COVID-19 cases in Bohol up; local transmission down to 41%
#PHinfo: COVID-19 cases in Bohol up; local transmission down to 41%
CORTES, Bohol, Oct. 17 (PIA) -- From 29 cases a month ago, COVID-19 cases in Bohol has now doubled with 65 active cases as of Oct. 16, 2020.
But from 58 percent of cases by local transmission in September, the figure is now down to 41 percent, based on an infographic from the Bohol Inter-Agency Task Force (BIATF).
Of the 29 cases then, 17 cases (58 percent) were of local transmission and the 12 cases (41 percent) were traced from either returning locally stranded individuals (LSIs), Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), or Authorized Persons Outside of Residence (APOR).
A month later, of the 65 cases, 27 cases (41 percent) are traced to local transmission, while 38 cases (59 percent) were from returning LSIs, OFWs, or APOR.
INFORMATION IS CRITICAL. Bohol IATF Spokesperson Dr. Cesar Tomas "Yul" Lopez makes sure there is a daily press briefing on case updates so communities will have an idea where the towns with active cases are. (PIA Bohol)
On Sept. 16, 2020, most of the COVID-19 cases were centered in Tubigon with 10 active cases, with a single case in Calape.
Of Tubigon’s 10 active cases, nine were reportedly local transmissions while the other one was a medical health worker presumably at the Tubigon Community Hospital.
For Calape, the infection was traced to an LSI who came home.
The same month also saw five cases for San Miguel, which has also a town hospital cum infirmary, with a single case in Trinidad and another case in Ubay.
Of San Miguel’s cases then, two were said to be of local transmission while three were traced to an LSI.
Trinidad’s and Ubay’s single cases each were reportedly locally transmitted infections.
Meanwhile, Candijay had five cases, with no other cases in its surrounding towns.
Of Candijay’s five cases, all of them were from LSIs.
All three hubs form an interesting triangle of COVID-19 hubs on the Bohol map.
Other reported cases of infections then were two locally transmitted cases in Talibon, one local transmission in Carmen, and one each for Jagna, Loboc, and Dimiao who are returning LSIs.
A month later, Tubigon, which is a critical hub for trade and transport in northwestern Bohol, still has seven cases.
Sagbayan town has overtaken it with nine new cases, a single local transmission and eight cases from returning LSIs.
Adjacent to Tubigon, San Isidro also records its two cases: one local transmission and another one, a health care worker.
To Tubigon’s southeast, Catigbian also owns a case, one from an LSI.
North of Bohol, Talibon, which had a potential epidemic controlled in its Guindacpan Island, now has eight cases which are all locally transmitted.
Bien Unido, in Talibon’s east, is still saddled with two active cases.
Getting zero cases right after properly managing its potential problem with Malingin Island, Bien Unido is back in the COVID-19 map with two local transmissions.
San Miguel, which used to be the second point in the triangle of infection hubs in Bohol, now has three cases: two locally acquired transmissions and one health care worker.
In nearby Ubay town, two COVID-19 cases are reported: one for a returning OFW and another for an LSI.
In President Carlos P Garcia Island, a case is reported for an LSI.
In last month’s other point in the triangle, Candijay has three active cases: one local transmitted case involving a health worker, and two cases courtesy of returning LSIs.
Another case southeast of Candijay, in Anda, is an LSI.
In Jagna and Sierra Bullones, a single case each were reported this month, all involving returning OFWs.
Down in Dimiao and on its north, Bilar, one case each was reported, both from LSIs, while Loboc, south of Bilar, has a single LSI case.
New areas to watch in October are the cases in the cluster towns in Dauis, Tagbilaran, and Baclayon as well as in Loon, Antequera, and San Isidro.
Dauis’ two cases are locally acquired, and another one involves an OFW.
In the case of Baclayon, the patient is an LSI, while in Tagbilaran City, the cases reported include a returning LSI and an authorized person who has travelled outside Bohol in the last 14 days.
For Loon, its four cases involve two returning LSIs and two returning OWS.
Antequera, on the other hand, reports a case from an OFW and three LSIs who came home in the last 14 days.
As to Carmen’s case, the infection is carried in by two returning OFWs and two LSIs.
Overall, since Oct. 16, of Bohol’s 65 active cases, 27 of these are locally transmitted and all cases have been contained in isolation facilities or are in communities where granular lockdowns are implemented to curb the spread of the disease.
For the 38 remaining cases, all are accounted for and are in isolation facilities monitored by healthcare workers, assured Bohol IATF spokesperson Dr. Cesar Tomas Lopez. (rahc/PIA-7/Bohol)
