you worked as a barista at a coffee shop near the financial district of the city

and because there were both vampire and human customers, the cafe served a number of different drinks

some people disliked vampires, and there were a number of prejudices, but you didn’t particularly have a problem with them

“(y/n), can you manage taking orders?” your coworker asked breathlessly

you quickly hurried to take orders at the cash register, taking orders and handing people their change

while it wasn’t the ideal job, you definitely enjoyed making people’s days happier

you felt your heart speed up at the sight of one of your regulars, kang dongho

as usual, he was dressed nicely in a button-up and slacks, with his hair pushed back

dongho had been coming to the coffee shop for a while now, and you knew each other by name

as he wished you a nice day, you felt your cheeks heat up as you handed him his change

one night after work, your dorm mates invited you to go clubbing with them

and while you normally didn’t go out, you decided to tag along for the heck of it

once you arrived, you were almost instantly overwhelmed by the loud music and large crowd

one of your friends ordered drinks for everyone, but you only took a tiny sip before excusing yourself

you tried splashing water on your face in the bathroom, but even that didn’t help stop the strange, overwhelming in your chest

finally, you slipped outside the building to the back alley, taking a deep breath of the cold fresh air

you almost screamed in surprise at the sound of someone saying your name as you turned to see who it was

the tall vampire was leaning against the brick wall, looking extremely tired and haggard

“a-are you okay?” you asked, taking a tentative step forward

dongho breathed out slowly, shakily, his breath turning into condensation in the cold air

his skin looked so, so pale, like if you held it up to the light, you could see right through it

“i’m fine,” dongho said shakily, sending you a small smile, “just haven’t fed in a while, is all. what brings you here, (y/n)? you don’t seem like the type to go clubbing very much.”

“oh,” you blushed, looking down at your feet, “my dorm mates are here with me, and i figured I should get out more. and you?”

dongho chuckled, breathing still shaky, “i, ah, my company made a big sale, so i’m here celebrating with a few, um, a few co-workers.”

“dongho, are you sure that you’re alright?” you asked in concern, “you look ready to pass out, when was the last time that you fed?”

dongho winced, pressing down on his chest as though to alleviate pain, “it’s been a while,” he laughed again shakily, “you don’t need to worry about me, though.”

“you could feed from me,” you blurted out, feeling your cheeks heat up as soon as you said that

dongho’s intense stare made a shiver run through your body before he responded slowly

“really. i trust you.”

dongho took a step closer, “and you’re not drunk or under any influence?”

you shook your head, a bit surprised at how careful dongho was

“you’re sure you’re alright with this?” he asked softly, now only a few inches away from you

“y-yeah,” you replied equally soft, tugging your sleeve up to reveal your forearm

dongho grasped your wrist carefully, bringing one thumb up to his mouth before smoothing it over a spot on your mid-forearm, the contact making you shiver

“alright, ready?”

you just hummed in agreement, closing your eyes slightly 

you gasped as you felt first his cold lips touch your forearm, then the sharp prick of his fangs

a strange lightweight and heady sensation rushed through your body that made your fingers and toes tingle

it only lasted for less than half a minute before you felt dongho press his tongue against the wound and pull away

you almost collapsed, stumbling forward into dongho’s chest as a more intense light-headedness rushed through you

dongho quickly wrapped an arm around you to support you, shrugging out of his suit jacket and draping it around your shoulders

you felt a strange high, like you weren’t quite in your own body as you gazed up at dongho’s silvery eyes

they hadn’t been silver before, but they were extremely pretty, you thought to yourself as a slow (slightly dopey) smile spread across your face

“you’re really handsome,” you murmured, leaning against dongho’s solid chest, letting him prop you up

the taller vampire just laughed at that, a beautiful, melodic sound

“dongho!”

someone else stumbled into back alley, slightly more slight than dongho, but dressed in a similar, nice outfit

“oh, minhyun,” dongho said quietly, gently shifting the two of you so that he was facing him, “everything okay?”

“dongho, ‘m tired,” you slurred, feeling your eyes slowly drift open and then closed

“dongho, your eyes,” you vaguely heard the other guy-- minhyun-- gasp before you completely blacked out

when you came to again, you were in the backseat of a nice car, head leaning on dongho’s shoulder, his muscular arm draped around you protectively

“wh- wha, where am I?” you asked drowsily, sitting up

you could see minhyun, who was driving the car, send dongho a pointed look in the mirror

“we’re driving you back to your dorm,” dongho said gently, “just relax, okay?”

you nodded, gratefully accepting the water bottle that dongho held out to you

within a few minutes, you were at your aparment building, and dongho helped you up the stairs and unlocked the front door for him

you entered, tugging your shoes off while dongho stood awkwardly in the doorway

“oh, come in! i’m sorry,” you apologized in embarrassment, cringing at how oblivious you were, “unless your friend needs to you...”

“he’ll survive,” dongho assured you with a crooked smile, “listen, (y/n), there’s actually something i need to tell you.”

you looked up at dongho in concern, wondering what was wrong

“do you recall how my eyes changed color after i’d fed?” he asked you carefully

“oh yeah, they turned silver,” you nodded, blushing a bit at remembering him feeding on you

“and do you know, ah, what that means?” he asked carefully, looking a bit embarrassed himself

you just stared back at dongho blankly, racking your brain as to what he was talking about

“so vampires, we have, um, this thing called True Mates,” dongho explained slowly, “each vampire only has one True Mate in their life, and their eyes--”

“--go silver when they feed on them,” you finished breathlessly, staring up at dongho in shock

“(y/n), you’re, um,” dongho winced slightly, “ah, just saying it out loud sounds kind of weird.”

you laughed, partially out of how awkward and strange the situation was, “it’s okay, i understand what you’re trying to say.”

“and if this is weird for you and you aren’t comfortable, i completely understand, and we don’t have to do anything,” dongho rushed to say, running a hand through his hair, “please don’t feel pressured.”

you grinned up at the handsome man

“dongho, i’ve wanted to go out with you since the first time you stepped into the coffee shop,” you smiled up at dongho, “i don’t feel pressured.”

“really?” an adorable smile spread across dongho’s face, “then is it okay for me to do this?”

“do wha--”

your question was cut off by dongho carefully cupping your face like it was the most precious thing in the whole wide world and gently kissing you, sending shivers down your spine as his lips caressed yours
