Featured Members for the month of June
It’s been 10th months since I first recruited the first member of A41 sing group formerly called Team A! Team A as in A+ because I handpicked the gifted and talented singers in smule ! This 10th month anniversary, we have two featured members! They both got the same number of votes from our dear members. Ignacio and Sheryll are the featured members for the month of July. Congratulations to both of you!
Ignacio is from Caracas, Venezuela, the birthplace of the beauty queens! Although Ignacio admits that he does not have a singing experience, my first impression of him is he sounds like a professional operatic singer. I’m no music expert but I just think that he has a Tenor type of singing voice. He likes jazz, pop, rock, and latin music. Ignacio auditioned for the A41 a couple of months ago. He sang Patience by Guns and Roses and did really great! He is a Financial Advisor in real life.  He likes to watch movies, practice baseball, bowling, and go to the beaches. Hmmmm.. He seems like a well-rounded person who is a sociable person and can do many things aside from singing.
Sheryll was born in the Philippines, the land of the karaoke kings and queens! She lives now in California, U.S.A. I met Sheryll when she joined my Open Call, Sometimes by Britney Spears. She has a high range of voice and just like other A41 members, sings with love and passion. She likes classic, ballad and rnb music. She plays organ and a band vocalist in her College days. She sings in wedding events and in church every Sunday. She likes to go shopping as a stress reliever aside from singing.
Sheryll received a Starbucks gift card from me as her reward and Ignacio will received one too from me on his U.S tour this July. I am looking forward for a duet of you two since you both like the same genre. Keep on singing both of you! The smule world needs beautiful voices like you!

Wided Khadraoui | Afro-futurism as an Effective Genre
Afro-futurism as an Effective Genre
Alienation and otherness have always been paramount topics in art utilized by the African diaspora. This artistic phenomenon allows for the minority experience to be brought, as an entity, to the forefront in ways that are usually overlooked or underdeveloped in the mainstream. To speculate on the future is inherently human; Afro-futurism simply combines the inevitability of exploring race, access, and technology in the future without disregarding the past.
Afro-futurism was coined in the early 1990s, and addresses concerns of the diaspora using elements of magic realism and science fiction to critique loss and disinheritance, while at the same time exploring aspirations for the future. The concept of history-less identities and the possibility of a post-racial world to end stigma and racism is incontestably lacking; history is part of identity.
Afro-futurism is essentially a proficient sound deck. It samples old art, stories, and myths, and updates them with current images and aspirations. Through its futuristic emphasis, memories and old ideas are brought to the forefront, and are still identifiable and applicable in a contemporary setting.  As writer Ytasha L. Womack says, “Afro-futurism is where the past and the future meet.” It is at this intersection where dialogue and progress can be made.
Who Fears Death, by Nnedi Okorafor does highlight a unique critique associated not only with Afro-futurism, but also with post-colonial literature as a whole; the obligation of the author. The role of an African artist, literal or visual, is unusually encumbered. They create a platform displaying a society, which may include potential problematic aspects, and oftentimes face unrealistic expectations to diminish the importance of such practices. One example is the critique of Okorafor for utilizing female genital mutilation and its impairment on Onyesonwu’s magical abilities. This unusual stipulated responsibility mandates a balance that continues to perpetuate misrepresentations and severely limit artistic aesthetic.
Afro-futurism is vast, and by extension long lasting. Its strength lays in its ability to be all encompassing. While there are Surrealist paintings but no Surrealist music and Constructivist architecture but no Constructivist literature, Afro-futurism is applicable to a wide range of creative paradigms. Afro-futurism embraces music, literature, and visual art within the context of science fiction and its aspects.
The diverse applicability of Afro-futurism can be seen in a variety of forms ranging from W.E.D. Du Bois, Sun Ra, Herbie Hancock, Nnedi Okorofor, Grace Jones, Octavia Butler, Nona Hendryx, and Janelle Monae [also side note-if you haven’t, Youtube Many Moons right now, brilliant model of slavery versus freedom through cyborgs in the fashion industry.)
Illustrator Kamau Mshale, uses Adinke and Akan symbolisms in his comic Captain Kachela, while Jiba Anderson’s comic series feature Yoruba deities in a futuristic sci-fi world.
P-Funk Mothership was the mysterious fictional vehicle of funk deliverance, and a physical prop, used by funk music pioneer George Clinton, aka Dr. Funkenstein. The vehicle references to the Dogon, whose originator story centers on their ancestors arriving on a flying ark from another galaxy. Artists have been playing homage to the past in creative forward future for decades now, in the infamous words of Clinton creating “certified Afronauts, capable of funtikizing galaxies.”
Afro futurism is powered by exile and erasure but in the narrative reclamation and invention both stake a claim on the future of humanity.

Featured Member for the Month of April
Kimmie auditioned for the group four months ago. She sang “Beautiful" by Christina Aguilera. I choose that song for auditions as it requires a ton of staying in power. Well, Kimmie had a control over the song from start to climax. ( This is one of the songs I sing when I’m alone to practice my range.) It is pretty much a doable song if you just sing the melody but if you do Christina’s runs in the bridge is pretty much hard. This tested Kimmie’s F#5.
Kimmie is only 22 years old and will be turning 23 on May 9th. Advance Happy Birthday Kimmie! She is young and beautiful. A very good member. She sings lovely and yet down to earth. Follow all A41 rules I set. What I like of her is she asks my opinions regarding her singing. I believe that this will develop her more and more as a singer. She likes classic music but I also noticed that she’s good with country and rock songs.
Kimmie stated she enjoys being with A41 because, “ We are all family.” For her, music is her world. She can play piano and guitar. She can dance and she’s into cheering as well. She likes to write and mixing her own songs in studio. In real life, she’s a license cosmetologist. ( Kimmie, we are going to get along well. I like to look good to feel good :) )
How lucky we are to have Kimmie in the group. She is such a talented person just like everyone else in the group!

A41 Featured Member for the Month of May
Jhun Chang (not her real name), half Italian and half Filipino was nominated to be the Featured Member for the month of May. She has professional singers in the family and she herself is a performer. I won't write so much about this because she wants to keep this private. 😊 She joined one of our former member’s open call and she was recommended to the group. We didn’t have a second thought and so I immediately invited her to join the fun in this awesome group! She is absolutely amazing! She has a wide range of vocals and stays in power to most of the songs she sings. She won singing competitions twice when she was 7 years old in Quezon Province, Philippines and when she was 17 years old in Italy. The musical instrument that she can play is the organ. She likes reggae and classic songs but I hear her singing most all of genres, from old to new.
Aside from being a Music Performer, she also works for a living as an Import Manager in an Electrical Firm. She presently resides in the beautiful islands of the Philippines.
Congratulations JC! Just like other nominated Featured Members (except for the March. He only asked for a moral support and did not want to claim his prize.), JC will receive a personalized gift from me, will be tagged by most A41 Founders in their bios in smule, her song entry will be favorited by me and by the A41 official page.
