a rural gas station in the middle of the night.

at this ungodly hour, the store was empty save for the middle aged man behind the counter flipping through a magazine. natasha makes a bee-line for the coffee machine and puts two large cups to fill up. the hunt had gone smoothly save for a few rather inconsequential hitches, but it was all part of the job. how long has it been, since i've had a restful nights sleep, she thinks, rubbing at her eyes. moving to the aisle with the chips natasha grabs her usual pringles, a few granola bars and a protein bar. she has half a mind to get a peanut butter cup pack when a familiar silver and blue wrapper catches her attention.

natasha stands under the florescent lights staring at the box containing the baby ruth bars. a memory of a different time and a different place engulfs her and threatens to choke her. but before it can, the chime of the door opening pulls her out of her thoughts. @freetoleave says something but in her attempt to push the memories and pain that were threatening to burst out of her, natasha doesn't catch what was said.

"hmm? yeah, i already got the coffee." her chin nudges towards the coffee machine on the other side of the aisle before moving to grab a packet of red vines. as if she'd been caught trying to decide what candy to get and not still reeling from the aftermath of the djin's hallucinations. natasha moves to dumps the snacks at the cash register and motions to the cabinet behind the man. "a pack of reds. and the two coffees."

               "And just what is this great truth you think you've stumbled upon?" As egotistical and power-hungry the new vampire was, the question was asked genuinely, this being something of a first for her. Kasey liked to think she had already got this new unlife thing sorted and wasn't particularly interested in listening to other supernatural perspectives, but this was the first werewolf she'd ever come face to face with, so she wasn't entirely sure she'd ever get this sort of chance again.

               "Was it worth it? Did the ends justify the means?" There was no maliciousness or spitefulness in tone, but genuine wonder if Leah had found the answers she was looking for. She-wolf found herself gently pulling at grass as she sat down in the cool forest floor.

               His own knowledge of hunters was deliberately minimal at best for various reasons, but he knew that interests in celebrity culture was as minimal as his knowledge of them, so he hopefully could get them through this without causing a scene... or maybe take their potential knowledge of him and use it against them to sway things in their favour. He never was as dumb as he pretneded to be, but there was a very specific reason in which he played parts in plans and never brainstormed them himself.

If the situation wasn't what it was and if he wasn't in the faux form that was used to blend in with the human world, he may have playfully barked and nipped at her ankle or flank, always a lover of fun. But now wasn't the time, so he'd remain as serious as possible. "That a challenge? Really think you can take me on?"

she trusts his judgment on that. probably better for both of them to blend in as humans instead of risk getting caught running through the area in their other forms. the hunters would at least pause for a few seconds more upon eyeing two people in a car. leah's no actress but she'll be able to play damsel in distress well enough if it comes to that. hopefully they don't run into whoever's on their way to assist the hunters that are now dead. trigger happy would be an understatement for a lot of them.
