In between writing sprints, I looked up both Alfendi's and Flora's profiles because heck it's been a while since I played either Layton's Mystery Room or the original PL trilogy. In Flora's profile it mentions how the original Japanese in-game profile calls her the "self-proclaimed Layton's bride candidate"--and yes, that definitely is cringe and absolutely nowhere in the fandom does anyone actually ship the two, and almost all of the fandom basically ignores that fact.
But being reminded of that fact got me thinking... Why not write about it? Why not write about Flora's unrequited crush on Professor Layton? Why not use that to explore how she falls out of love with the idea of being his bride and ultimately falls out of love with him some time post Unwound Future? Clearly she cares about him, but she's also a very sheltered teenage girl that has no experience with interacting with other humans for the majority of her life. Of course she falls in love with the first--and most gallant--person that isn't a robot that she meets. But I think there's an arc there, even if just a subtle one, that can be used to show Flora moving away from the idea of just preparing herself to be Layton's wife (which is probably one big reason why she likes cooking so much despite currently being awful at it) and discovering something different, something new she can do to develop herself as a person and enter adulthood with new horizons ahead.
...Man, Level-5 really doesn't know what they're missing out on by completely sidelining this girl and missing all of her potential.
