"If the strength of horses be of God, or be his gift (Job 39:19), then trust not in the strength of horses: use the strength of horses, but do not trust the strength of horses."

Scripture is...
First, Scripture is profitable for teaching. It is to be used to instruct people to know God better, especially salvation through faith in Christ [v.15]. Second, Scripture is profitable for reproof or rebuke, the idea of exposing or pointing out sin. Third, Scripture is useful for correction. Scripture both points out sin and offers a solution to it. Fourth, Scripture is profitable for training in righteousness. Though similar to teaching, training is more focused on practical application [sanctification]. From Scripture, we learn what is true, what is wrong, how to correct wrong, and how to apply truth. ~ BibleRef

SUNDAY EXTRA: Mallard on the Settle and Carlisle
LNER Class A4 4468 Mallard is a 4-6-2 ("Pacific") steam locomotive built in 1938 for operation on the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) at Doncaster Works to a design by Nigel Gresley. Its streamlined, wind tunnel-tested design allowed it to haul long-distance express passenger services at high speeds. On 3 July 1938, 'Mallard' broke the world speed record for steam locomotives at 126 mph (203 km/h), which still stands.
Here is a near-complete original recording of a VERY rare documentary recorded on its original and only ever transmission on BBC1 back on Monday 10th July 1989 which showed record-breaking 'A4' No. 4468 "Mallard" hauling rail tours on the beautiful Settle and Carlisle railway over the weekend of July 16th and 17th 1988.

SUNDAY EXTRA 2.0: The Burnden Park Disaster
Tragically, this disaster occurred on the ‘railway end’ of the ground and is a good reminder that you never know the day or hour when you are called home in Christ.

Then came the Sun...
“I am the light of the world”; and before His coming, His appearance was foretold in tokens of purple and gold. Here and there, in Isaiah and Jeremiah, we have great peaks tipped with the light of the coming day, suggesting the glory in which the whole world would be bathed in after time. “He shall feed his flock like a shepherd”; is not that a foretoken of the tenth chapter of John? “Liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound”; is not this the herald of the wonderful happenings which thrill the gospel story through and through? And then, after all these golden hints of promise there came the Sun, the Sun of Righteousness with healing in His wings, and the whole world passed into a new day. ~ James Hastings

They who accept Christ as their life, and truly live in Him and by Him, walk in light and not in darkness. The clouds and gloom which overhung their life are dissipated. Their horizon is widened, their prospect cleared, and all things with which they have presently to do are seen in their true dimensions and relations. ~ Marcus Dods

The true Guide of Israel
In commemoration of the Pillar of Fire that led their fathers in the trackless desert, the people lit large lamps round the Temple, and gave themselves up to dancing and revelry. But this, too, was no doubt felt to be for the superficial souls that can live upon rites and symbols, and do not seek to lay bare their inmost being to the very touch of eternal reality. Not merely the cynic would smile as venerable men joined in the lamp-light dance, but possibly even the grave and pious onlooker, looking back on his own mistakes in life, and conscious of the blind way in which he was still blundering on, stood wondering where the true Guide of Israel, the real Light of human life was to be found. In sympathy with all such longing after truth and clear vision Jesus cries, “I am the light of the world; he that follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” ~ Marcus Dods

Vanish in the unclouded heaven...
In autumnal mornings mists settle over the Connecticut Valley, and lie cold and damp upon the meadows and the hill sides, and it is not till the sun rises and shines down warm upon them that they begin to move; and then there are swayings, and wreathings, and openings, till at length the spirit which has tormented the valley can stay no longer, but rises and disappears in the air. So is it when the Sun of Righteousness shines upon the troubles which brood over our souls. Shining but a little, they only fluctuate; but if the Sun will shine long, they lift themselves and vanish in the unclouded heaven. ~ H.W. Beecher

The darkness has fled...
Wheresoever the Gospel has been published and received as a communication from God, the darkness has fled as night flies before the sun… The pardon of sin, justification through the Mediator’s righteousness, the gradual overcoming of the corruptions of nature, guidance in difficulty, guardianship in danger, comfort in affliction, triumph in death—all these are in the portion of him who follows Christ— And are not these the light—yea, the light of life? ~ Penny Melville

Quote
But really why should you be so concerned about it, if you're not going there. You know rather than being all upset over that aspect, just look for the Lord, and escape the place, and then you don't have to worry about it. Whether or not it's temporarily, whether or not you are consumed there, whether or not you're going to go on for a period of time, or whatever.
Charles Smith

Jesus as the One Who Defeats the Sea Dragon
Psalm 89 is a royal psalm that speaks of the king, and he is described as someone who will rule the sea, something only God can do. We can see the fulfillment of this in the gospels where Jesus walks on the raging sea.
