It is one of the great tragedies of the Aurora Cycle official art that they didn’t make Fin’s exo chonkier. Make it really in-your-face and obvious. It’s the first thing a lot of characters notice about him and it’s incredibly impressive that he built it himself??? Like damn king you dropped this 👑 you incredibly awesome gearhead

I could say a lot here about the representation of disability and mobility aids in media, but when he has an adapted chair in the ship just to accommodate his exo, I feel like it should be more obvious. At the very least, it should offer support to his entire body (he says things like “my fingers take a second to articulate” which implies that his suit’s area of effect extends to his extremities.)

Shin Seiki Evangelion, ou L'Évangile du Nouveau Siècle

Aujourd'hui je voulais vous parler de ce dessin animé culte et célèbre dans le monde entier qu'est Shin Seiki Evangelion (L'Évangile du Nouveau Siècle), aussi connu sous le nom de Neon Genesis Evangelion (L'Évangile de la Nouvelle Genèse).

« En 2000, une gigantesque explosion se produit en Antarctique. Ce cataclysme, officiellement provoqué par la chute d'un astéroïde, entraîne une montée des eaux de plusieurs dizaines de mètres et dévaste une grande partie de la planète, provoquant la mort de deux milliards de personnes ainsi qu'une nouvelle guerre mondiale.

Quinze ans plus tard, l'humanité a surmonté cet événement dramatique désigné comme le « Second Impact » mais de mystérieuses créatures géantes, les Anges, font leur apparition et tentent de détruire Tokyo-3, la nouvelle capitale-forteresse du Japon. Pour les combattre, l'organisation secrète NERV a mis au point les « Evangelion » (ou « EVA »), des géants humanoïdes d'apparence mécanique.

Shinji Ikari, jeune garçon de 14 ans, se rend à Tokyo-3 sur l'invitation de son père, directeur de la NERV, qu'il n'a pas revu depuis dix ans. Il est loin de se douter qu'il a été appelé pour piloter une EVA et prendre part au combat contre le « Troisième Ange ». Celui-ci n'est que le premier d'une longue série où il sera accompagné par Rei Ayanami, et plus tard Asuka Soryu Langley, et où chaque affrontement peut conduire à la disparition de l'humanité. Mais ils devront également régler leurs propres conflits intérieurs alors que la mystérieuse organisation SEELE, qui dirige secrètement la NERV, tente de mettre en place son « Plan de complémentarité de l'Homme » dont le but est de faire évoluer le genre humain vers un nouveau stade, ce qui n'est pas sans rappeler le concept de Surhomme de Nietzsche. »

« La série connaît immédiatement un grand succès et est saluée pour la qualité de son animation et son scénario sophistiqué. Commençant comme un anime classique de mecha post-apocalyptique, Evangelion surprend le public en accordant une grande place à l'introspection des personnages et en abordant des thèmes comme la dépression et le suicide, chose jusque-là rare dans l'animation. Plébiscitée autant pour ses scènes d'action parfois très sanglantes que pour ses réflexions, la série a acquis au fil des années un statut d'icône culturelle majeure de l'animation japonaise dont elle est aujourd'hui considérée comme l'un des fleurons des années 1990.

Hideaki Anno réalise cette série comme thérapie alors qu'il est en pleine dépression. Neon Genesis Evangelion est reconnu pour avoir plusieurs niveaux de lectures. Mais l'anime reste une véritable critique du phénomène otaku auquel Anno s'identifie. D'ailleurs les Evas représentent le corps maternel où les enfants peuvent se réfugier et fuir la réalité du monde. C'est ce cheminement scénaristique et psychologique qui explique que de nombreux fans n'aient pas apprécié la fin originale. »

Très connu au Japon, la popularité de ce dessin animé a largement dépassé ses frontières, et est devenu avec le temps une référence immanquable de la pop-culture.

Evangelion porte des messages très actuels qui raisonnent avec notre monde moderne et je souhaitais lui rendre hommage aujourd'hui.

Kamikazé : "vent divin", protection de Dieu accordée au Japon et à l'humanité (qui donne le mot "kamikaze" en français)

Les termes "mythe" et "pathos" (passion) font référence à la mythologie antique (en particulier grecque)

L'usage de ces deux termes (ainsi que le terme "thèse") fait également écho à la pensée allemande, notamment la psychanalyse de Freud et la philosophie de Nietzsche (Surhomme) et Hegel (dialectique).

Le thème de la grossesse fait référence à la maïeutique (accouchement des idées) de Socrate

L'intemporel Neon Genesis Evangelion

Neon Genesis Evangelion est devenu un manga culte pour les fans du genre Mecha et fin du monde. Actuellement, il est possible de se plonger dans cette histoire, assez ardue, dans une belle perfect edition en 7 tomes chez Glénat.

C'est une œuvre signée par Yoshiyuki Sadamoto.

Synopsis (l’officiel est au bas de ce billet) : Le big bang a donc eu lieu en l’an 2000 en Antarctique avec un cataclysme qui a rayé de la carte la moitié du globe terrestre.

15 ans après, dans ce monde post-apocalyptique, l’humanité tente de se reconstruire après ce Second Impact. Cependant, la guerre n’est pas terminée, les hommes doivent faire face à une forme de vie mystérieuse : les Anges. Le jeune Shinji Ikari (14 ans) est destiné à piloter l’Evangelion 01. Dans cet objectif, son père, le commandant de la NERV, une organisation scientifique et militaire placé sous le contrôle de l’ONU, le recrute.

Les Evangelions sont des unités mobiles de combat qui prenne la forme de mechas. Mais derrière cette armure de métal se cache un secret…

Si être pilote est un rêve pour de nombreux jeunes, cela est loin d’être le cas pour Shinji. D’ailleurs, dés la première case de l’histoire, le jeune garçon exprime son indifférence à la mort ou à un potentiel accident. Son seul intérêt est de se rapprocher de son inconnu de père.

Une chose est certaine, leur première confrontation n’est pas d’un grand enthousiasme, bien au contraire car Shinji va déjà faire face à la mort pour sauver l’humanité (selon les dire de son paternel).

Il va alors devoir se battre contre ces Anges qui attaquent en permanence la capitale forteresse Tokyo-3.

Pendant ce temps, la SEELE, une mystérieuse organisation qui dirige dans l’ombre la NERV, font tout pour accomplir le plan de complémentarité de l’homme. »

Le scénario est bourré de mystère, de psychologie et de religion. Ce dernier est rarement abordé dans le genre shonen. Autrement dit, on ne peut rester passif tout au long de cette histoire et parfois il est nécessaire de faire une pause pour ingurgité les événements.

Attention au dépressif… lecture non conseillé car ce n’est pas forcément très jouissif.

Bien entendu, il est toujours possible de (re)voir l’anime, sortie dans le milieu des années 1990 sur la plateforme Netflix. A ce propos, l’histoire diverge vers encore plus de pessimisme. On touche le fond...😂

Dans le même genre et plus récent : Darling in the FranXX. Là encore, ce sont les enfants qui peuvent sauver la planète Terre et c’est plus compréhensible (disponible en anime sur Crunchyroll).

Statt abzuebben wurde der Regen immer aufdringlicher. Fin’s Blick wanderte zu der gläsernen Kuppel, die vermutlich ohne Magie schon vor vielen Stürmen kaputt gegangen worden wäre. Doch für ihn war es leicht einen Schutz- und Verstärkungszauber auf das Glas zu legen, sodass es vermutlich selbst einem Tornado standhalten würde. Der junge Hexer kannte sich mit Magie aus. Er war mit ihr aufgewachsen und von klein auf brachte man sie ihm bei wie das Buchstabieren oder Schreiben. Tatsächlich war er noch vor seinem ersten gesprochenen Wort in der Lage gewesen Magie zu wirken. Damals war diese jedoch noch rein, unverfälscht, auch wenn man oft irrtümlicherweise davon ausging, dass die Dunkelhexen mit einer schwarzen Seele geboren wurden. Natürlich lag es ihnen nach so vielen Generationen der Dunkelheit in den Genen, im Blut, aber es war die Erziehung und die Bindung zu Pan, dem Gehörnten Gott, der die Seele einer jeder Hexer oder eines jeden Hexers verdarb und verdunkelte. Auch andere Hexen beteten Pan an, allerdings nur in einem gewissen Maß. Pan war der Todesgott unter den unzähligen Göttern, die es in seinem Glauben gab und doch stand er auch als Hüter der verstorbenen Seelen. Er war also nicht gänzlich boshaft, dennoch war er in der Dunkelheit erschaffen worden. Manchmal zweifelte Finnian diese Tatsache an. Niemand wurde in der Dunkelheit geboren, schon gar nicht ein Gott. Es wurde als Verrat und Ketzerei gewertet, wenn man die Legenden und Sagen als falsch abtat oder gar hinterfragte. Dabei stand die Magie dafür, dass man hinterfragen sollte, um zu lernen und sich weiterzubilden. Wie in jeder Religion, wie in jedem Kult gab es auch in seinem widersprüchliche Sachen, die keinen Sinn zu ergeben schienen. Fin war schon immer jemand gewesen, der hinterfragte und auf eigene Faust nachforschte und sich Wissen aneignete. Auch wenn er den Göttern Freya und Pan seine Magie und seine Gaben zu verdanken hatte, schloss er es nicht aus auch zu anderen Göttern zu beten. Dabei legte er sich nicht auf eine Mythologie oder eine Religion fest, auch wenn er sich trotz allem als Wicca fühlte.

Fin hatte gelernt solche Dinge für sich zu behalten, bis er jemandem vertraute. Allerdings war Vertrauen auch eine Sache, mit der er nicht leichtfertig umging. Fin vertraute im gewissen Maß seinen Zirkelmitgliedern, seinen Hohepriestern. Abgesehen davon schenkte er niemandem sein Vertrauen. Bisher war es noch nie so weit gekommen, als dass er darüber nachgedacht hatte. Wenn man sein ganzes Leben lang von Dunkelheit und den Toten umgeben war, lernte man irgendwann sich diesen anzuvertrauen, denn Tote konnten nicht sprechen. Jedenfalls konnten sie nicht über das sprechen, was ihnen eine Hexe oder ein Hexer anvertraute, wenn sie von eben solchen beschworen wurden. Im Moment der Beschwörung wurden sie an die magieausführende Person mit einem Schweige- und Treuezauber gebunden, sodass es ihnen nicht möglich war etwas weiterzutragen, was geflüstert wurde. Sich tagtäglich mit Toten zu umgeben hatte auch zur Folge, dass die Lebenden schnell in Vergessenheit gerieten und man so in eine Art Einsamkeit fiel, die vermutlich nur ein weiterer Totenbeschwörer oder Nekromant nachvollziehen konnte. Auf ihre Worte hin hob er schwach die Mundwinkel. Er konnte charmant sein und nutzte diesen Charme gewiss auch an, um Kunden dazu zu bringen Geld in seinem Laden auszugeben. „Komisch. Eigentlich bin ich mir sicher, dass ich dich noch nie in Rosemarkie gesehen habe, Jovana“ erwiderte er, ehe er auch einen Schluck des Tees nahm, der so heiß war, dass es ihm fast die Zunge verbrannte. „Aber manchmal führt das Schicksal zwei Menschen zusammen, wenn es so sein soll“ grübelte er laut nach, auch wenn er die Worte nur halbherzig ernst meinte. Das Schicksal war eine verworrene Sache, über die er oft und gerne nachdachte. Doch ob es nun wahrhaftig das Schicksal war, welches sie in seinen Laden gebracht hatte, wagte er fast zu bezweifeln. Auch wenn ihn die Bilder, die er bei ihrer Berührung gesehen hatte, nicht losließen. Vermutlich würde er noch bis spät in die Nacht hinein darüber nachdenken, was es damit auf sich hatte.

„Du kannst nicht zufällig Bilder in Köpfe anderer fließen lassen, oder?“ neugierig sah er sie durch die grünen Augen an. Oft hörte er, dass seine Augen an einen dichten Wald erinnerten. An Bäume, die an der Spitze von der Sonne geküsst wurden. War es wirklich sie gewesen, die ihm die Bilder gezeigt hatte? Aber das ergab keinen Sinn. Wieso sollte sie so etwas tun, wenn sie sich doch kaum kannten? Außerdem war ihm aufgefallen, dass auch sie etwas bleich geworden war, als sich ihre Hände berührt hatten. Vielleicht hatte auch sie diese Bilder gesehen und die Magie spielte ihnen beiden einfach nur einen grausamen Streich. Finnian konnte sich keinen Reim daraus machen, doch es verleitete ihn dazu nachdenklich auf seiner Unterlippe herumzukauen – eine dumme Angewohnheit, die er sich schon in seinen Kindheitstagen angeeignet hatte. Sein Blick wanderte wie von selbst wieder zu Jovana, die nur zwei Schritte von ihm entfernt stand und ebenfalls an ihrem Tee nippte. Der junge Hexer bemerkte, wie die wohlduftenden Kräuter allmählich zu wirken begannen und er sich deutlich entspannte. Es war, als würde eine Last von seinen Schultern abfallen, die sich seit ihrem Eintreten in seinen Laden aufgebaut hatte. Finnian hegte keine Vorurteile gegenüber den Lichthexen, allerdings wusste er, dass auch diese listig sein konnten. Und er wusste auch, wie die meisten Lichthexen über Seinesgleichen dachte und er konnte es ihnen nicht verübeln. Er war kein Unschuldslamm – er war verdammt weit entfernt davon und wenn er sie so anblickte war er sich sicher, dass sie das wusste.

ok so. what if the reason kal always speaks so formally is that that was all he was taught by whoever taught him english (cause it’s not his first language) and he had no EFL friends to speak informally with and he couldn’t be bothered to watch tv shows or read books in english so he just didn’t know slang?

As someone who only knows English, I hadn't even considered this but I am in love with this take.

I also love the idea that when Scarlett realises this, she sits Kal, Saedii and Auri down for a powerpoint presentation on all of the slang that she knows (which is expectedly a lot) and thinks they should know. She does a new presentation (that she refers to as a class) every couple of weeks until she thinks the group has got the knowledge to be released into the English speaking world.

That being said, Fin and Scarlett have the opposite problem. Fin grew up on a space station and Scarlett is a Face, so I reckon both know a few secondary languages and will every now and then slip an idiom into conversation that is definitely not an English one, confusing everyone but each other.

Basically, Tyler is the only one of them who can comfortably throw English slang around 100% of the time.

feel like this will be a very very VERY unpopular opinion but i don't really see the chemistry between scar and fin. like yeah, they're a sexy power couple i guess, but they never really had time in the series to develop their friendship before just falling head over heels in love. and that sucks, because all the other couples got more acquaintance before they got together.

and it's really clear to me how all of the other couples seem to uplift their partner and naturally support their partner's weaknesses. like auri convinces kal to take risks, and he (mostly tries to) keep her from running into dangerous situations without thinking (he's just generally the Most devoted partner one could Ever ask for though. and the times when he goes feral for her asdfkjdfd o h m y g o d).

tyler and saedii have their incredibly horny telepathy thing going on, and they are also just the Definition of a power couple. if you look up "power couple" in the dictionary theres a picture of saedii kissing tyler while also stabbing someone and they're also playing like three incredibly convoluted strategy games at once. maker's breath.

then we have zila and nari, and although they don't get that much screen time (page time?), we can see that after the timeskip zila is much more emotive and nari seems less prone to angry outbursts. and you canNot tell me they didn't work together like that.

idk its just like. in comparison i kinda feel like scar and fin's relationship is kinda meh. and i think the fandom kinda does them a disservice by making their relationship monogamous when im like 95% sure they would both be down for a long-term polyamorous relationship.

the ending kinda just feels like it wanted every single one of the characters to get with someone? or maybe im just aroace and im missing the point *shrug* just me thoughts here
