I know you’re probably not done with it, but what’s going on with long road home

So I answered a similar ask a few days ago, but I planning on publishing the first chapter of Long Road Home after the latest In Vino chapter is posted!

I don’t have an exact timeline for when that will be, but it should be in the next few weeks or so!

What’s your favourite fic of yours?

Whoaaaa #FanFic Friday coming in HOT with the tough asks!! I don’t know that it will come as a surprise to anyone, but my favorite fic is definitely In Vino! I’ve LOVED creating Nesta and Cash’s dynamic aware from the strictures (and problems) of canon, I love all the wine research I get to do, I love that it’s part of this larger AU-verse and that I can hide Easter Eggs in the stories! Basically, I just really enjoy writing In Vino, which is not always the case. Even though they are all your babies in a way, there are some fics which are fucking MISERABLE to work on, and which give me like...negative joy. Looking at you, Like a Lonely House.

Anyways, in honor of In Vino, here is a short VAGUELY SPOILERY snippet from an upcoming chapter. YOU’VE BEEN WARNED! ♥️

Sometime in the future...

Rhysand flashed a cat-like smile as he approached, giving lapels of his Armani blazer a self-important tug as he did so. The crisp shirt he wore beneath had the first several buttons undone, and Nesta could see the making of what was clearly a very intricate chest piece tattoo peeking out, the swirling lines matching the designs which covered the backs of each his hands.

Nesta,” he said in greeting, tone warm as if they were old friends. “Finally. Welcome to my kingdom, darling.”

His English accent was clipped but smooth, a clear product of his education at Eaton and Oxford.

Nesta smirked, turning to accept a genteel kiss on the cheek.

“So you’re the philandering rake I’ve heard so much about,” she said as they pulled away.

Rhysand’s answering grin was wicked as sin itself.

“And you’re even more beautiful than Cash described,” he shot back easily. “Careful, I might be tempted to steal you for myself.”

Nesta hit him with an expression Cash had affectionately termed “Disney Villainess.”

“I don’t know if I want to laugh in your face, or slap you across it.”

In Vino Veritas, Part VIII TEASER

Cash opened his mouth to snap out what a pathetic excuse that was before catching sight of her face and falling silent.

This was Tomás, Cash realized. This was what Tomás and his bullshit had done to her. Made her afraid to make a mistake, or admit when she was drowning and needed help. How must he have belittled Nesta in bed to make her so worried about displeasing Cash? The idea made him sick to his stomach.

Hi Lovey!

Short answer, as always, is that I don’t know, hahaha! I am garbage at setting deadlines for writing because I always blow past them and feel terrible about myself, so I’ve just stopped trying. (yay for self awareness!)

 However, I can give a few little insights to offer you some idea of we’re at (and hopefully get you excited for Chapter 9!)

The name of the chapter is Umsasane

 As always, the chapter features one Nesta POV and one Cash POV. Nesta’s POV is finished and it currently 3,583 words, though that is always subject to additions! Cash’s POV is still underway, but it’s currently 6,998 words. For those of you who don’t have a calculator on hand, that puts us at about 10.5K words so far, though Cash’s POV is only about 45% written. So long story not so short, this chapter is going to be another biggggg boi

I don’t want to spoil too much of the chapter (because it’s sort of the craziest one to date) but here is a short snippet!

“Cash had always been keen to explore her wine preferences, a fact which Nesta had initially treated with suspicion. However, she knew now that what she’d feared to be a witch hunt for perceived weaknesses in her taste had actually been a genuine attempt to understand her better.

 Viniculture was a language to Cash, and he hadn’t wanted to study her in translation; he’d wanted to learn her from the primacy source.”

In Vino Veritas is fast replacing it but my fav is The Tender Jar. I think about Elain rubbing ointment on Azriel’s wings SO OFTEN. The tension you wove between them is delicious and honestly inspirational! I think I’m due a reread 🥰😈

Awwww that makes me so happy! TJ was my first ACOTAR fic so always has a special place in my heart! ♥️

Also I was just working on the wingsin rewrite from Az’s POV last night! 🔥 🦇 💦

He fought off a groan as her fingers first made contract with his right wing, trying to focus on the sting of the salve to keep himself from getting hard. However, when she traced her finger down the spot in wonder a moment later, he felt himself losing the battle against his mounting desire.

🚨 *This post discusses the timelines for Navy Suits and In Vino* 🚨

First of all, thanks for reaching out, it means a lot! ♥️

So it’s sort of confusing I think, but as of the most recent point on this AU-verse timeline, which is the end of Navy Suits, Elain and Az are just dating. I actually do have plans to continue their story after I finish In Vino Veritas in a story called Long Road Home.

Below is a timeline of the my AU-verse for clarification and a synopsis/teaser for Long Road Home!

2015: Nesta and Cash meet when Nesta comes to The Merchant of Vino in search of wine for her next dinner party. *In Vino Veritas, Chapter One*

2016: Nesta and Cash begin dating

2017: Rhys and Az meets Feyre and Elain. Rhys and Feyre quickly fall for each other and begin dating. Az and Elain become friends

2018: Rhys and Feyre get engaged

2019, August: Rhys and Feyre get married. *Navy Suits and Chelsea Boots, Pt I*

2019, September: Az and Elain begin dating *Navy Suits and Chelsea Boots, Pt IV*

2020: Az brings Elain back to his native Oklahoma and she meets his family. *Long Road Home*

Long Road Home: Synopsis

Azriel Macar has spent six incredible months in Italy with his girlfriend, and for the first time in his life he feels he’s exactly where he should be. However, when he receives a call from his estranged stepmother, he’s forced to go back to rural Oklahoma and face the demons from his past. Elain is determined help shoulder the burden by accompanying him, but seeing the woman he loves in the place he’s always hated takes a painful toll on Az, and he struggles to reconcile who he was with who he’s worked so hard to become. As he devolves into grief and self-doubt, he risks losing the most important person in his life: Elain. 

Long Road Home: Teaser

Elain felt Az tense beside her as the ancient screen door banged open and two men in their early thirties spilled out, grinning like fiends.

Az’s beauty, Elain decided as they approached, had come prodomiantly from his mother Ama, because although Tanner and Chance Maclan had the same hazel eyes as their half-brother, they were otherwise unremarkable in their looks.

“There he is, the returning brave,” the larger of them crowed.

Tanner, the eldest.

His younger brother Chance didn’t reply, only clapped a hand repeatedly against his mouth in a vocalization Elain understood to be a crude mockery of a Cherokee war cry.

Elain bristled. When Az had said his half-brothers were assholes, he’d failed to mention that they were *racist* assholes. Her heart broke as she imagined what it must have been like for him growing up in this house, particularly after his mother died.

Elain was forced to let go as Tanner pulled Azriel into a too-tight hug, deliberately messing Az’s glossy black hair.

“Welcome home, little brother.”

Would you happen to be in another good mood to share another teaser from in vino? I love it so much!

Okayyyy, but fair warning, I am not very far into the chapter yet, so this snippet is similar to bits you’ve already seen. The truth is that some of the teasers I’ve post—Cash, Aelin, and Rowan or Cash telling Nesta he doesn’t want to see her—haven’t actually been written yet. I know where the chapter is going so I can write little blurbs from the future, but I am nowhere near actually drafting that stuff in the chapter.

Also, if you are a diehard Feyre stan, I would say this isn’t going to be the snippet (or the chapter, or the story, or maybe even the author) for you. After being trapped in her head for 3.5 books, I find myself suffering with serious Feyre Fatigue™️, which results in...well...this. 

“Stop, Fey,” Elain said, seeming to read Nesta’s tense expression before tugging on her younger sister’s arm. “She’s right; this isn’t our business.”

“Yes, it is!” Feyre said, shaking Elain off in irritation as she fixed her narrowed gaze on Nesta. “Cash is our friend, too! Did you even consider that, or were you just thinking about yourself like always?”

Nesta couldn’t fight the way her shoulders tightened, throating positively aching now. It was Feyre’s favorite scab to pick when they fought, her ace in the hole for cutting Nesta to the quick: accusing Nesta of being selfish. As a lawyer Nesta had to admit it that her sister had chosen her target well, because it preyed on Nesta’s biggest fear: that even after what she’d done for them, it hadn’t been enough. That she could have—should have—done more for them when they were children.

Nesta knew Feyre didn't actually believe what she’d said, and that she always regretted pushing things to that place after she’d calmed down. Still, that didn’t make the comment sting any less.

EYES OF TEXAS, PART II: TEASER

“Do you trust me?” He said, kissing her deeply again.

“Yes,” she breathed.

At this he rose from the bed, deftly unknotting the silk tie which had been used to hold back the curtains and holding it up for her to see.

She expelled a noise of pleasure so finely edged it was almost a whine. Slowly, deliberately, she raised her arms above her head in invitation, eyes hooded as she watched him approach.

The eyes of texas was so good, I loved it, wouldn't mind if you would spin few more parts and let us see their relationship grow. But I'm also exited for an in vino veritas update.❤

It’s definitely possible down the line! I can tell you that there is also really cute scene coming up with them In Vino that’s been in my head forever, I’m very excited it’s finally almost here! 😊

As for In Vino chapter I’m currently working on, I’m genuinely worried y’all are going to hate me. It has not been easy to write and I’m afraid it will be no easier to read and that I might end up ruining the whole series if I don’t do this just right...😰😓😭

so yeah, the fear is real oh that one, I guess we’ll just have to see 🤞🏼 😣

IN VINO VERITAS SNIPPET 

“Wow,” Az said, sounding slightly awed. “Nesta’s sister is gorgeous.”

“Yeah,” Rhys agreed in a daze. “She is.”

Confused, Cash glanced up to find them looking in two different directions. He twisted to glance over his shoulder to see where Az was looking first, unsurprised to find Elain standing at the bar looking so lovely it was almost painful. Cash winced when Az turned to him, his face uncharacteristically hopeful.

It quickly fell as he he read Cash’s expression and he groaned.

“She’s got a boyfriend,” Azriel said.

Cash bit his lip.

“I’m sorry, brother.”

Az groaned again.

“How long?”

“Two years,” Cash admitted, hating the way Az’s face crumpled, the light that had shown in his eyes dimming. “But if it helps, Nesta and I think he’s a complete twat.”

“It doesn’t,” Az said, sullen as he peeled his attention from Elain and turned towards the bar on the other side of the room. “I need a drink.”

Rhys had the decency to wait for Az to get out of hearing range before turning to Cash, his face exultant.

“Does that mean her other sister is single? Dear God, please say yes.”

Cash caught his friend by the tie as he attempted to slither off in Feyre’s direction, already looking slightly lovestruck. Rhys gave an overly theatrical gag as Cash tugged him back.

“Listen to me, you besotted goon. That is Nesta’s baby sister. If you hurt her in any way, Nesta will flay you alive and then kill me too for good measure, so if I let you go over there, there are rules. Break one and I break your leg, understood?”

“You didn’t give Az this speech,” Rhys said, straightening his tie has he gave his hair a self-important tousle, his crushing blue eyes still fixed on Feyre.

Cash only pursed his lips.

“Az isn’t a philandering rake.”

I love being inside Cash’s head, he is funny and unproblematic and kind of a dork, especially when it comes to Nesta. Runner-up in probably Rowan, who is ALSO a huge dork but even less slick about it than Cash.

I have two favorite parts to share because you are just that brilliant! Both from Navy Suits & Chelsea Boots, and both Azriel lines because I love your characterization of him. “Vanserra, it’s Azriel. Graysen’s in your pool. You might want to send security to come fish him out.” & “I growing up like I did, I’m—not good with vulnerability,” he said. “And I was terrified that I would tell you and you wouldn’t feel the same.” Can't wait for more In Vino Veritas!

Long Road Home FIRST LOOK

“Look who finally decided to come home and see his family.”

Elain felt Azriel stiffen beside her as the ancient porch door snapped shut again and a women in her late fifties appeared, hands on her hips. Despite her dyed blonde hair, she looked enough like Colt and Tanner that Elain knew she must be Azriel’s stepmother. Elain fought the urge to snarl at the woman as she continued to study Azriel with casual disapproval, as if he’d done something wrong simply by standing there.

“Marianne,” Az said, voice carefully neutral. “Hi.”

The woman only pursed her lips.

“Don’t just stand there like a lump, Azriel James. Come up here and give your Mamma Annie a hug.”

What do you do when you have Writers block?

Oh GOD you’re asking me??? Ummm nothing productive that is for sure. 😂 

Okay but for real, traditionally I have been a person who writes in LARGE but ERRATIC bursts. I will get into why in a second, but I can say that when I hit writers block (or feel unmotivated) However, I have found some things that do help.

-rereading my old stuff 

-reading comments/reactions

-waiting my favorite epic movie scenes on YouTube

-indulging in some side project that has nothing to do with what I “should” be working on but really stims my brain

-reading something familiar  (sometimes its a book I love, sometimes it’s a book that’s massively popular than makes me aggressively scream OKAY I COULD WRITE SOMETHING BETTER THAN THAT

-sometimes you just have to wait it out!!

HAVING SAID ALL THAT

Like I said, I have always written the same way I do all things in my life. I ignore for a periods then get OBSESSED and write 20K in a day. I thought this was just normal, and I did the same thing at work or with chores thinking “I guess this is just my quirk, and it’s stressful, but it works”

WRONG

What I’d internalized as laziness and a lack of inspiration turned out to be undiagnosed ADD. YALL, if you’re a person who is either OBSESSED or disengaged (no in between) and feels like they can’t get even simple tasks accomplished and is constantly saying “what the fuck is WRoNG with me” GO GET TESTED. Because....you may have ADD/ADHD and knowing that and being properly medicated is a GAME-CHANGER

please update in vino veritas my crops are dying and the semester’s starting again and I need something to keep me sane and get me through

Okay I think I am too old to fully understand the crops comment (?)  but I sense I’ve got the jist, and the sentiment is so sweet it makes me so happy! I swear I didn’t mean to be gone this long. However, I fell in love during November quite unexpectedly, and as lovely as that is, it also takes up a lot of time! But my boyfriend just started a huge project of his own so I’ll have more time back, so I promise updates are coming. To prove it, here is a one-sentence snippet to whet your appetite. Nesta only crossed her arms.

“I’m not going be dressed up like Battered Spouse Barbie just because you’ve decided I’m don’t come off as fragile enough. I don’t have to dress like a victim to prove I am one.”
