Making this its own post actually - I can't help but notice that some people, despite picking up on support needs language over functioning language...still can't get past the high-functioning/low-functioning dichotomy and judge it in others based solely on outward signs and just use "support needs" language as a synonym for the same flawed concept.
Like, compare two autistic people; many people will look at someone whose internet posts use choppy, "awkward" grammar and go "ah, high support needs!"...even if it turns out that a little bit of patience with communication difficulty is damned near the ONLY support need they have. Conversely, I'm "well-spoken" and don't have many strong, hard-to-avoid sensory aversions, the only real "typical" one I have is fluorescent lights and I'm pretty okay at masking that one most of the time; in fact I'm more inclined to seek stimulation than to avoid it, so...you hear I'm autistic, and, ah, low support needs, I only need to Buy Product (fidget toys, weighted blankets, chew jewelry, MAYBE earplugs for when euphoric overstimulation stops being euphoric) and I'm basically 100% abled! Right?
Nope! My interroception is basically nonexistent until a bodily need becomes immediately urgent and physically painful. I have almost every physical comorbidity in the book; generalized chronic pain, stomach issues, hypermobility, the works - and when my dyspraxia combines with my hypermobility, the result is me being so injury-prone that it's not even misleading to say I've been an on-and-off mobility aid user for nearly as long as I've been walking. Combine that with my lack of interroception making it hard for me to judge when I'm fatigued, and it's even worse. Sure, I have lots of highly-valued skills, both physical and intellectual; I'm an engineer, I fucking love designing and building things and do it on a personal and occasionally freelance basis, I get in the ZONE - but I can't get a steady long-term job with those skills because I'm very limited in how long I can do it for both mental and physical reasons, and no one around me wants to hire an engineer or welder or machinist or forklift operator or anything like that for a 16-hour max week, and many of the seemingly very few intense sensory aversions I do have are found in those environments (e.g., working with metals often means exposure to fire brick my beloathed) and way harder to deal with in a professional environment than on my own terms, and did I mention being ridiculously injury-prone? There are aspects of personal care I struggle with, and "cosmetic" procedures that would probably dramatically improve my life, for sensory reasons. My face-to-face social skills are...garbage, despite me having a strong interest in communication as a compensation Thing; I can fake my way through a conversation but I'm usually screaming on the inside, overthinking everything, for absolute terror that I'm getting a bad grade at human interaction, which REALLY sucks because I'm actually more extroverted than introverted, I want to spend time with people, I want to socialize more...but my brain is just out to kneecap me all the time. This isn't even getting into the ADHD side of things or other physical issues. In short, I outwardly seem...pretty "normal" even when only masking one (1) item, but in my private life...I hate to admit it sometimes because it makes people dismiss everything else I have to say, but I don't really function well. I'm lucky to have understanding people in my life, because the likely alternative for me would be, at best, moving back in with my parents for the rest of their lives, and at worst (or probably after that), an institution.
...really didn't think this was how my life would go, but the fact that no one expects someone with my strengths to have my needs, not even me until just a few years ago, well, that's part of WHY it is what it is.
Like. People like me, or indeed that fairly common other theoretical guy who prominently struggles with communication but not much else, are WHY we jettisoned high-functioning/low-functioning labels in favor of discussing support needs. "Low support/high support" wasn't supposed to be just a less clinical synonym for the exact same externally judged concept of how well someone can pass for abled and/or perform a function valued under capitalism.
Tl;dr: yes you've stopped using "functioning" LANGUAGE, but have you stopped THINKING of support needs in "high-function/low-function" terms?

Any headcanon of how Luigi and Guido met? 👀
Guido "fast hands" Forklift was down and out on the streets of Carsoli, unhoused and unable to hold a job because if conditions or procedures were not to his exacting specifications, he'd quit. Back home, in a distant part of Italy and relying purely on Guido's infrequent letters to have news of their prodigal son, Guido's family despaired, fearing he was headed for a scrapheap of his own making.
Under duress, Guido pickpockets Luigi. It's not that he's not successful--he is, and Luigi doesn't suspect a thing--but as they're making polite conversation and Guido is putting the icing on his sleight of hand, Guido feels in Luigi a kindred spirit. Someone with the same ideals. Perhaps even the same dreams.
He admits his crime.
Many years later (though they are both still young--it's only 1965, and the ink is still wet on the Hart-Cellar Act), when Luigi has his sights set on AMERICA and Guido is more reticent, Luigi reminds him of this. He uses it as leverage and if it is not his proudest moment, he does not admit it. He calls in his favor, begs his dearest friend across the ocean with him. This dream will only work with you, he says, on some days. You owe me. This is how we balance the books, he says, on others.
Guido goes.

Denied an abortion, Allie Phillips is now running for office : NPR
The path to Tennessee politics for Allie Phillips began last year in her doctor's office. She was 19 weeks pregnant when she got the devastating news about her unborn daughter: only two of the four chambers in her heart were formed.
It was one of many severe congenital issues. The fetus was incompatible with life.  ...
... The doctor laid out the options. The first was to stay pregnant and brace for a likely miscarriage. The second was to terminate the pregnancy – at the time, Tennessee had a near-total abortion ban, though it has since added some narrow exceptions. So going out of state was the only possibility. "She couldn't offer me any resources," Phillips says.  ...
Phillips and her husband live a modest life. Phillips runs a daycare out of her house, and her husband is a forklift mechanic. Flying out of state on a few days' notice wasn't something they could do with ease, so they started a fundraiser and asked friends and family for help. After days of frantic phone calls around the country, she made an appointment at a clinic in New York to have the procedure. When she got there, the fetal heartbeat had already stopped. She was in danger of becoming septic.
"I'm very thankful for that clinic because they treated me like a human being," Phillips says. "Unlike my state did."
When she returned home, grieving and angry, two things happened quickly. The first was that she joined a number of other women who, with the help of the Center for Reproductive Rights, are suing Tennessee in hopes of changing the state's austere laws.  ...

Ok I got started thinking about pokemon veterinary practices and figured I can use all the I-was-almost-vet-tech knowledge I can't use anymore because covid wrecked my career plans even though i was on a fast track to get into the field in high school anyways!!! Aimless rambling about it.
First off, the thing about pokemon veterinary practices is the likely the availability of spore moves. Anesthesia is widely used but poses danger for a lot of animals- birds and rodents especially tend to not like anesthesia, yet it's necessary for certain procedures. So, instead of traditional anesthetic, would something like a sleep powder and local anesthetic work with less risk of hypothermia or other complications??? Also, words like radial, distal, cranial, et cetera. What about when it's a pokemon with many legs??? or heads??? would it be labeled head 1 2 3 et cetera??? like, cranial 2?
Also, most of vet terms (well, medical) is prefix, suffix. hema/toma. nephr/itis. tachy/cardic. hydro/cephaly. Would new ones exist in the pokemon universe for the random limbs pokemon tend to have, or weird organs, or new kinds of problems and internal processes?
Also, for X-rays, the techs have to be right there oftentimes to restrain the patient while the imaging is being taken. Of course, they wear dosimeter badges to measure radiation, but would any pokemon be able to sit in the room and harmlessly absorb the scatter radiation? Not that it tends to be much of an issue due to the precautions taken, but just a random thought. I'm not here to fuel anti 5G electric tower antivax stuff.
Now I'm thinking of restraints. Meowth in the cat bag. forklift, lateral recumbency. Imagine trying to get a muzzle on a mightyena... idk. a very fun topic.

Cargo Handling Services On Ships – 10 Tips That Can Save Your Life
Tumblr media
The process of providing cargo handling services has changed from being entirely manual to requiring the most modern materials handling machinery available. However, since people still handle a significant portion of the cargo, a wide variety of critical safety risks are basically made possible.
The numerous factors that must be kept in mind in order to carry out cargo handling activities aboard ships safely are crucial for maritime workers to be fully aware of. You may ensure that you are able to handle cargo securely aboard ships by being aware of the key safety elements and using materials handling equipment as needed.
Let's look at some of the crucial advice that should be remembered when handling marine goods. It can be the difference between life and death to know this advice:
Tip 1: Use protective gear
When transferring freight from one location to another, it is crucial to wear the proper personal protection equipment. When handling cargo on ships, safety gear including safety harnesses, safety helmets, safety shoes, and other items must always be used. Working without such tools puts your life in serious danger. Additionally, be careful to utilize any protective equipment as intended by understanding how to use it. Maintenance of this equipment and inspecting it for damage before use are additional factors that must be taken into account.
Tip 2: Comprehend all safety procedures and don't obstruct someone else from using a safety device.
Before handling the goods, the crew should be made aware of the numerous on-site safety measures that would safeguard them in the event of an unfortunate situation. The operation of such gadgets should not be tampered with or altered in any manner by the crew. Understanding all safe cargo handling procedures and practices and ensuring that they are followed without exception is another crucial aspect.
Tip 3: Locate shelter positions
When handling goods on an open deck, it's crucial that you be fully aware of your choices for cover in case any cargo falls on you. You should also know where you may wait until the lifted cargo has been deposited on the deck or amidships.
Tip 4: Protecting the Cargo
When cargo comes on deck, it must be secured immediately and must not piggyback with other goods. As soon as it is put in the storage area during cargo handling services, a secure cargo must be secured since a secure cargo is a safe cargo. You don't want to find yourself in a position where some on-board staff were gravely injured due to unsecured cargo since loose items of cargo might prove to be harmful. Another thing to keep in mind is that all goods that isn't in a container need to be secured correctly at all times.
Tip 5: Use Proper Lifting Equipment
Lifting apparatus such as wire ropes, wire rope slings, hooks, forklifts, cranes, etc. are needed for cargo handling services aboard ships. When using such equipment, you must be able to confirm that it has been tested and maintained in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations. More essential, you must be able to utilize this equipment as intended. People working with and near lifting equipment run the risk of losing their lives if it is used improperly.
Tip 6: Avoid crouching down next to a raised load.
If you're standing in a load's route or underneath it at a place where cargo is being handled, you run the risk of getting struck by the load. Because a person was standing below a lifted cargo, there have been several catastrophic mishaps.
For this specific safety factor, there are two sides. In order to safely lift the cargo, the crane operator must first provide a clear route. Then, the on-deck staff must ensure that they are fully aware of the loading path and take care to avoid any approaching goods.
Tip 7: If there are issues, speak with the supervisor.
It is crucial to get in touch with the supervisor if you ever believe that the workplace's safety is being jeopardized in any manner. You can discover anything that you think will have an influence on the safety of the cargo handling process, such as a hatch cover that has come loose or a load that is not correctly positioned on the lifting equipment. It's crucial in these situations that you share your conclusions with the individual in question.
These are just a few of the numerous recommendations that might enhance cargo handling services safety by Focal Shipping. It's crucial that you understand exactly how to handle goods properly aboard ships if you're involved in this procedure. One day, this information might potentially save your life.

The Common Reasons For Warehouse Accidents
Tumblr media
The warehouse has become a dangerous place for you. The effectiveness of warehouse accidents will have a direct impact on the effectiveness of the business. It has become critical to adopt warehouse safety protocols in order to avoid these types of hazards. The following are some of the most prevalent causes of warehouse accidents, as well as some solutions to prevent them.
Accidental fall: Vertical tubes are commonly used in warehouses to store items. These storage units are frequently tall, which may be the cause of a fall. Almost half of all workplace injuries occur at a height of 15 feet or less. It is critical to prevent these types of mishaps by restricting workers from mounting ladders to collect things and other associated mechanisms utilised in the warehouse, such as an automated system or a forklift.
Slips And Trips: A simple slip on the warehouse's moist flooring can cause significant damage. That is why a slip is one of the most common injuries in the warehouse management process. There are several methods for avoiding these types of accidents. Such as making sure your warehouse is well-organized, filling gaps in the flooring, and so on.
Motion: Every year, the most injuries in the warehouse are caused by motion. This involves repeated action and improper lifting of goods. There are several ergonomic methods for preventing this that benefit the workforce and are worth considering. Start with the fundamental warehouse automation procedure.
Poisonous And Hazardous Substances: The poisonous and hazardous commodities, such as corrosive acid, are the second most dangerous items in the warehouse. You must guarantee that your employees are properly equipped for handling these types of items. Gloves, ventilation, a face mask, and other such items are examples. 🚗 ✈️❤️💔🔶 for Zersior my beloved?👀 can be both canon and modern au
🚗 CAR — does your oc have a driver's license? can they drive/operate any automobiles/machinery besides cars?
Gw2 canon not entirely sure you need any license.. but he does know how to ride and handle the typical raptor and jackal-esque mounts, he's not touching that flying shit. He's likely been in a tank a couple of times as well and if it ever came down to it he could figure out how to drive it on the fly but again, not touching that flying shit (airships)
Modern AU he does have a driver's license and knows how to both drive a car and a bike, he has a beat-up car he bought from a used yard but it's well taken care of. With all the odd jobs he takes on he knows how operate other machinery as well like forklifts and so on but that doesn't mean he has a license (tfw your cringe fail boyfriend isn't forklift certified)
✈️ AIRPLANE — does your oc like traveling, or do they consider themselves a more homey person?
He's definitely more of the traveling type, not necessarily because he likes traveling but he's just always on the go and he's accommodating enough that he can temporarily settle anywhere. Both in gw2 canon and modern au he has a little apartment which he goes back to often enough but y'know. Given the chance he could be pretty homey but especially in canon... world to save, necromancers with no self preservation to bodyguard.
❤️ RED HEART — what are three of your oc's positive traits?
I'm always so bad with thesefhsklskdf traits are just a soup of personality I don't know, but uhm. Despite his typical mercenary persona he is very kind and generous and will go out it his way to make people feel at ease
💔 BROKEN HEART — what are three of your oc's negative traits?
He does tend to be... somewhat disingenuous, he's pleasant sure but that doesn't mean he's always expressing how he feels 🌚 typical jokester keeping all that shit close to his chest
He also tends to be really stubborn, if he puts his mind to something he's going to see it through, even to his own determent.
And third uuuuh does killing people count?
🔶 LARGE ORANGE DIAMOND — does your oc know cpr? do they have any other medical expertise?
He does know cpr! He has at least a basic knowledge of emergency procedures to at least stabilize someone until an actual healer comes about and again, has a basic knowledge of patching someone up, he definitely wouldn't call himself a healer (though he's been getting that practice in with Siyvhe smh)

A Quick Guide on Forklift Thorough Examination
If you work in a warehouse or use forklift trucks daily, then you’ll want to read this post! Just like any other type of machinery or vehicle, safety is a number one priority, to keep you and everyone around you safe. Whether you work with forklifts yourself or know someone who operates them, then you should be aware of the dangers that forklifts can cause without the proper duty and care. I have created this blog post to explain the importance of forklift thorough examination and compliance with Health and Safety Executive guidance. Although this is quite a serious topic, I have produced a quick and easy guide, which should hopefully be a nice read.
Forklift thorough examinations are law, that is carried out to reduce the chances of injuries at work caused by forklifts. There are two examination procedures: LOLER 98 and PUWER 98, which should be conducted frequently to ensure your forklifts are safe to use. Many companies perform these examinations, click here.
Tumblr media
Did you know? Over 1,500 injuries are caused by forklifts every year from incorrect handling and defective equipment. This can be reduced if you get your forklifts checked out!
So, what are LOLER 98 and PUWER 98?
LOLER 98 Examinations
LOLER 98 stands for Lifting Operations and Lift Equipment Regulations 1998 and is an examination that MUST be passed for forklifts to operate. It is a mandatory inspection that should be completed every year to ensure the forklift is safe to use. If you lift people, then it should be completed every 6 months or so. It is completed ensure that your lifting equipment is:
Strong and stable for safe usage.
Positioned and installed to reduce risks.
Used safely e.g. operated by competent people and the work is well planned out/organised.
Tumblr media
PUWER 98 Examinations
PUWER 98 covers the mechanical components of your forklift truck, to determine whether is in good and safe condition. This examination stands for the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998, which requires workplaces to properly install, use, inspect, and maintain machinery to ensure safety. Your forklift truck should have no defects or signs of deterioration, and all components including brakes, steering, and lifting mechanisms should be in excellent working condition. PUWER 98 has requirements which your forklift should follow:
The equipment is suitable for the intended use.
Should be in a safe condition and should be installed correctly with no potential deterioration.
It should only be used by competent people who have strong knowledge and training in working a forklift.
It should have installed protective devices and controls e.g. emergency stop devices, visible markings, warning devices, and so on.
Used in accordance with specific requirements
Tumblr media
And that is it! If you operate with forklifts, maybe double check if you have these examinations completed, as they are law after all. Not only that, but you will also be ensuring that yourself and everyone around you are safe, and risk-free from any potential hazards. Even if you don’t work with forklifts, these thorough examinations should be completed on all lifting/warehouse equipment, it is not limited to only forklift trucks. If you would like to find out more information about these examinations or whether your equipment needs them, check out the HSE website.

Fork Hoist Training: Essential Skills for Safe and Effective Operations
Fork hoists, also known as forklifts, are indispensable in industries where material handling and warehouse management are crucial. Effective fork hoist training ensures operators can handle these powerful machines safely, efficiently, and with confidence.
Why Fork Hoist Training Matters
Fork hoist training is essential for several reasons:
Safety Compliance: Operating a fork hoist requires adherence to strict safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries. Training covers topics such as load handling, maneuvering in tight spaces, and recognizing potential hazards, ensuring operators understand and implement safety measures effectively.
Skill Development: Training programs equip operators with the necessary skills to operate different types of fork hoists proficiently. They learn about the specific controls, capacities, and operational requirements of electric, propane, or diesel-powered models, enhancing versatility and competency.
Efficiency and Productivity: Well-trained operators contribute to improved efficiency and productivity in warehouse and logistics operations. They learn optimal techniques for loading, unloading, and stacking materials, minimizing downtime and maximizing operational output.
Equipment Maintenance: Understanding basic maintenance checks and procedures is crucial for prolonging the lifespan of fork hoists.
