The whole small town thing was grating at the best of times, that and the fact that there was sand and dust everywhere was making the whole thing worse. The newspaper office she’d been working out of had been practically empty when she’d started it up seven years ago, there was an old typewriter in there and Lucky loved the aesthetic, but it was far too impractical to lug around on the back of her bike. Instead she typed away on her laptop as she called out to Beau from behind her screen. 

“Please tell me it’s fixable?” The light sheen of sweat clinging to her skin wasn’t the worst she had looked since the air conditioning unit straight up broke. There was a loud thunk followed by a weird vibrating hum and then it just stopped. So for the last week it had practically been a sauna, so once she’d reached breaking point her first point of call had been to Beau. He fixed everything that broke in the office.

She had been in the wrong. Leaving him like that after being the one to invite him out over the weekend, it wasn’t like her, or, at least, not like how she wanted to be. The guilty puppy dog act wasn’t intentional, but it still radiates off of her as if she is some celestial body and this is the one thing her tiny little world can produce. A warm, hearty dinner plate is slid across the table towards him. “Order up.” A peace offering in place of an apology isn’t exactly what she had in mind when she first realized her mistake while nursing away a hangover, but Eden had never been all too good about owning up to her own mistakes. “Hey... so about this weekend... would it make you feel better if I told you they ended up being a total asshole?” she begins with a small sheepish smile and still no real apology.
