There are so many successful African football players who are adored in their home countries. But little do we know about them.

That's the reason why it's time to give them the credit they deserve. It's always difficult to name just 10 out of so many top players. That's why we asked around the continent, on the football pitches, in cities and villages, to the young and the elder people who comes instantly to their mind when they think about the greatest African players of all time. Who do they adore the most?

In order to be as objective as possible, we defined 4 criterias to judge them:

Their skills (speed, ability with the ball, dribbling skills)

Their stats with their club and their national team

Trophies won and personal distinctions

Marking accomplishment on AND out of the pitch

Regarding these three last criteria, recent players as Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane, who were both born in the 90's, aren't in this list as they are just beginning their careers.

Here are the Top 10 African Players who made football history. All of them played an important in football development over Africa, giving hope to millions of children all over the continent.

George Weah: Liberia

George Weah was a Liberian football player and was born in 1966. Weah started his football career at the young age of 15. Seven years later, he was recruited for the Liberian National Team. Like so many other of his countrymen, he moved to France as professional football player. In 1991, he also won the French Cup. In 1993, he switched to Paris Saint-Germain and ultimately helped his new team to win not only the French Cup, but also the Ligue 1 title.

After he repeated these achievements in 1994, he earned the titles "African Player of the Year", "European Player of the Year" and "FIFA World Player of the Year".

After his time in Paris, he played with big international clubs, such as Al-Jazira, Marseille, Chelsea, AC Milan and Manchester City.

After his professional career as an active football player, he made big investments in the Liberian football team and worked as an ambassador against Aids/HIV. He also pursued an ambitious political career. Against all the odds, in 2018, he was elected as the 25th president of Liberia.

Jay-Jay Okocha: Nigeria

Augustine Azuka "Jay-Jay" Okocha was born in 1973 and is a former Nigerian football player. He earned the honour of being named the "Best Nigerian Football Player" several times, in 1995, 1997, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005.

In total, Jay-Jay Okocha scored 85 goals in a total of 454 matches. His specialty was the use of feints, especially the stepover. There is a famous line, that describes Jay-Jack Okocha: "So good, that they named him twice." This line has its origins in the time, when he played for the Bolton Wanderers.

During his career, he played for a wide range of international clubs, such as Eintracht Frankfurt, Fenerbahce, Paris Saint-Germain, the Bolton Wanderers and Hull City.

Okocha had several appearances in international competitions, such as 1998 Fifa World Cup, Olympic Games 1996 in Atlanta and Africa Cup of Nations to just name a few. He also played during the 1994 FIFA World Cup, only loosing against Italy, who were one of the favourite team to win the competition according to Eurobet.

Hossam Hassan Hussein: Egypt

Hossam Hassan Hussein was born in 1966 and already retired. He is originally from Egypt. During his football career, he mostly played as a striker. He is probably the most popular football player of Egypt, as he is, until now, the top scorer with 70 goals in 169 played matches. During his career as a football player, he played along his twin-brother Ibrahim. Most of the time, they even shared the football club they were employed at.

In 1990, he was the front player for the Egyptian national team in the Football World Cup and also played in 7 tournaments of the Africa Cup of Nations. He played mostly for his home club Al-Ahly, but also had appearances in Swiss and Greek football clubs. The popular football player earned several honours, such as "Top Scorer 1998 African Cup of Nations" and "Best African Football Player in the last 50 years".

Hossam Hassan Hussein was an active football player until he reached the age of 40. Currently, he is the manager of the Al-Masry football club.

Yaya Touré: Ivory Coast

Yaya Touré was born in 1983 and is a football player from Ivory Coast. He is called the "human train", due to his versatile football abilities. He frequently changed from offensive to defensive stances and also played in the midfield.

Currently, he plays for Manchester City and Ivory Coast. He announced that he retired from international competition in 2015. However, regarding the odds at Bet365, the announce of his comeback in 2017 was a huge surprise for every football fans and his teammates. Toure wanted to qualify his country for FIFA World Cup 2018, but failed, Ivory Coast losing to Morocco.

So far, he played in 6 Africa Cup of Nations matches and has earned the title "African Football Player of the Year" 4 times in a row.

Roger Milla: Cameroon

Albert Roger Mooh Miller (most known as Roger Milla) was born in 1952 and was one of the first Cameroonians, who played football on the international stage. He was part of the Cameroonian National Team and led it to the Quarter Finals in the World Cup.

Milla started his career in 1965 with the Éclair club of Douala and moved pretty quickly to France, like so many other African football players. He played for Monaco and Bastia, with which he won the French Cup finals in 1980 and 1981.

After his return to Cameroon, he was part of the national team and won the Africa Cup of Nations twice. He also played in the World Cup in 1992 and reached the finals. In 1994, he returned from retirement and played with his team in the World Cup again. Here, he earned the title of the oldest player scoring a goal in the finals.

Rashidi Yekini: Nigeria

Rashidi Yekini was a Nigerian football player. He was born in 1963 and died in 2012. He is known as Nigeria's greatest football players of all time. He scored the first ever goal for Nigeria in a World Cup. Afterwards, he was called "the Goalfather" and "a legend".

During his international career, he played for different football clubs, for example the Shootingstars and Vitoria Setubal. He scored 45 goals in 53 matches for the Shootingstars and 90 goals in 108 matches for Vitoria Setubal. Also, he played for the Nigerian National Team and scored 37 goals in 58 matches.

He earned the honour of being named "African Footballer of the Year" in 1993. 1994, he played for the Nigerian team in the Football World Cup.

Didier Drogba: Ivory Coast

Didier Drogba was born in 1978 and also comes from the Ivory Coast. He is most-known for his ability to score, speed and passing. He earned the title "African Football Player of the Year" twice and won 3 Premier League titles.

He was part of the finals of a range of international competitions, such as the Carling Cup, Champions League, African Cup of Nations and UEFA cup. In 2012, he won the Champion's League with Chelsea, leading his team in one of the best final of the competition according to Wearebettors.

He played for Ivory Coast's national team, scored 65 goals in 104 matches and is so far, the top scorer of his team. Besides that, he is most-known as one of the best players of Chelsea. There, he earned the title "Greatest player ever".

Nwankwo Kanu: Nigeria

The Nigerian football player Nwankwo Kanu was born in 1976 and played for a big number of international football clubs. A few examples are Ajax Amsterdam, Arsenal FC, Portsmouth FH, West Brom and FC Heartland.

He earned the title "African Player of the Year" twice, the Gold Medal in the Olympics and a UEFA Champions League Medal. He took part in 5 African Nations Cups and three World Cups.

He can't only look back at a successful career that lasted 20 years, but also his engagement for several organisations. A good example is the launch of the "Kanu Heart Foundation". He founded the organisation after Kanu was diagnosed with a serious heart defect.

Also, he acts as a "UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador". Now, Nwankwo Kanu is retired from his role as a football player but still very active in his organisation and UNICEF.

Samuel Eto'o: Cameroon

Samuel Eto'o is a Cameroonian football player and was born in 1981. He earned the title "African Player of the Year" 4-times and also was the highest-paid athlete in football.

He was part of the Cameroonian national team and won not only 2 Africa Cups with it, but also the Gold Medal at the Olympics in 2000.

Eto'o is known as a lethal striker and still an active football player. He currently plays Antalyaspor, Turkish football club.

His talent has been recognized all over the world, he even won The Lifetime Achievement Award in Belgium. A consecration for him, celebrating what he did on the pitch but also how he helped the development of football in Cameroon, in Africa and all over the world. For example, he congratulated an unknown club in Belgium after winning a complicated game.

Abedi Ayew: Ghana

Abedi Ayew was a Ghanaian football player and was born in 1964. He was known as the "Ghanaian Pele", named after the Brazilian original Pele. This was due to his world-class skills in his football play.

Most of the time, he played as an attacking midfielder and was also the captain of the Ghanaian football team.

He shortly moved to France, after signing a contract with Marseille. He battled with a lot of racism during his time in France. After winning the UEFA Champions League in 1993 with the same team, all of this changed quickly.

In total, Abedi Ayew played 16 years with the Ghanaian National team and for six years, he was the Captain of the team. He took part in 5 African Nations Cups. Furthermore, Ayew earned the title "African Player of the Year" in 3 consecutive years. He retired in 1998 and received the "Order of Volta", the highest honour for civilian people in Ghana.

Miko: I hope it’s neither— Ratchet won’t like damaged wires.

OP: It might be a cat. Bee and I have brought them in on countless occasions in different times, I would not be surprised if he brought another.

M: you sure you didn’t bring one?

OP: I’m afraid I’ve been busy with you three.

[the three of them find jack stealing candies from Ratchet’s makeshift fridge despite informing the others to eat them tomorrow]

Jack:…. Meow?

M: Jack you traitor that’s no fair!

R: yeah you said we’d eat them tomorrow!

M: Hey Optimus back us up, tell Jack what you’re thinking!!

[Optimus pauses in contemplative silence]

[again Optimus pauses wondering if he wants to go through with this. Miko tries to stifle her laughter and does good at keeping quiet but not hiding her expression. Upon seeing it, Optimus decides to go through.]

[Optimus curled his digits in, letting the tips brush against the underside of his knuckles. It’s not a fist, and it’s not supposed to be he holds one up at his shoulder height arms bent to keep it close to his frame, the other raises to his helm and begins palm up, with his digits resting by his audial fins before he flicks his wrist in a strange pawing motion. He narrows his eyes in the process trying to asses the children to inform him of his actions are correct]

FV: yep, in a few hours they’re gonna be up for adoption! *turns to child* isn’t that great!!! You’ll be an orphan for a few seconds, then, we’ll adopt you!!

FH: honey. Honey. What did you do to their parents. I swear if you killed them—

FV: Killed them?!?! Darling, you know me so much better than that.

FH: oh really??? Do I??? What did you do??? Because I swear if you—

FV: I’m taking them to court.

FH:…. What?

FV: I’m taking them to court. I’ve been in them enough times to know how these things work.

FV: let’s just say they had… unsavoury parents.

Honeyed Lips

This is probably the closest thing you’ll get to “explicit” from me without giving me money. Then again, who knows? Maybe one day I'll crack and actually make a smut fic. For now however....

This is mainly based off of my own personal experience with dry lips. Won’t apply to everyone, but hopefully, you’ll appreciate the honey.

You had an awful tendency to chew your lips. Many would praise it as a cute trait, or perhaps even seductive, but that was only in the moment they got to see it. It left bitter effects in it's wake. Your lips were often chapped, and on the days where you really chewed at them they were left swollen, and sometimes even bleeding. Your hands only seemed to worsen your state, picking at the dried skin of your lips. There was hardly a day when your lips didn't bleed.

At first, Muriel didn't seem to take kindly to your lip biting. He'd practically wilt every time he did but when he had grown to understand you and your habits a little more, he absolutely loathed it, if only because it caused you to bleed.

"You're chewing your lip again." He said, with the scolding tone of a mother. He sighed as you sent him an apologetic glance which only furthered the likeness. "Your lips will be bleeding again."

There was a pause, his own lips twisting into a thin line as they often did when he was debating an action, or on occasion doubting himself. You preferred him to speak his mind during these times, if only to ensure he wasn't spiralling into self-deprecation.

"Muriel?"

His eyes flickered to you, then to your lips, and finally the ground. He stepped away, looking for something amidst your shelves, a decision already made. He pushed jars aside from where they sat in their shelves, until he found the one he was looking for. Golden and gently aglow in the light, Muriel returned with a jar of honey. You must have looked confused, because Muriel's face turned red as he tried to explain.

"You've been biting your lips a lot, and it looked like it hurt. Nadia mentioned that honey is something that can soothe it……"

You felt your own face warm at the sentiment. Always looking out for you, Muriel's kindness never failed to make you smile. You reached for the jar, and Muriel pulled it from your reach. Your smile faltered, and you fell back into confusion while Muriel turned an even brighter shade of red.

"I'll.…can I……." Muriel paused taking a deep breath. He tried to meet your eyes, but his gaze fell to your lips instead. "You'd just pick at your lips if you did it…."

Perhaps out of habit, or perhaps to tease, you bit your lip, and Muriel's hand flew to your mouth. He cupped your cheek with all the tenderness you've grown to expect from him, and with the calloused pad of his thumb he rubbed your lip easing it from the supposed wrath of your teeth. He was breathless for a few moments, but when you refused to budge, he let out a strangled sigh.

"Don't." A pause. Then, "please."

You were inclined to listen. He spent a few moments, rubbing your chapped lips his brow furrowing in concern as he brushed against soft tender skin then against dryness. It was as if he was stealing your breath away, little by little with every brush of his thumb. You couldn't breathe. You didn't dare. If you did he could pull away, and brush off the matter without giving you a proper chance to reply. You had to reply first.

You forced a breath and he flinched back, but you needed air to speak. To reply. Just to make sure, you brought your hand to his wrist, guiding him back to you, and letting you lean against his touch.

"You can." He looked confused. "You can apply the honey to my lips."

Muriel smiled, although red-faced, and hesitant to break from your hold. Grabbing a spoon he scooped a little bit of the honey from the jar, taking care that he wouldn't leave a trail on the jar and lure any insects inside to tamper with your golden supply. From the spoon he scooped up a little onto his fingers and applied a thin layer to your lips. Again you could feel yourself run out of air, but this time, as you forced a breath, Muriel did not flee. He took care to massage the honey into every sore spot he could get to, but it took some restraint on your part not to lick the sweetness from your lips, or suck it from his fingers. The latter was an incredibly appealing option.

As if he had heard your thoughts, Muriel retreated, pulling back with a flushed face, the same kind he'd usually make after a loving kiss. Only you hadn't kissed. Not yet that is.

"I… Nadia said that you should leave it on for as long as you can, so… don't… don't lick it off…"

You grabbed his shirt, not harshly, but enough to keep him from retreating. You tugged at him, gentle but insistent, and leaned towards him. He got the message in an instant, but he still hesitated before he leaned in. The kiss was sticky, but sweet and warm all together. You understood now how your books so often linked honey to an ambrosia, and why the ingredient was so often used in magic concerning love. Tasting it as it rubbed off onto his lips it may as well have been an aphrodisiac.

You broke away from the kiss to see him. Face flushed a bright red, his tongue darted from his lips to lick at the honey you had left there. A careful sweep that had you longing for another kiss. You almost bit your lip simply watching him.

"Didn't you say not to lick it off?"

He glared, at least, as much as he could around his flustered state, and the half smile that tempted you to bite either your own lip or his.

"You ruined yours first." He muttered, as he collected the spoon again. There was a little honey still left on it. Enough surely to coat your lips again.

This time, if you couldn't lick it from your lips, you'd definitely suck it from his fingers.

Some things cannot be taught.

When you had lost your memories and you had to start all over again from scratch, Asra was devastated. Physically you were here, alive. Mentally? He had destroyed you. The ideas you had, your thoughts, your personality all swept down the drain. Or so he had thought at first. When he began to reteach how to talk and behave in society, you picked everything up like you remembered it. It only took a little bit of urging, but you soon began to speak at the same level you had when you died. If only the same could be said of your memories. He tried to bring out all of your favorite things, to talk about all the things you had told him when you knew him. It all ended the same way. You sobbing on the floor as your tears painted your eyes red, as if you were dying again.

He'd stopped when it first happened. Given up on trying to get back something that was long gone. He'd be happy with you here as you are, and he'd teach you all he could to at least keep you from dying again.

Only, some things cannot be taught.

"I love you." He had told you when the attempt at reviving your memories had failed. When you were a crying mess from all the pain of trying to remember. When your eyes looked red

"What does that mean?"

Asra choked. His vision went blurry as the tears built up, and he could feel his chest ache. You stared at him with red eyes, terrified of the words that fell from his mouth. Terrified of the memories he tried to force into you. He hurt you and now—

"Master, what does that mean?"

He didn’t even think then. His hand grabbed your face and with a glow, and an utter of words, you had fallen asleep. A restful peaceful, dreamless sleep that he would not receive. The next morning you would not remember this encounter, but he would burn it into his mind, if only to keep it from happening again. _____________________________________________

What if in their amnesia, the apprentice lost all understanding of emotions, and Asra couldn't teach them what they were, so they had to learn it again in a different way, little by little trying to grow close to the people around them and trying to understand what I love you means.

Also, just imagine, when the Arcana crew confesses their feelings we get the Apprentice to say,

"What… What is that…? What is love? I don't understand!"

Yes, this is Violet Evergarden, Yes, I am very much obsessed with the way the character arc works there, and no, I don't think I'm gonna do anything with this so please take it off of my hands. Also, listen to The Ultimate Price by Evan Call, and have fun bathing in your angst.

I was looking at headcannons, and I dunno but—

[angst warning]

imagine if you got kidnapped. Whisked away while you were out shopping or something and when you don’t come back Muriel just kinda thought you left him. He thought you didn’t want to be around him anymore and that you were finally fed up with him. But then, it gets late and You should be back at the shop with Asra by now, but Asra comes around all smirking just to check up on you two thinking you’re all cuddled up with Muriel only to find that you’re not there. Muriel realizes that you’re gone gone. You didn’t leave him, and it was unlikely that you would just up and ditch both him and Asra, so you must have been taken. You were kidnapped and he did nothing about it because he thought you left him, when in reality you’d never do that. He searches with Asra scrambling against time and hoping to anything and everything that you aren’t dead in a ditch somewhere. When and If he finally finds you, he throws aside your captors. He doesn’t actively attack them and instead moves to you leaving him open to any attacks they may try while he works on freeing you. Asra would have to be there, using magic to keep both of you from harm. You’d be carried from wherever you’ve been trapped and your captors trapped and handed over to palace guards.

You’re passed out and gravely injured and Muriel beats himself up over the entire ordeal. If only he had more faith in you, if only he had noticed sooner, if only he had been there sooner. Asra helps with healing magic while Muriel keeps you warm and safe. When you wake up before all your injuries are heeled Muriel is sobbing and gently stroking your new scars blaming himself for each one. He’s all but attached to your hip when you’re finally good enough to walk and move around, fussing over you and trying to keep you safe. It’s sweet since you get to hold hands a lot more, but you feel bad dragging him to the markets. Sometimes he relaxes enough that you can wander a little ways away from him, but when you disappear into the crowd he’s panicking all over again. It’s borderline Yandere how close an eye he keeps to you, but you understand his fears and little by little you return to normalcy.

....Oh. This ended up longer than it was supposed to be, and turned into a more hurt/comfort sorta ordeal.

I don’t do imagines much.... should I expand this? Flesh it out into an actual one shot fic? Or is it fine as is?

100 Tokoh Demokrasi Desak Jokowi Usut Aktor Intelektual Pembunuhan Munir

KONTENISLAM.COM - Sebanyak 100 tokoh dan perwakilan organisasi demokrasi menyampaikan pernyataan bersama mengenang kematian aktivis HAM Munir Said Thalib atau Munir, yang genap 17 tahun pada 7 September 2021 mendatang. Dalam siaran pers yang diterima, Senin (6/9), mereka menilai kasus kematian Munir adalah pembunuhan politik (political asassination). "Kuat dugaan, kasus ini berhubungan dengan situasi demokrasi saat peristiwa, yakni putaran akhir pemilihan langsung presiden yang berlangsung kurang dari dua pekan sesudahnya, yaitu 20 September 2004," kata mereka. Mereka mengatakan, partisipasi Munir dalam pemilihan presiden putaran pertama pada Juli 2004 bisa menjadi faktor penting dalam mengungkap motif dan faktor yang memicu peristiwa, termasuk efek yang diinginkan aktor intelektual pembunuh Munir dalam arena politik demokrasi elektoral ketika itu. Lalu, logika pembunuhan politik berbeda dengan kekerasan politik biasa. Karakteristik sang korban di sebuah pembunuhan politik sangat mungkin menjadi tujuan dari pembunuhan. Dalam berbagai pengalaman negara lain, pembunuhan politik kerap menimpa orang-orang yang dinilai berseberangan dengan pemerintah. "Munir jelas kritis pada institusi keamanan seperti militer dan intelijen, sebuah badan di mana telah ada keterlibatan beberapa orang dari agen rahasia tersebut," jelasnya. Munir juga vokal menyuarakan pertanggungjawaban negara untuk mengadili elite-elite tertentu yang berlatar belakang militer atas sebuah pelanggaran HAM. Mereka juga menilai bahwa kasus Munir harus dapat dijadikan peringatan bagi seluruh masyarakat Indonesia. "Pertama, betapa kotornya perpolitikan Indonesia saat berlangsung persaingan dalam pemilihan langsung presiden yang pertama dalam perjalanan sejarah Indonesia. Kedua, betapa minimnya jaminan keamanan maupun perlindungan hukum bagi pejuang demokrasi, hak asasi manusia dan keadilan sosial," ungkapnya. Desak Jokowi Usut Aktor Intelektual di Balik Kematian Munir Karena itu, mereka mendesak Presiden Jokowi untuk berani mengusut aktor intelektual di balik kasus Munir Said Thalib. Pengusutan aktor intelektual sangat penting untuk menunjukkan komitmen Presiden atas demokrasi. Ketidakmauan politik untuk membuktikan komitmen itu adalah cermin mengakarnya sifat otoritarianisme dalam negara Indonesia. "Menurut kami, negara bertanggung jawab untuk melakukan penyelesaian secara terbuka. Kasus yang merenggut nyawa Munir saat hendak mengejar pascasarjana di Utrecht University ini masih meninggalkan banyak pertanyaan. Kasus ini bukan hanya belum tuntas, tetapi kerap dipolitisasi dan menjadi bahan komoditas politik menjelang momen pemilihan umum," ungkapnya. Misalnya, kasus ini tidak hanya menjadi janji kampanye bagi calon Presiden, tetapi menjadi 'bom waktu' bagi rival politik atau oposisi untuk menyerang pesaingnya atau pemerintah lewat isu HAM. "Selain itu, ada beberapa alasan lain mengapa penyelesaian kasus Munir menjadi sangat penting bagi demokrasi. Pertama, agar terjadi perubahan wajah baru penegakan HAM. Kedua, perbaikan citra bagi wajah politik dan hukum di Indonesia," ucap mereka. Suatu negara demokrasi tidak mungkin lahir jika penegakan hukum, HAM, dan keadilan masih bisa terus diintervensi dan digembosi. "Oleh karena itu, sekali lagi, kami sejumlah organisasi dan tokoh demokrasi Indonesia mendesak Presiden Joko Widodo menuntaskan kasus Munir terutama dengan menuntut aktor intelektual di balik kematiannya untuk diadili di meja hijau. Selain mengubah wajah penegakan HAM di Indonesia, termasuk mencegah keberulangannya, penuntasan kasus ini akan memperbaiki citra demokrasi Indonesia yang semakin diregresi," tuturnya. Penyelesaian yang segera dan tuntas akan melahirkan suatu jaminan bahwa pembunuhan politik seperti ini tidak akan terulang pada pemilihan umum di masa depan. Penyelesaian kasus Munir akan menjadi tonggak upaya menanamkan prinsip perlindungan terhadap perbedaan pendapat dan penegakan hak politik semua warga negara. Pengungkapan kasus Munir juga akan menegaskan dihentikannya praktik-praktik kuno dan tidak beradab berwujud penggunaan kekerasan dalam politik di Indonesia.
