New Phototgrapher
Deborah Turbeville
Deborah Turbeville was an American fashion photographer who was born in 1932. She started out as a fashion editor at harpers bazaar and became a photographer in the 1970s. Turbeville is often credited alongside Helmut Newton and Guy Bourdinn for adding a darker element to fashion photography though she added more of a dreamy feminine gaze to her contemporaries. Her photos have appeared in multiple publications.
Some defining qualities of her photos are grain and common colours are pastel, sepia or black and white. She will ocasionally rework her shot by scrapoing or taping. Her subjects were often very feminine and were often posed in “soft lazy poses” and she often tried to steer away from “steriotypical idea” and glamour.
Deborah Turbeville said she was heavily inspired by her childhood.
