Rosaria’s not stupid.  She knows the kid both hates her and hates this sort of shit — but, as Rosaria is not stupid, neither is she ever merciful, including with those she loves.  Which is to say, this little road trip — a mission that’s taking her out of the city’s walls for a few weeks — was deemed mandatory for the girl, and Rosaria (  rather easily, actually, they’re all afraid of her  ) strong - armed the other Sisters into allowing Barbara to come along.

Rosaria’s not stupid, nor is she kind, but she is loving at her core.  She loves Barbara, and wants to see her grow a fucking spine.  She’s strong, she’s capable, and it’s a spit in the face when she pretends to be small — chooses weakness over the risk of anything like BEING BETTER.  And then has the gall to be miserable about a life she’d sooner die than change.

But — the day’s done, a good day of fighting and killing and, even, the occasional decent one - liner.  Rosaria’s polearm buries itself in the earth, and she leans against it — just tired, not wounded.  “Let’s make camp.  I’ll get a fire going if you set up the tents.”

it’s no wonder barbara reaches the conclusion that this is a bad idea, that she shouldn’t have bothered coming here, that she’s intruding — leona gives, as always, very little in the way of a visual reaction. it’s almost impossible to read him, arms crossed and his eyes betraying nothing of his thoughts, and it’s not a stretch to read him as cold or unwelcoming. admittedly this hard exterior, as common as it may be on him, is only made more blatant by all the things left unsaid between them for far too long.

“ you’re already here, ” he responds to her apologies and backpedaling. “ you’re trembling like a newborn gazelle. come on. ” and without another word, he’s turning to head out of the lounge and back towards his room. when he doesn’t hear the sounds of her following him, he pauses to cast a sideways glance over his shoulder. “ ’m not makin’ you sleep out here. you wouldn’t be bothered, but none of these whelps are good at keeping quiet. ”

looks like he’s going to at least one class tomorrow because trein needs to be told the heating doesn’t reach the attic. ( it’s not like barbara would’ve told him. )

          Now, it would be odd seeing anyone outside of the city walls at this hour when really the only company should be the moon. Even most of the patrons of Angel’s Share had long since retired, but this period of the night is perfect for necromancers such as Cass. However, it’s not the usual time one would see a Deaconess. 

          Cass straightens, slightly haloed by the moonlight, and reaches up with one muddy, gloved hand to fix his hat. His other stays situated around the handle of his shovel, still stuck in the ground. 

          “What are you doing here at this hour? Can’t sleep?”

“Here, here, I can heal that,” Emira says, voice easy and comfortable, older - sister in the extreme — the other girl may be older than her, but Emira doesn’t know that, and this little blonde looks Amity’s age —— if not younger.  Her hands raise, gently, a glowing circle forming that she holds up to her own cheek to demonstrate that it’s safe.  “My name’s Emira.  That’s a pretty nasty bruise, hon.  Is...everything okay?”

“Oh, it’s fine,” the girl says, smiling in that sweet way she does, as unsettling and kind as ever.  There’s a messy gash on the back of her hand, for all that the child, apparently, doesn’t feel it.  Her voice is airy and sweet and half - there when she continues.  “I was doing some gardening and must have slipped, that’s all.  But I can’t really be hurt, so it’s okay.”

For a moment there’s an unmistakable drop in Amity’s facade. The usually dour picture of perfection turning to a near squeaking red faced fanatic at the mere sight of the idol. She would recognize the her idol anywhere. You don’t forget someone’s face after spending hours trying to learn their dance routines off the internet. But never in her life did she think she’d actually be face to face with her. Her brain was firing on all cylinders trying to pick out what it should do. Does she run? Does she introduce herself? Ask her if she knows Emira? Hunt Emira down and demand to know why she didn’t warn Amity in advance that Barbara fricking Pegg was her school mate?? None of those choices leave outside the brain though. Instead she remains firmly planted to the ground like a rooted tree. Her eyes nearly bulging and mouth agape.

Then a blink occurs then another and another. Before Amity realizes the mask is all but gone.  What are others going to say if they see her like this? Going all gaga over some girl who just happens to have the prettiest voice Amity’s ever heard. Emira and Edric would never let her live this moment down if they saw it. Her mother would be so disappointed, so upset. She’d be in so much trouble. The very idea is enough to have Amity scrambling to bring her mask back into place.

And completely failing to do so.

     ❝ it’s just a scratch. ❞ well, a scratch on his cheek and potentially a minor concussion resulted from the fall. really, the school needed better safety for flying lessons and clubs ( not that epel would ever be one to advocate for that, though ). nevertheless, once his vision stopped spinning every time he stood up, he would be just fine. and – hopefully – she’d never find out and force him to get himself looked over. in his mind, a few scratches and scrapes would make himself look less weak. he didn’t want to go back to looking like a pristine doll again.

     rumor has it that barbara has some kind of healing-based unique magic, although he’d never actually seen it done before. but it does make sense. on one hand, she obviously cares for people’s well being, perhaps even more than her own. her magic could, and should, reflect that. on the other hand, epel could’ve sworn he saw a small bruise on her wrist the other day ( from someone grabbing her, maybe? ). if she truly could heal people with just one spell, surely she would have used it on herself.

“Ah, you must be Barbara.”  Yelan knows everything that happens in this city, of course / including when famed little girls from Mondstadt disappear into it / but who would she be, to deny the other’s freedom?  So she hadn’t interfered with the girl’s escape, and has no real intention of interfering with whatever her plans are now that she’s returned.

Beidou will be so irritated when she finds out they’ve talked.  It’ll be hysterical.  “Oh, don’t look so frightened.  I’ve no intention of causing any trouble for you.  I was just hoping to talk.”

the captain is by all appearances asleep by the unconscious girl — she was pulled out of the water and hoisted on - board, and now she’s lying breathing but unconscious on the deck and he’s leaning against the mast beside her, eye shut, chest moving with even breaths. the crew moves around the ship, tending to their usual duties as though nothing’s changed.

as soon as her breathing changes, he’s cracking his eye open to watch her. “ ’s not every day someone’s found floating in the ocean like that, ” he says by way of greeting.

In their attempts to expand their newsletter to the newly-opened land of Inazuma , they had arranged an intern to travel from Fontaine all the way across Teyvat for negotiations with the Yae publishing house , but they had encountered casualties on the road and had reached out to Mona , since she was closer to the ports to take charge of it . 

The deal had been simple , an all-expenses-paid trip to Inazuma with the company of one assistant . And despite her obvious popularity within the land of freedom ( Read: barely any friends ) , she had ended up asking the young deaconess who more than anyone in that city needed a break .
