jaipur (Rajasthan), where they will be hosted by Mr Singh, an archaeologist who’s a friend of Mr Kirrin’s.
Mr Singh’s son, Shiv, shows the Five around the city.
Tumblr media
(Shiv gets introduced to the Five)
When searching for money to pay for a purchase on the market, Shiv is visibly disturbed when he finds a red heart-shaped stone in his pocket, and he quickly throws it away. Intrigued by this action, Timmy and George pick it up on the sly.
Tumblr media
(Later on, George proudly shows her cousins the clue that she and Timmy picked up)
Later on, while they are continuing their shopping, a man approaches Anne and slashes the parcel she is holding into the shape of a heart. The children realise that the man had already been lurking around them that morning when the incident with the red stone occurred.
Tumblr media
(Timmy makes a new friend at the market!)
On the next day, two other incidents occur, first Shiv gets hit by a stone while the group is listening to musicians playing, and then while attending a snake charmer show, one of the snake handlers sicks a cobra towards Shiv, before calling the snake back. The Five are intrigued by these repeated attacks, but Shiv is reluctant to offer an explanation.
Tumblr media
(An alarming incident!)
After yet another incident where Shiv receives a threatening message, Shiv finally explains that two months earlier, on an archaeological dig in Fatehpur, near Agra, his father had discovered a cache of jewels belonging to Akbar the Great. The jewels were put on display in a museum, and stolen three days later. A red heart-shaped ruby from the collection had been given to Mr Singh by the Indian government as thanks for his find. The day after the theft, a man called Omar offered to buy the ruby back from Mr Singh (which the latter refused), before making several attempts to steal it, claiming to be a descendant of Akbar. Faced with these repeated attacks on him and his family, Mr Singh finally decides to notify the police.
Tumblr media
(Shiv receives a message from a very peculiar messenger!)
Tumblr media
(The police detective, Mr Rathor, examines the stone retrieved by George, but is rather sceptical about the whole thing)
On the next day, the children are visiting Amber Fort, with part of the visit involving an elephant ride. At some point, the elephant handler pricks the elephant's trunk with his staff and causes it to stampede with the children on its back.
Tumblr media
(A dangerous ride!)
When informed of this latest incident, Mr Singh steadfastly refuses to be intimidated and give in to the blackmail, but suggests that Shiv and the Five leave Jaipur for a while to visit Agra and the dig site.
Tumblr media
(The girls knock on the boys' door to discuss the latest events)
But being away does not make the attackers stop their attempts, as Shiv narrowly misses a knife that was thrown at him during a visit of Fatehpur Sikri. The Five set off in pursuit of the culprit, who manages to escape.
Tumblr media
(The Five go on an acrobatic chase to catch up with the young beggar who threw a knife at Shiv, but the culprit ultimately escapes)
On a visit to the Taj Mahal in the evening, Shiv is targeted again when someone tries to push him over a railing.
Back in Jaipur after a few days in Agra, the children learn that Mr and Mrs Singh as well as George’s parents have all been victims of food poisoning. The police investigation, led by Mr Rathor, a friend of Mr Singh, is not making any progress. Rathor says that he suspects Durga, who has been a loyal servant of the Singhs for years.
Tumblr media
(With Shiv’s help, the Five keep a watchful eye on Durga)
Shiv doesn't believe that Durga is anything but loyal, but the man has indeed seemed downcast since the series of attacks began. A skilful interrogation by the Five leads Durga to confess that his cousin is being paid by Omar to betray the Singhs and urges Durga to do so, which he is reluctant to do.
Tumblr media
(Mr Singh shows the Five the ruby that is the cause of their problems)
The Five now have a lead to find Omar, and ask Durga to get his cousin to organise a rendezvous with Omar so that the children can follow him. Julian manages to take a photo of Omar, and Mr Rathor later identifies the man as Omar Hafid, a rich and supposedly honourable businessman.
Tumblr media
(Tailing Omar…)
Durga meets his cousin again the next day and receives instructions to let the door to the Singhs’ residence open for Omar to enter, in exchange for a promised sum of money. At night, the whole household is woken by a fire alarm.
Tumblr media
(Fire! 🔥😱)
Amidst the chaos, someone knocks Mr Singh unconscious and steals the box containing the ruby. The Five find the culprit in the crowd and follow him to Omar's car down the street. Timmy attacks, followed by the children, and after a scuffle Omar and his henchman are overpowered. Omar confesses to the police.
Tumblr media
(A tumultuous chase!)

Rajasthani Hand Block Print: Unveiling the Rich Heritage and Timeless Beauty
Tumblr media
In the present world of fast fashion and public demand for cheaper fabrics. The traditional art of Rajasthani hand block printing is still holding strong in the hand block print fabric industry. The small villages and towns in Rajasthan have been practicing the traditional art of hand block printing for several generations. The areas of Sanganer, Bagru, and Ajmer have been major producers of block-printed textiles in Rajasthan. The locals follow a tradition of passing down handblock printing techniques to their children as a legacy. Everything related to royalty and palatial grace is directly reflected in the Rajasthani hand block print fabric, which is famously available in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Each of the traditional hand block printing designs is painstakingly designed and transferred onto superior-grade cotton textiles, which are then hand crafted into various items of home furnishing and bed linen. Fine prints depicting local flora and fauna in beautiful colors are the trademark of Sanganeri handblock printing. No one can tell the exact timeline of when and who was the originator of Rajasthani hand block printing. As far as folklore goes, this exquisite craft of hand-made block printing flourished in Rajasthan. Mainly in the 12th century during the reign of Parmar and Chauhan rulers. The Chippa community has been using the current format in the Jaipur region for at least the past 500 years. The Bagru village is famous for its vegetable dyes and mud-resist block prints.
The designs are carved on wooden blocks with precision, and then these blocks are dipped in dye to print the design onto fabric. The majority of designs are nature-inspired, and Jaipur fabric printers frequently use images of flowers, leaves, trees, birds, and animals in their products. Jaipur is synonymous with all things royal and luxurious, and so is the perception of traditional block print textiles from Jaipur, and it is rightly so. Dmaasa takes pride in presenting carefully curated Jaipur handblock print fabric online. To give you the most comfortable use, our artisans always use soft-to-the-touch and breathable textiles to create hand block prints on Jaipur cotton fabric for wholesale.
Rajasthani hand block print : Back in History-
The history of printing designs on textiles can be traced back at least 4000 years to when it was practiced in China, but the timeless beauty of Rajasthani hand block printing is unsurpassed. The Chippas were extremely adept at using natural plant-based dyes and modifying them with metallic salts to produce color and durability. They could also make dabu, which allows dying only the outlines and leaving some fabric free of any color. This made hand block printing a special art in Rajasthan, and its products were coveted across the county and in foreign lands equally. Take a glimpse towards the features of Rajasthani Hand block print -
Hand-block-printed textiles have been a favorite among people who value true craftsmanship and quality products of natural origin. There are some defining features of Rajasthani hand block print that distinguish it from other printed fabrics and give it a unique identity.
Traditional Craftsmanship:
Printing on fabric with hand-made wooden blocks is something artisans learn from their parents or grandparents, who have learned from their predecessors. This honorable technique remains in the family through generations, and each individual artisan adds their personal touch and finesse to each finished product. In a way, it can be said that no two hand-block-printed batches are alike, which makes the fabric even more special.
Intricate Designs:
Handmade wooden blocks are individually carved by an artisan who may have started learning this art at a very young age. Their agile fingers are trained to carve out the most intricate patterns on wood, which then create mesmerizing prints on fabric. There are as many intricacies in design as there are artisan groups in the many villages in Rajasthan. Many are inspired by nature and everyday geometry while creating these blocks. The many flowers, leaves, and geometric patterns give Rajasthani block-printed fabric a very rustic feel.
Vibrant Colors:
The arid land devoid of greenery and flowers inspired artisans to use colors in their designs in a grandiose manner. There is an excess of green, blue, red, and shades of bright pink alongside saffron and yellow in the hand block prints on fabric manufactured in Rajasthan. The designs that turn out are eye-pleasing and very attractive to be used in person and for home decor.
Techniques are perfected over time:
Each artisan making block-printed textiles in Rajasthan has accumulated centuries of expertise. With each passing generation, a family of artisans makes some amends to their methods and procedures to produce better prints and more pleasing fabric. Their dedication toward this family art is commendable, and therefore their craftsmanship is the best in the world, as hand block-printed fabric of such perfection cannot be found in any other place.
Notable Texture:
The wooden blocks have a certain way of leaving a subtle yet long-lasting impression on fabric. This texture can also be felt with a very gentle touch, and that is what adds character to the masterpiece that each artisan creates with hard work and a labor of love. All these characters of hand-block-printed fabric from Jaipur are enough to entice you into hoarding breathtaking bed sheets, curtains, and home furnishings from the stores of Dmaasa. Rajasthani Hand Block Print: Unveiling the Rich Heritage and Timeless Beauty
This gave rise to a rising demand for this technique to be used to create fabric for diverse uses, not just clothing. 'GONE ARE THE DAYS OF FASHION FOR LOOKING GOOD, IT MUST ALSO FIGHT BACK AGAINST INJUSTICE'
From infusing riotous colors to inoculation of structural shapes into the mix, sustainability no longer subscribes to a singular aesthetic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fast fashion and slow fashion has been a controversial and a debatable subject lately. Meanwhile sustainability and ethical dressing is gaining it's momentum after covid times. Sustainability has become a mainstay in the fashion world in recent times. After all, the industry itself is responsible for a whooping percentage of carbon emission worldwide. Fast fashion is a major perpetrator. This business is discovered upon using cheap, environmentally unfriendly materials and paying substantially low wages to the workers and artisans. The corporate world of fashion has been condemned for capitalizing textile workers and laborers, offering low wages and fostering disturbing environment within their creative spaces. Considering the disastrous RANA PLAZA collapse of 2013.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The pursuit of an eco-friendly closet can take shape in various forms. There are pre-loved marketplaces, upcycled labels etc but the philosophy behind each is same ie to promote environmentally conscious fashion. This idea is fundamentally intertwined with timeless to consistently buy pieces that won't end up in the back of your closet or worse discarded!
For women in India retaining gifts from mothers and grandmothers from decades is a strong lesson in the investment of meaningful clothing. Wether it is a 24 carat gold ancestoral necklace ,a silk canchivaram / banarasi saree or traditional kangan.
Tumblr media
Growing up and witnessing my family in India using their clothes multiple times before washing them by hand delicately ,hanging them in sun taught me to look after my clothes with utmost care which have been passed down to me with an intention. During the diwali holidays i designed myself an indowestern dress inspired from Masaba's collection which my mother stitched for me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For the time being i have perceived that change can be brought from an endeavor to stop injustice and unrighteous fashion by boycotting fast fashion mega famous brands like H&M and Zara on a personal level and promoting an intellect to invest in good quality and long term ,reusable fashion items and outfits. Challenging the connotations of handloom, redefining and reshaping homegrown labels and marrying them to the modernizing game changers in fashion. Handloom is the second largest employment sector in India. The emergence and upcoming veteran labels are creating a new space for all things handwoven and handmade. Artists like Asif Sheikh explore new craft clusters & designs in handloom making it more wearable, accessible & contemporary hereby basing it a flourishing stage. The exuberant White on White collection consists of boastful pieces thats represent peace and timelessness with a focus on impeccable tailoring, stitching and weaving . The applique and illustrated embroidery on silk and pashmina gives them a gloval and modern language of a flawless charm. And a display of versatility of our Indian textile in International forum. Kasturbhai Lalbhai museum and Arvind Indigo display was truly a muse!
Tumblr media
The House of MG , a premier boutique heritage hotel & museum had a display of detailed and intricate traditional regional craft from parts of Kutch ,Rajasthan and Gujrat .The ghagra choli, shawls and sarees were a showcased in a style and amalgamated silhouettes of traditional embroidery.
Fashion forecasting can be also termed as prediction of trends in near future, just what we saw in our visit to a corporate brand Reliance -diwali collection followed by winter/fall collection which featured discounts and sale offers subsequently. The export house in Ahemdabad had phenomenal business strategies to sell Indian textile handloom ,manual and handwoven collection in japan and gaving considerably great profit margins. They had a futuristic approach towards the fading art and tradition of india and selling the limited pieces abroad works in favor.
The spring summer collection of 2023 is an eidetic image of the world around us . The ready to wear spring 2023 already has created a bizz with its cameo appearances and celebrity controversy produced iconic moments one after the other.
