Among the various international cuisines that have gained popularity on the island, Indian food stands out for its bold flavors, aromatic spices, and diverse range of dishes. Over the past few years, the demand for Indian takeaway in Malta has grown significantly, offering locals and visitors a convenient way to enjoy the rich flavors of India from the comfort of their homes.
Whether you’re craving a hearty curry or a spicy biryani, Indian takeaway in Malta offers a delicious and accessible way to experience one of the world’s most flavorful cuisines.
The Rise of Indian Cuisine in Malta
Indian cuisine is celebrated worldwide for its diversity and ability to cater to different palates, ranging from mild and creamy dishes to fiery, spice-laden curries. In Malta, the rise in popularity of Indian takeaway has mirrored global trends, with more people looking for convenient yet authentic international dining experiences. The Maltese population, with its deep appreciation for flavorsome food, has welcomed Indian cuisine with open arms. Indian restaurants have popped up in various parts of the island, catering to both locals and the growing expat community.
The takeaway scene, in particular, has become a favorite option for people looking to enjoy quality Indian meals without the need for a formal dining setting. With the ease of online ordering, delivery apps, and the rising popularity of takeaway services, it’s never been easier to savor authentic Indian food in Malta.
What Makes Indian Takeaway So Appealing?
One of the primary reasons Indian takeaway is so appealing in Malta is the sheer variety of dishes available. Indian cuisine offers a rich spectrum of flavors, textures, and aromas that cater to a wide range of tastes. From creamy curries like Butter Chicken and Paneer Tikka Masala to spicier options like Vindaloo or Rogan Josh, there’s something for everyone.
The ability to tailor dishes to different levels of spiciness also makes Indian cuisine appealing to a broad audience. Maltese customers, known for their love of robust flavors, often enjoy experimenting with Indian dishes, adjusting spice levels to suit their preferences. Indian takeaway services allow customers to explore a vast array of flavors at their convenience, making it ideal for weeknight dinners, weekend feasts, or social gatherings.
Must-Try Indian Takeaway Dishes in Malta
The variety of Indian takeaway options in Malta is truly impressive. Below are some of the most popular dishes that can be found at Indian takeaway outlets around the island:
Butter Chicken (Murgh Makhani): A creamy, mildly spiced dish featuring succulent pieces of chicken cooked in a rich tomato-based gravy with butter and cream. This dish is perfect for those who prefer a milder yet flavorful curry and pairs beautifully with naan or jeera rice.
Chicken Biryani: A fragrant rice dish that’s cooked with aromatic spices, marinated chicken, and herbs. Biryani is a one-pot meal that offers layers of flavor, from the heat of the spices to the cooling notes of herbs and yogurt. It’s a popular takeaway dish that’s hearty and satisfying.
Paneer Tikka Masala: For vegetarians, this dish is a must-try. Paneer, a type of Indian cottage cheese, is marinated in spices and grilled before being simmered in a rich, spicy tomato gravy. This dish is packed with flavor and is a great option for those who want a meat-free yet protein-rich meal.
Lamb Rogan Josh: Originating from the Kashmir region, this dish features tender lamb cooked in a rich, spiced gravy with yogurt, herbs, and aromatic spices. The slow-cooking method ensures that the lamb is melt-in-your-mouth tender, making this a popular option for meat lovers.
Samosas: A popular Indian snack, samosas are crispy pastry pockets filled with a savory mix of potatoes, peas, and spices. They’re the perfect takeaway item for those looking for a light yet satisfying appetizer or snack.
Catering to Modern Lifestyles
One of the key reasons for the success of Indian takeaway in Malta is its ability to cater to modern lifestyles. Authenticity and Fusion: The Evolution of Indian Food Delivery in Malta
Tumblr media
Indian cuisine, with its rich tapestry of flavors, aromas, and textures, has carved a significant niche in the global culinary landscape. In Malta, a country known for its diverse cultural influences, Indian food has gained a loyal following. The demand for Indian cuisine, particularly through delivery services, has been growing steadily. This surge in popularity has sparked a fascinating evolution in the way Indian food is presented and delivered in Malta, blending the lines between authenticity and fusion.
The Appeal of Authentic Indian Cuisine
Authentic Indian cuisine is celebrated for its use of spices, fresh ingredients, and traditional cooking methods that have been passed down through generations. In Malta, the allure of authentic Indian food lies in its ability to transport diners to the vibrant streets of India, where each dish tells a story. Traditional dishes like biryani, tandoori chicken, and butter chicken are popular choices for those seeking the true flavors of India. These dishes offer a deep connection to Indian culture, showcasing the intricate balance of spices and the artistry of Indian cooking.
For many Indian restaurants in Malta, maintaining authenticity is a point of pride. Chefs often go to great lengths to source ingredients that are true to the original recipes, even importing specific spices from India to ensure the flavors remain genuine. This commitment to authenticity is not just about preserving tradition but also about offering an immersive culinary experience to customers who crave the distinctive tastes of India.
The Rise of Fusion in Indian Cuisine
While authenticity remains a cornerstone of Indian cuisine, the rise of fusion food has brought a new dimension to Indian food delivery in Malta. Fusion cuisine blends elements from different culinary traditions to create innovative dishes that appeal to a broader audience. In the context of Indian food in Malta, fusion often involves incorporating local Maltese ingredients or Western culinary techniques into traditional Indian recipes.
This fusion approach has led to the creation of unique dishes that offer a fresh take on classic Indian flavors. For instance, you might find Indian-inspired pizzas topped with tandoori chicken, or wraps filled with spiced chickpeas and Maltese herbs. These fusion dishes cater to the adventurous palate, offering something familiar yet intriguingly different. The fusion trend also reflects the adaptability of Indian cuisine, which has historically absorbed and adapted influences from various cultures.
In Malta, where the culinary scene is a melting pot of Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and European influences, the fusion of Indian food with local flavors feels like a natural progression. It allows Indian restaurants to stand out in a competitive food delivery market while also appealing to a diverse customer base. Moreover, fusion dishes often provide an entry point for those who may be hesitant to try traditional Indian food, offering a more approachable introduction to the cuisine.
Balancing Authenticity and Fusion in Food Delivery
As Indian food delivery continues to grow in Malta, restaurants face the challenge of balancing authenticity with fusion. While some customers seek the comfort and familiarity of traditional Indian dishes, others are drawn to the novelty and creativity of fusion cuisine. Successful Indian restaurants have learned to cater to both preferences, offering a menu that respects tradition while also embracing innovation.
One way restaurants achieve this balance is by offering a diverse menu that includes both authentic and fusion options. This allows customers to choose based on their mood or preference, ensuring that everyone can find something they enjoy. Additionally, some restaurants experiment with seasonal fusion specials while keeping their core menu rooted in authenticity. This approach keeps the menu dynamic and interesting without straying too far from the essence of Indian cuisine.
The packaging and presentation of food for delivery also play a role in how authenticity and fusion are perceived. Thoughtful packaging that maintains the integrity of traditional dishes, such as keeping sauces separate to preserve texture, can enhance the authenticity of the experience. Meanwhile, fusion dishes may come with playful, modern packaging that reflects their creative origins.
The Future of Indian Food Delivery in Malta
The future of Indian food delivery in Malta will likely see a continued interplay between authenticity and fusion. As the market for food delivery grows, so too will the demand for diverse culinary experiences. Indian restaurants will continue to innovate, finding new ways to blend the rich heritage of Indian cuisine with the contemporary tastes of Maltese diners.
This evolution is a testament to the adaptability and enduring appeal of Indian food. Whether through the comforting familiarity of a traditional curry or the exciting novelty of a fusion creation, Indian food delivery in Malta offers something for everyone. As restaurants navigate the delicate balance between authenticity and fusion, they are not only shaping the future of Indian cuisine in Malta but also contributing to the broader global conversation about food, culture, and innovation.

Vintage food delivery? An old Honda 70 ‘cub’ motorcycle parked in front of two vibrantly coloured traditional Maltese doors in Main Street, Żurrieq, #Malta. COLOUR AND CHARACTER There’s nothing nicer than roaming the old streets of Malta’s towns and villages and coming across the quirky doors of the townhouses along the narrow streets. The quietness of some of these old roads greatly contrasts with the vibrantly coloured apertures on many of the houses. But it doesn’t stop there, as there is no shortage of interesting things to look at and discover. A town you must visit is Żurrieq in the Southern Region of Malta - one of the oldest towns on the islands and immensely rich in history. Tumblr media
Mantvydas Narusevicius began his career in business straight out of college. He established a profitable Wolt Food Delivery based on his ingenuity and perseverance. By honing his business talents, Narusevicius managed to open a series of successful companies across several different industries over the years.
Mantvydas established the most significant employment agency in Malta, a feat that requires strong business acumen and a thorough knowledge of the labor market in the area and the needs of both employers and job seekers.
But how did Mantvydas Narusevicius achieve such success in such a short amount of time?
It all started with a clear vision and a willingness to take risks.
The story began when Mantvydas was just 19 years old, working as an account manager at one of the largest IT companies in Lithuania.
While he enjoyed his work, he felt something was missing from his life. "I wanted more than just a job; I wanted to create something meaningful, something that would make me happy both professionally and personally," Mantvydas explains.
So he quit his job and moved, where he worked for another company for two years before deciding to start his own business – which would become WFDM Ltd., now one of the most successful recruitment agencies in Malta.
When Mantvydas first arrived in Malta, he saw a gap in the market for a high-quality recruitment agency that could connect top talent with the best job opportunities. He knew there was a demand for such a service, and he was determined to fill it.
When asked why he decided to start WFDM Ltd, Mantvydas said: "The reason I started my business was that I saw a gap in the market for a high-quality recruitment agency that could connect top talent with the best job opportunities. I knew there was a demand for such a service, and I was determined to fill it."
Mantvydas said that his experience as an entrepreneur has been advantageous so far. "I've had an amazing experience so far! It has been challenging but rewarding when you see the results after months of hard work!"
Looking ahead, Mantvydas hopes to expand his business further and make it one of Malta's leading recruitment agencies.
"I would like to grow my business further by expanding my team and ensuring we always offer exceptional customer service!
To get started, Mantvydas WFDM poured all of his energy and resources into building his business. He spent countless hours networking, building relationships with potential clients, and developing a solid online presence. He also invested in the latest technology and tools to ensure that his agency could handle the demands of the modern job market.
The company has grown from a small startup to one of Europe's most successful recruitment agencies. It now employs over 150 people and works with some of the largest corporations in the world. The company's success was built on hard work and dedication from its founder and employees.
Matthew Narusevicius is a man with his feet firmly on the ground but his gaze fixed firmly on the horizon. He is a man with a vision and a passion that has made Malta his home and is passionate about helping to develop its economy.
