Design of a Flare System Design
Design of a Flare System Design in LNG regasification facilities Design of a flare stack in LNG regasification facilities
Summary The torch or tea ( flare stack ) is a security system responsible for processing the surplus of gaseous hydrocarbons in a refinery. Prevents its direct emission into the atmosphere by replacing the vent with combustion; Therefore, this device also has an environmental function.
This investigation was dedicated to the design of a torch according to customer specifications and compliance with current legislation. The basic dimensions of the system were calculated based on the maximum thermal radiation of torch design and the available pressure at the entrance of the torch; for this, correlations of the fluid mechanics extracted from the CRANE book Fluid flow in valves, fittings, and pipes (Mexico City: McGraw-Hill, 1992) and the procedure and recommendations defined by the “API Recommended Practice 521” standard was used. The calculation was also made for the level of acoustic pressure typical of the operation of the torch, in order to comply with noise legislation.
Similarly, the application of the Gaussian statistical dispersion model ISC3 ( Industrial Source Complex Model ) was used to estimate the concentrations in the environment of pollutants produced by the torch, in order to comply with the environmental guidelines of the US Environmental Protection Agency (Washington DC, United States). The main applications of the system within the different industrial facilities or process plants where the torches are installed are described and the operation of a typical LNG regasification facility was emphasized.
