Side Note: My blog is 99% TMBS, so I do expect biased results but honestly both these tropes are amazing, because on one hand, a villain who is a legit threat reluctantly starting to care about, identify with, and want to protect the kind-hearted intelligent kids who keep coming to destroy his evil plans is wholesome.

But on the other hand: when the hero is just an old person who genuinely cares about everyone, and 99% of their whole plan to stop the villain is by giving uncle Iroh style lectures? And the villain (who again is a legit threat) is really just confused heartbroken and traumatized so they keep accidentally trauma dumping on the hero and start going to them for emotional support or even help them a little to the point where eventually the hero becomes villain’s “not mad, just disappointed” dad/mom that they never had? Amazing.

(And when you find a story that has both…)
