Thank you for the tag @fangbangerghoul!! (If you've got a wip you want to share consider this me tagging you!)
This is a little snippet from chapter 1 of Olivia and Emrys's fic, 'Fateful Symmetry'.
Tumblr media
All at once chaos broke loose: guards and pawns alike shouting, racing towards the origin of that sound. Her heart thudded with her footfalls as she joined them, eyes darting about, looking for Emrys. Somewhere in her cobweb-mind she thought of mines collapsing, and worried for his safety.
Up and away from the main dig-site she saw a flash of red and a massive, serpentine tail sweep around, sending men flying. With a wave of dread washing over her she realized: the medusa had woken up. Then she was grabbed by the arm and yanked behind some toppled crates, and the only thing in her vision was Emrys’s grinning face.
“This is it, Lady Luck is with us today!”
“The medusa?”
Someone went flying past them, screaming as they went over the railing. Emrys put his hands on her face and pulled her attention back to him.
“Six words, Olivia, that’s all I need from you. Say it with every fiber of your very being, like saying it alone will make it real.” He looked ecstatic, almost mad with excitement. “Just repeat after me, say: ‘Emrys, get me out of here.’”
Her brow furrowed as she stared at him slack-jawed, his words sounding like a foreign tongue to her ear for all the sense they made.
“Emrys-” she started, clambering for the nearest thought that did make sense, and thrust a finger in the direction of the medusa. “Help me kill that thing before it kills everybody!”
How quickly that excitement in his expression crashed and faded might have been hilarious if the situation were not so dire. He looked as though he’d been holding out his hands expecting gold, or cake, or something otherwise pleasant - and instead found them full of manure.
With a look like that -eyes wide, mouth agape, and head hung- she might have expected him to refuse, but in a voice as low as a growl or whisper he said: “...As you wish.”
