“ ‘m b-back ! and i brought l-lunch ! ” you announce your arrival into the clinic, precariously balancing the takeout you’d ordered for the office on a hip. ( admittedly, it’s just the two of you- soooooo. )

you set the food on the front desk, and start laying everything out, hoping the smell would lure ai out of the backroom.

yuko, showing up to ai’s doctor’s office, bleeding from the mouth from getting in a fight : hey princess can you- ai, sighing as yuko bleeds on the floor of her doctors clinic: yes ill fucking heal you, dumbass ( affectionate )

ai and yuko are the only ones who can make fun of the other’s taste in partners. they both have such questionable tastes . . .

i think, ai is yuko’s rock, their rock in the traumatic aftermath of losing their vision bc the iwakura clan head demanded it so, the grief and anger of losing their clan, of the obsessive revenge spiral they’ve begun. ai is the silver of the stable past yuko clings to and returns to when they become lost in the sea of anger and grief.

yuko and ai sit together under the large sakura tree on the edge of hanamizaka together, eating lunch on the days yuko is the most grounded to who they used to be and talk about normal things, about new outfits at the ogura shop, imported makeups from ritou, about having dinner at yuguu’s, at trying to schedule a time they can go to the bathhouse together  and unwind. talk about the normal things yuko used to want.

“ you deserve better friends than me. ”  you frown.  you’ve been too obsessed with your own thoughts, too consumed by revenge, by grief, by anger. you haven’t really been present for the people in your life. “ hey princess, when i’m gone- take care of yourself. get some real friends. some really good ones, ‘kay ? ”

sometimes, you are glad that ai is your friend. sometimes, you wish you had no friends. right now, as her hands keep you grounded, you are so very grateful that she’s here alongside you.

you had heard through the grapevine that the traveler refused to help with the almighty shogun’s dictatorial choices- and expected to be handed an audience with the god of inazuma. refused to help- until someone they ‘ cared ’ about got hurt. and then had the gall to go off, and kill the rest of your clan. ( for what ? what did they even get out of it ? )

it made you sick.

“ i . . . ” you bite the inside of your cheek. “ i can’t . . . why . . . how . . . ” words fail you, and you rest your head in the crook of ai’s neck, as you begin to weep. “  i have to kill them. before they ruin anyone else’s life . . . ”

but you both know you can’t. the traveler has too many powerful friends, and can fight a god at her peak. you’d die. maybe that’s what you want, under the layers of anger and grief. “ why do they get to do whatever they want ? why . . . why won’t anyone punish them for their crimes ? don’t the rest of us matter, ai ? are we really nothing but stepping stones to them and their stupid goal ? ”
